The club was formed about twelve or so years ago, and during the following
years grew into a successful club with thirty plus members. In recent
years the yacht pond in Gorleston suffered with weed problems that got
worse as the seasons passed. This affected membership, as there is no
point in being a member of a club with no usable water. The club was
suspended in February of 2002. towards the end of that summer it was
rumoured that the yacht pond was to be done away with and some other money
making amenity put in its place. An action group was quickly formed and
steps were taken to try to prevent this. A petition was raised, and local
radio and newspapers answered the call. This generated a lot of support
culminating in a meeting between the newly reformed Club and the local
council. In a nutshell it was promised that with our help the yacht pond
would stay and its problems rectified. I must say at this point the
promise has been kept.
The Club as of November 2004 now has forty plus members and is going
strong. We meet on the Second Monday of the Month, at the Kings Head
Public House in Belton a large village about 2 miles from Gorleston. The
Kings Head give us free use of their large function room.
We sail on the yacht pond on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday
mornings through the summer season.
Weather permitting we also sail on Sunday mornings out of season.
Why not come and give us a look, we are a friendly bunch we hardly ever
bite.
