Hi Martin,
STOP PRESS!!!!!!!!!
After the catastrophic failure of a motor bearing the Talus has had to go
back into the workshop for a set of new motors! This has allowed me to
upgrade the drive system with heavier duty motor/gearbox combinations and
change the operating voltage from 24v to 12v.

The fitting
of these new motors needed extensive internal surgery to the body of the
Talus but the final installation is a better fit and layout than the
original system as there is no need for belt drives with the integral
gearboxes.

The Talus is now finished and work has started on the fitting out of the
wheelhouse of the Mersey itself and pictures will be sent as the work
progresses.
.....
this was the original motor layout,

As you can
see in this enlarged picture the bottom motor has twisted out of alignment
(cause unknown!!) and this has made the shaft bearing at the drive end
break up and wipe out the motor!!
The surgery involved the removal of the drive shaft supports shown in the
following picture and because these were fitted at the beginning of the
build they had to be destroyed to get them out!!
