Hi there, more fittings from
the Mersey build madhouse!!!!! These first two pictures are of the fittings that hold the quarter chains that are used to hold the lifeboat onto its carriage. In the first picture the method of construction can be seen. Unlike the original fittings these will be operated remotely NOT hit with a 4lb club hammer to release them!!! The second picture shows the fittings ready for fastening to the deck. They will be operated by bowden cables pushing the hook part up to release the chains and free the boat from its carriage. The release will be an electric door lock actuator from a car ( scrapyard again!! ) to save on the cost of a high power servo ( yorkshire thrift again!! ). ![]() ![]() The stern quarter mooring bollards have also been made and fitted also the towing gobeye is now in place at the stern. ![]() The silver paint that I use is a water based acrylic paint(DecoArt Dazzling Metallics - Shimmering Silver) and then I use either a matt/gloss Humbrol / Revel varnish on top to prevent rubbing. Also I make sure the plastic is sanded to ensure a good key for the paint. I also use a flat brush( widest practical size for the fitting involved) to apply the paint not round ones as brush marks are reduced this way.
My trip to Scarborough
on Thursday was a great day out and I now have the rest of the
information for the navigators position that I was missing!! I also took
the Talus with me and Dave, the station mechanic, was pleased with the
result!!
