Hi Martin, more from the
Mersey Madhouse!!!!
Question:
What have a Hornby OO gauge coupling and a cable clip got to do with
building my Mersey??

Answer:
See the following pictures!!!!
If you take the coupling and
carve it about a bit, then build a carrier box for it, you have the
locking clip for the deck hatches!!
![]()
This is positioned so that
when the hatches are opened they can be locked to prevent the lid
falling down. The assister springs are wound from silver plated
jewellrey wire.

The cable clips are trimmed
to shape, drilled to take 3mm bolts and become the locking handles on
the hatches as shown in this next picture.

This last picture shows the
locks in place, the left lock is in the open position, the right lock
shows the locked position.

All that remains to do with
the hatches is to paint them!!

Here are some further
pictures of the hatches now that they have been painted and fitted. You
can also see the capstan in position and its footswitch behind the port
anchor.

This last one is a close up
of the notice board that is placed on the Lifeboat when it is in the
Boathouse to keep the public off the boat!!

I have spent the day
cutting and filing steel plate and brazing the parts together in this
heat !!!! Not a good job for a hot sunny day!!
The result of this labour
has been the recovery strop locking system, which works just like the
actual system on the boat.

This shot shows the locking
clip in place with the strops ready to be locked down.

Finally here is the strop
locking system "locked down " until the boat is ready for recovery.

Next job will be the folding
aerials on the wheelhouse roof, when I've worked out how to make the
"figure of eight" folding hinge system that they all use!!
