For some time I have been looking at a small reverse gear box for a single cylinder engine I have that I want to put in a mini vap.they have now brought out a mixer that looks handy as it would probably enable you to do what the cheddar unit did and allow you to use one channel to mix two servos, I think they sell it on its own without the gearbox.

Hi HS93

One of the boys down at Llanberis has a model steam boat (with electric motor) that has a mechanical mixer.
I don't know if it will do what you want, but it was a great bit of kit. It also made a wonderfull 'clickety clack' sound that suited the model.

Try contacting Stavros by PM to see if he can put you in touch with the owner.

This mixer was for a 'Kitchen' Rudder. This would give you reverse for a single cylinder steam engine.

Hi Tiger the mixer is for a steam plant not a sound unit, its to alter the timing on the likes of a slide valve engine and cotrole the steam with one channel. with the likes of a Proteus or Gemini or one of the newer engines, Cheddar made a unit but they are no longer available, its nothing to do with sound units .  the sound from the steam plant is enough.

On the kitchen rudder I was going to use one in fact I made one for the boat then I spotted the gearbox some time ago and decided to go down that route (prob because its more things to play with) but the box works well in cars you can go from forward to reverse without lifting off, its only since they put a bigger engine in the buggy that they have put a delay on it via the mixer as the new engine prob puts out about 3 or 4 bhp , so the steam engine I have will not do any damage as its about 1-50 th of the power and about 40.000 rpm less.

I am not talking about a sound unit. I am talking about a mechanical mixer with lots of push rods, to control a kitchen rudder (as I believe single cylinders are hard to reverse). This mixer is something you can fabricate yourself easily.
It just happens to be mechanically noisy.

Even if you do not plan to use a kithen rudder, there may be other versions of mechanical mixers that the gentleman can point you towards.

Ok right with you talking about  ""a wonderfull 'clickety clack' sound that suited the model"" I thought you where on about a sound unit.  the mechanical mixer is no problem I have made one already in fact some people just use a Du Bro tail mixer you can pop it on top of a servo, the initial post was making people aware that there is a mixer available that will do a similar job as the old cheddar unit and is sold as an accessory to the gearbox. shown next to the gear box in picture.
