Hi All .............. And a Fairey Huntsman Question
« on: September 29, 2008, 11:34:28 pm »

Hi all,

I've just joined your group. :)

I built a Fairey Huntsman by President and completed the build back in 96.
I installed an SC 91 engine and thats where I stopped!
I know absolutely nowt about IC engines so now that I've decided to finish it and get it on the water, 12 years later! I think I'm going to sell the IC and plonk a brushless motor in there.
I know more about electrics plus it's a tad friendlier, especially nowadays.

Could someone recommend a good brushless system for me?
It's the 47" wooden hulled one so needs a bit of oomph.
Guess I can use the water scoop for the cooling if needed.

I have the radio gear, hopefully the batteries will be ok after this many years,
It's a 40mhz Digi Fleet (Fleet control systems) have not checked to see if there still going.

So I need:
ESC
Brushless Motor
Lipos or NiMH
Cooling jacket if needed

I've forgotten a lot from my research back then so your help and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, if you could suggest a suitable prop as well.

I've a few more questions but don't want to bore you all with my first post!!

It will be great to give it it's maiden voyage after all this time. :)

Cheers!
Steve.

Steve,

Sorry to say that Fleet Control Systems went out of business some years ago. There was an attempt by another firm to take on the business but that never materialised.

Bits of their kit come up on Ebay from time to time.

I too have a set of their RC gear and like it very much.

Re Brushless , check with "Fireboat"  on this site as he ran his fireboat with one and very nice it was to.  (some pics and a video on the Fireboat Funday thread)

Even if the battery's have gone it would be easy enough to find a replacement from somewhere like modelpower.

Yes fleet is gone now.

There is a good choice of radios out there and various frequencies (for Land)

Looks like you should buy the whole package of brushless gear bats, motor, esc etc, etc.

Check this link for a little read up for a reference. Once there trawl round the site as there is more write ups on brushless items

I wasn't a fan of SC engines when I was flying model planes.

Thanks for the reply's guys  :)

Shame about Fleet, but the good news is that the batteries are good or so it seems!

I've spoken to Westbourne Model Centre and the guy there recommended a J.Perkins C50 out runner and the Robbie Roxio 960 ESC.
Apparently he's supplied a few for this very boat, one guy swinging a 65mm prop with it!
I don't think I'll need it that big 50-55mm maybe?
Anyhow, they can supply all to do the job but I will ask "Fireboat" a few questions before I go ahead thank you 'The long Build'

I would like to know if my Fleet XP/FM  .. RX will be ok to input to the ESC or even my Fleet TX for that matter because I'm not sure how to get reverse, I would have to switch it somehow I guess.

Or do you think its best to sell this on and buy new Radio gear??

I'll be selling the never run or had fuel near it ( absolutely no corrosion and turns smoothly ) OS 91 also if anyones interested.

I'll get some pics up for you when I get a chance.
