last note on PC: it is just another way of making laws for making law's sake.

Right. Good.
We all done now?

What did you get or more rightly, buy yourselves for Christmas presents?
And what are you hoping to build or finish off in 2009?

Me first:
Graupner Pegasus.
Bismarck made of sticks, brass and swearing.
Sheerline Akula.
... and they should be finished before Spring!

In Germany you can't have swastikas on your model boats! That is hearsay though. Shame really, if it had and you are representing the said vessel as an accurate model, then it should be so...

from two thick bars, draw a thin line, OR put a white sticker over the actual swastika, either over ALL of it, or just where the centre of the cross is.  best option would be a round spot made from white tape

             ...Hi Guys...

This is really starting to Pi&& Me @ff in a serious way...

"You cant do this or you or you cant say that" in case it might  upset the Jews or  Muslims or some other religious or national creed...

My stance is this...

If they dont like the way We Are & Act in Our Country, Then they can Sodd Off Back to their Own Country...

Do you think these people  worry about upsetting any other race or creed in their own country ....I Dont Think So...

A recent example of this took place recently involving a Glasgow Model Boat Club...
The Club in this case were trying to get their Clubhouse smartened up by the Local Council prior to a rather large model boat event taking place at their venue...
The Council were reluctant to carry out the work due to costs, But when the Council were informed that Someone had painted "Swastikas" on the walls of their Clubhouse, A  complete paint job was carried out within 48 hours...
The Council,s statement was...We had to remove the Graffiti before it upset certain sects...What About The Graffitti upsetting the Local Residents...But then again we dont matter as much as other certain groups...

...Best Regards...Norry...

Hi all not wanting to stir up any trouble and being careful how i word this, as i don't want nor intend to offend anyone, but,
am i the only person that has noticed when broadcast on TV Guy Gibson's dog's name is now not mentioned at all, I.E. cut out.

This not true, when the "Dam Busters" was remastered last year and shown in cinemas and TV the name of the dog was still there and  it was also used as the code word for a busted dam...

The moderation is hugely important.  This is a definate "better safe than sorry" scenario.  This is a model boats forum.  The last place you would expect to see an argument about PC correctness.  Im sure most would agree the forum is far more important than being allowed to say words which alot of people may find offensive.

Come on this is models boats.........Its supposed to be fun.  Not serious  :-)

Back again, just had me dinner! I know I shouldn't eat this late by my dietician was cooking!  {-)

Do you remember when a couple of years ago I got so annoyed/upset at another topic like this and I took the whole
forum down for a couple of days to regroup myself?   But I'm older, wiser.... and a little tubbier now.... and do you
know what really important? Well cooked baked potatoes, oven backed chicken that's not dried out, breaded garlic
mushrooms that don't make your eyes water and value brand coleslaw that doesn't taste cheap...... that and free speech.

I must admit I do like to hear people opinions and reasoning's, it's most enlightening. I guess we all have our own 'blue
touch paper', and topic like this help vent our spleen, maybe because we feel powerless in a crazy world.... We have
created a world where banks have no money, non democratic democracies, Israel and Palestine killing each other and
no really cares, bottled water that cost more than petrol, recycling that goes into landfill, police that are scared of teenagers,
increasing carbon footprints as we drive our cars, economic doom, that Burke winning X factor and the vote debacle on Strictly
come dancing! But what can I do?!? I know, I'll have a rant on Mayhem! Well glad to be of service…. but that's all it is a rant,
pub talk, personal opinions, spleen venting, frustration, conversation, gossip, chitchat.

Anyone want to talk model boats yet?  :-)

This has now gone on far enough.
So far it has cost the Forum a member and for what?
So a few can get on their hobby horse and express their "freedom of speech"

This was Martins recent post:

What about if I personally find that word offensive.... even within context?

We can't change history, the dog was called N****, ( I guess because originally the word in Latin means "black"),
we can't change that, but that name now has a whole new set of connotations in the current world.

Weather you like it or not, Model Boat Mayhem is a model boat forum FIRST and yes there is lots of off topic banter
on here which all adds to life rich tapestry...... but this is a closely monitored forum, which 99% of member agree is
necessary.  We never going to achieve 100% moderation satisfaction because we're all different, so if I or the other
moderators say enough is enough then that's it. We try, if fact go out of our way to be as accommodating as possible
but even we have to be "politically correct" some times........ if you don't like it, leave the forum but before you do,
remember, we're here to talk model boats not "political correctness in the 21st century!"

"Free speech and expressions of personal opinions on this forum.

This Forum provides an opportunity to express opinions on a whole range of topics, not just model boating.
However,Martin (as the Site Owner and the one person who must ultimately carry the can for everything
that goes on in the Forum)and the Moderators he has appointed, are determined to ensure that all opinions
are expressed reasonably.

The Forum does not offer the right of uninhibited, free speech.

.....Lets play nicely everyone..... and Martin won't go to jail!"

Martin - Mayhem.

Just to make it clear:"The Forum does not offer the right of uninhibited, free speech."

I am locking this topic now and anyone starting up a similar one will have it deleted WITHOUT WARNING.

The Dambusters dog N****r will be renamed Digger for a modern remake of the iconic film to avoid offending American viewers, it has emerged.

Script writer Stephen Fry, 53, has confirmed that pilot Guy Gibson's faithful black Labrador will be renamed for the forthcoming Peter Jackson movie.

In the original 1955 film Gibson's dog's name was spoken 12 times as a code word to report successful dam breaches to RAF Bomber Command.

Offensive: Actor Richard Todd as Wing Commander Guy Gibson and his dog N*gger in the classic film, The Dambusters

But Fry, who is writing the script for the long-awaited remake, has revealed he will now be renamed Digger to avoid offending American viewers.

He said: 'There is no question in America that you could ever have a dog called the N-word.

'It's no good saying that it is the Latin word for black or that it didn't have the meaning that it does now - you just can't go back, which is unfortunate.

'You can go to RAF Scampton and see the dog's grave and there he is with his name, and it's an important part of the film.

'The name of the dog was a code word to show that the dam had been successfully breached.

'You just can't go back': Stephen Fry,  is writing the script for the remake of The Dambusters, which Peter Jackson, will direct

'In the film, you're constantly hearing 'n-word, n-word, n-word, hurray' and Barnes Wallis is punching the air.

'But obviously that's not going to happen now. So Digger seems okay, I reckon.'

The iconic 1955 film tells the story of British Second World War scientists who developed a bouncing bomb as a means of attacking Germany's dams.

During the film a special squadron of Lancaster bombers, 617 Squadron, is formed and trained by Wing Commander Guy Gibson.

His black Labrador dog N*gger is present throughout the film and his name repeatedly used as a code word to report successful breaches of dams.

But when Peter Jackson began planning a remake of the historic film, which has been scripted by Fry, the team agreed to rename him Digger.

N*gger died in a car accident on the morning of the Dambusters raid on 16 May 1943 and is buried at the squadron's home of RAF Scampton, Lincs.

The move has attracted criticism from historians and aviation enthusiasts who have revealed they are 'unhappy' with the alteration.

Mervyn Hallam, curator of RAF Scampton museum, today slammed the change and accused Fry of trying to 'rewrite history'.

Guy Gibson, centre, with the air crews who took part in the raid on Cologne. He won the Victoria Cross for his bravery during the Dambusters raid

He said: 'It's not a problem with coloured people it's the people in power creating the problem. Sod their political correctness and sod human rights.

'They should keep the dog's name the same - it's ridiculous that they are trying to rewrite history. His grave is still here with his name on it.

'What they are trying to do is dishonouring N*gger and dishonouring the brave men who flew that mission.

'We have over 9,000 visitors a year at RAF Scampton and many of them are not native to England but none of them are offended.

'N*gger is the name of the dog and that shouldn't be interfered with. In the context of the time and the film it's not a racist name.'

Jim Shortland, a historian who specialises in the Dambusters, added: 'I'm unhappy with the change because it's sacrificing historical accuracy for political correctness, in

particular for the American market.

'If someone was offended by Guy Gibson's name you wouldn't go around calling him Richard Todd.

'One wonders what else the film might get wrong. Once you know something is incorrect, you're going to be suspicious.'

But Phil Bonner, spokesman for Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire, admitted the name of the dog is 'very emotive'.

He said: 'The name of the dog is very emotive for many people and in some respects it's a reflection of the changes that have happened across the generations.

'The whole core of the film is about the bravery of the people who flew from Lincolnshire on a very daring raid and it's important that this aspect of the film is not watered

down.'
