futaba channel conv
« on: April 20, 2009, 10:57:54 pm »

i am hoping that one of you clever bods out there may have done this

i have a futaba 6exp;- 6 cannel tx what i wanna do is convert channel 5 or 6 switch switch to a rotary knob type controller with a cenral off position,i know that some older tx had rotary knobs (i realise this will invalidate any warranty), i am fairly competent at soldering/electrics, all iwant to know is it possible ie is the wiring the same 2/3 wires or should i just give it up now!!!!!!! are the parts readily available?

                  hope you can help, penfold.

I've done it to several radios inc Futaba F14 and skysport not the 6exp.
The older Futaba radios had an NE5044 analog encoder so all channels could be rotary or slider.
With the move to processors it depends on what the channel can be programmed to accept.
Do you know what the encoder chip is?

Looks like it has a processor in which case it is dependant on whether the channel will accept 3 position switch.

The NE5044 on the older radios is like the picture only with 16 pins.
The number was printed on it.

When I spoke to the Service Engineer at Ripmax-Futaba about this (about 18 months ago), he told me that it was not possible to convert these channels to proportional. However, there is a member of this forum who has discovered a method of hacking into the software and re-allocating the channels and switches. I have no other information.
