Soft solder or silver solder?
« on: August 16, 2009, 08:30:59 pm »

Hello everybody!

I have acquired a whistle that i want to connect to a Proteus boiler. To connect it to the boiler i need to solder two nipples on a copper tubing. Will soft soldering be god enough for this or do I need to use silver soldering?

Regards

It needs to be silver soldered, they are a powerfull boiler with a superheater.

Take off is from the dome on top of the boiler, not the superheater.

As Proteus has said, it requires silver soldering, no arguments about it.

The temperatures and pressures used in these boilers require it.

No doubt about it, silver solder for all boiler mountings and remote fittings.  It would only take a few operations of the whistle before the thing came flying off and ended up goodness knows where.

You have to admit though, it would make one hell of an amusing noise as it flew off ;) %)
