I took a few driving lessons in a Riley 1500 (rally tuned) driving instructors car

95 mph in third on the new Laceby by-pass (Netley will know) then I joined up

The army taught me to drive in a 3 ton Bedford (bruised elbow when gear changing - compulsory)
then they gave me a mini to shuttle preggy wives to the pre-natal classes.
I had to ask one of the passengers for her tights when the fan belt broke

got us back to base though!
Must have been too sexy for that job, so they trained me on a Stalwart HMLC.
When I got out, I bought Mum's mini and thrashed the daylights out of it. Never let me down.
Dad had a wierd range of cars, all of which I drove.
The best was an MG Sports saloon (not the Magnette) with built-in hydraulic jacks ...

Slab sided HA Viva which was all over the road in a 5mph crosswind

Midwife special Anglia with trafficators (bang the side pillar and it would eventually pop up after the junction)

also had vacuum wipers, slowed to nothing as you tried to pass a lorry chucking out spray

I also had
Renault R8, the back end didn't 'step' out - it leapt! = 360 deg turns

Austin A40, drivers floor rusted away but came in handy as the brakes were so bad, you could put your foot through and jam it on the wheel!
MG midget, batteries held in with rope as trays rusted away. Little slidey windows you could open to wave to other MG owners

The list goes on - but didn't we drive some carp

good job there wasn't much traffic in those days.
Happy days
Danny
