Hi Again
I have finished spraying my schooner, the line between colours has finished very well, there is some very small bleed from the red and won't noticable when the water line covers it, I have read somewhere where you can use something called pinstripe tape rather than painting a waterline, if I can do this I intend to lacquer the whole boat.
Has anyone used a tape for a waterline, and if so where can I purchase it, have also added some photos to keep you up todate with my build,first the boat still covered after spraying from fore and then aft,




next is the false wood which was going to be made of lead, but now carries the fin locked in by a brass wheel seen in the foreground,lead will be attached to the fin when I find out how much I will need
The last shows the the boat with the paper taken off being allowed to thoroughly dry

Pretty much every car accessory shop.  Upside - easy.  Downside, it has a finite thickness and, being a set width, you have a heck of a time getting it to look right under a sloping rounded stern.

The car stuff is thicker than the modelling variety which is hardly distinguishable from a coat of paint but Malcolm is right that it doesn't suit all types of model.

sorry guys have been away again, thanks for your replies, have been to Antics Model shop and purchased Trimline,it is self adhesive but if you dont like it, it will come off quite easily, you do need to laqure over it to finish off, will see how it looks if not happy will take it off and tape up and spray

I generally varnish the hull after affixing the tape - with mat or silk as appropriate. This helps to blend the tape in the with the paint.

Yes it will come off quite easily at first - but not when the adhesive has cured - a day or two. It doesn't actually need to be varnished over either although many people will do this on the belt and braces principle.
