Umm that's a bit of an open ended question.

Boiler is 290mm long x 90mm wide x 120mm high and weighs 2.6kgs
Engine has a 10mm bore x 12mm stroke.

The complete plant would have cost £475 c/w water pump back in around 2000.

At the time it was being made by Mike Legg up in Warwickshire, he retired and sold up in about 2001 / 2 as I recall and the whole thing passed to Tony Green.

Unfortunately these plants are no longer made.

                       Ebay     http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/model-steam-engine-boiler-for-boat-radio-control-snipe-/170563137060?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item27b65aee24

Yes, I belive that's the reason for Harinell's question.
Went for £370 BNIB..., IMHO far too cheap compared to used Cheddar puffin setups going for around 500.

Unfortuantly did the seller refuse to ship within EU so no bids from my side.
(Got UK address & travel frequently but still cumbersome & costly to arrange UK pickup)

The SVS is a lovely little plant, I have one of the early models, but it is not the equivalent of the Cheddar Puffin. The Snipe was put together to rival the Pintail and was about as big in bore / stroke as the design would allow.

I actually think £370 is a lot of money, but it is a rare plant, so maybe that's the reason for the price.

Regardless, I'm sure the new owner will enjoy owning and using it.

if you have a look on  http://www.kingstonmouldings.com/newsletter.htm  Robin has always been a fan of them, and there are a few pictured in boats so you will get an idea of what sort of boat you can use them in.

Thanks Peter, haven't seen that page before.

Robin suggest the Snipe is equal to the Puffin or Pelican in power, so did a friend of mine.
In my friends humble view, it also superseeds the quality of the Puffin.

I never had the opportunity to see an SVS myself, hence I was very interested in this one.
(I got a Cheddar and is very happy with the quality, so no intention to throw any torch here....)

Having looked up all my old brochures, the Puffin and Snipe do have pretty much the same swept volume. However, where as the Puffin will happily work at 40 to 45 psi, the Snipe can only take 35 psi max and the smaller engines (like mine) which have the same 12mm stroke, but an 8mm bore, are really designed to run at 20 psi.

As both manufacturers are long out of business, the comparison is somewhat of a mute point, they are both delightful engines to own and run and if I can get my finger out... then I will be able to get my SVS out on the water courtesy of a Mountfleet River Queen I was bought last year for Christmas.

Does anyone else here own an SVS plant? It would be nice to find out if there are more about.

That Snipe engine is indeed comparable to the Cheddar Pintail, but the pump is a nice addition. I'd like to read more about its performance or see a video.
However, I am quite surprised at the high price.

the SVS units could never seemed to make as much steam as a cheddar plants I think because of the heat source for the the boiler, I know which one I would have in a race and it would not start with an S

the pump will slow it down a bit.

To be honest Tom, I don't think you missed a bargain.

SVS plants are very nice and the engine is a delightfully engineered item, but as Peter has said, the Cheddar engines are less fiddly and very robust, there is also a cottage industry of spare parts suppliers, as well as Stuart engineering (who still make the Puffin and Pintail).

Good luck in your search.

The 8 and 10 mm engines are still made , by Tony Green Steam Models. I have just bought a 10 mm one, a nice well made little engine.
