Graupner Commodore
« on: November 27, 2010, 09:12:28 am »

just added a Graupner Commodore from the 60's to my collection of 60's "Vintage"? models, its one i always wanted when i was young but couldn't even think of owning due to its then high price

does anbody remember what voltage the standard twin motors are?  i think it was 6volt but cant find any reference.

its twin motor, twin screw, but single small rudder.. i dont think its going to turn too well

whats the general consensus on best direction of rotation of the twin screws?

port... anti-clockwie   stbd.. clockwise  viewed from the stern or the opposite rotation?

thanks

You are right, the original engines are 6V. I bought mine at about 1966. I still have it but it never was on water with RC activated. At the time I bought it, the boat was NOT expensive, but the neccessary RC equipment was it. The boat costed about 60 German Marks, the small parts set, engines, accus, colors etc were about another 60 Marks. A usefull RC-set would have a much higher price well above 1000 Marks, I did not have that money than.

Right now the boat is ready to go to sea, some years ago I bought a cheap RC Control set and a friend put it all together last month. Unfortunately my RC is crap, so I had to buy a better one from Graupner called Hott mx-12. I will switch to this soon. After all the boat has a real chance of getting to its destiny after just 46 years.

By the way, your boat has a minor fault. the fog horn belongs on top of the lower roof, just in front of the middle window. Otherwise it looks like the original idea of the boat. Mine did never have the underwater color, it was grren but now I switched all visible decor lines to bright red. I will use a 6V Pb-Accu with it, though I also have NiMH powerpacks.

I will take pictures of it and put them in here, when I have the time for it.

Very interesting, I remember the model too, all Graupner gear is expensive, most of their kits are sold and then you need many extras to finish the model. I don't want to be pedantic but electric power is a motor, not an engine. Engines are steam or IC which are also wrongly called motors.Just thought I would mention that.

Its interesting that a thread about this model has started. Two weeks ago i brought at Pitsea market a complete unstarted kit of this model for £30. The Marx motors are priced at 4.5 DM each.I knew it was an old model but not that old. Thanks for the infro. The instructions are mainly German. John.

If the motors were only 4,50 DMs then it is a seriously old kit!Last DM/pound exchange before we were lumbered with the Teuro was 2,38, work it out yourself, at the age of the kit the Exchange Rate was quite likely in the 4,50 to 5,00 DMs to the pound. Happy Days!!!
