Armidale Class Patrol Boat - HMAS Maryborough - Build
« on: May 10, 2011, 10:29:56 am »

Well thanks to Steve, HMAS Maryborough ACPB 95, is underway.  Received the 1/50 Hull today from Steve, and now comes the work to get her to vCommissioning.

http://www.navy.gov.au/HMAS_Maryborough

I would dearly love to hear what the other 1/50 boats have as running gear and propulsion, as these would be best installed before any deck etc are commenced.  I have been a fan of the Johnson geared units, but need to get this one right.

Good idea to get it right, right from the start.  {-)
I had hoped to use the JP 480 motors that I had in stock, but they draw over 7 amps even with small props.   John Darke is getting me a couple of gearboxes which hopefully will do the trick but it is an expensive way to go.
He recommends his 600 size motors so give him a call.

By the way, Maryborough is only your tentative name on the 'Names List'
Better make it permanent in case someone else grabs it. %%

OK I give up, but don't let Derek know.

Hoping to start on my Armidale if I can get over my present health problems.

I've had Steve's 1 / 72 hull sitting on the bench for months.

Looking forward to this build.  :-))

Hi Sean
Have a look at the build that Peter Finniss did and there is plenty of info and ideas how to put it together.  Just search Armidale on this site and you should find it. Dont worry if you dont get the shafts and stuff in first cause you will just waste time, I havent got motors in mine yet but most of the structure is being built. it just sits there at the moment so when the motors happen most of it will be ready to go.

 Have fun

OK  {-) & DickyD says ........."I give up, but don't let Derek know"

Richard..... {:-{...I have read & am aware of your ambulance chasing...however I was a little disappointed that some of you colleagues didn't take a few wooden planks & glue to you at your hospital bed as therapy   {-)

I am certainly interested & await your build of  HMAS Maryborough and as most dedicated Mayhem members will expect it to be a usual master class construction by you  :-))

With respect to you being admitted as an Honorary Aussie or OZ national ...the answer is a clear & simple NO  <*< >>:-( if you don't have convicted convict blood from your ye Olde Bailey.. <*< ...you are still a POM.....

RaaArtyGunner....before you go offering & bestowing Honorary Aussie or OZ national  awards.....better with your mate "Juliea PM of OZ" as she has just stated she is sick of Boat People  :o & all intended new arrival boat people must spend time in a south eastern pacific island for a few years

Do you really think that  DickyD would like this ??????? .....Derek

Hey RaaArtgunner

You are correct, if it wasnt for boat people we wouldnt have the current fleet of Armidales. (boarder protection) 4 based in Cairns and 10 based in Darwin.  I did 20 years in the navy and served 16 years on Fremantles doing the same thing. Government needs a big wake up call.

Giday Glen,

Mate I can recall being in Cairns, a few years ago, when the base was just the wharf and tin shed and the "Attack" class were the then boats catching all the illegal Fishing boats which were moored in the local river and burnt at regular intervals.
