Hello Fellow Model Boaters,
after a long absence from the pastime model boat building of my childhood days and youth I now wish to resume this hobby.
Though I always have been maintaining an at least spiritual attachment to shipping, shipbuilding, all things maritime, as well as collecting and hoarding of books, plans and virtually any footage of the subject
I over the years unfortunately lost in the wake of removals most the works of my model yard.
Now, as proud owner of a house and estate of my own, I have very much improved building capacities as compared to the many restrictions imposed by the dwelling situation in small rental flats.
On the flip side of the coin my model making budget now seems to be under much higher pressure owe to the obligations of mortgage rates and higher maintenance costs altogether.
But as I intend to build from scratch (as I did in my early years) I think that I have a good control over the costs and the pace of advances.
I am German and live in the county of Brandenburg some 60 km from Berlin, where I used to live before and where still my place of work is.
In my profession as a Unix sysadmin I am sitting almost every day in front of a computer, why I need to do something of a more practical an manual nature as a balance in my leisure.
My main interest in ships and model boats lies within seagoing merchant vessel, especially of the period late 1960s to early 1980s (when they still looked like ships

)
I'm looking forward to finding new fellow model boaters here to have vivid exchanges over our common hobby.
Regards
Ralph
