Hi there, I've used these LED covers from Maplins the 5mm ones suit 1/12 scale quite well. Available in clear, green, red and yellow. You need to order the bases too unless you cut a small piece of suitable tube to mount them in. Can of course be used with LED's or ordinary grain of wheat bulbs. Dave.  :-))

I always use 3mm leds from the component shop, sorry to say but 5mm are to big, but its always your choice.

There seems to be a bias towards LED,s because of there lifespan but in reality the light given off is to bright for a port or starboard navigation light, normally nav lights are slightly duller...

A couple of tricks ive used in the past is to either use a "higher" resistance inline with the led, or if using the coloured led covers , as suggested above, use a yellow or amber led, then is diffuses the ligth emitted, giving it a more, "mellow" colour effect.

Hi Dave the Component Shop sells LED's in different sizes, they are not expensive & they sell the resistors & holders for the LED's for peanuts. Their service & shipping are first class too. Mick B.

look at warm white leds rather than the blue white types too,

the warm white replesents filament lamps  more than the blueish white LED light- again just my opinion.....

as with our full sized counterparts you will need to use a green led for the starboard  lamp even behind the green diffuser ,

Hi Guy, that is a bit of good advice I did not know about the colour, as the saying goes, never too old to learn. I actually bought some without any real idea where to use them.(I do now) Mick B.
