Binding Orange RX to DX8 help sailing boat
« on: October 13, 2011, 06:47:40 pm »

Rite ive taken the plunge and moved to 2.4GHz

Im trying to bind the Orange RX recievers ive bought to my DX8.

Problem is the bind plug also appears to be where the battery connects and being that its going into a sailing boat their is no power through the throttle because its just connected to a servo to pull the sails in.

Bit stumped, I knew all the components will work together just no sure how to bind them as the reciever doesent have a power source

Plug the bind plug into the battery/bind on the RX and plug the battery into any other port in the RX. When bound unplug the bind plug and plug the battery into the batteery port.

you can just leave the battery plugged in the spare plug so the bind plug is free.

wondering why you have bought a very nice and expensive DX8 and opted for a cheap Chinese tat receiver I would not even consider one in my boats but maybe that's just me  %)

I take it that you haven't got any Orange Rxs, or you wouldn't describe them as 'cheap Chinese tat' >:-o  AFAIK, they've got a better record than Spektrum on Rx reliability :P

Oh, and I'm quite happy to put them in nearly *a grands worth of Heli :-))

Thanks for all the replies.

Got it figured all out now and working now. Thought id rather ask the question than make a mistake and fry something.

Was recomended the Orange RX's by everyone at my club who are using them apart from one person I think who is propper spectrum marine in his racing boats.

For the cost of 1 Spektrum Marine RX ive put Orange RX's in everyone of my boats and got each one programmed and set up individually in the transmitter.

The DX8 is a very nice piece of kit and whilst most would consider it over kill , for the hydrofoils im designing which will behave and be controlled far more like planes than boats it should be ideal.

The only issue I have is that you can only have a picture of a boat or a helli on the screen when id really like a boat :)

I too can vouch for the quality of the Orange receivers  :-))

I now have 21 Orange receivers, 2 x Spektrum receivers and 1 x the Marine Spektrum receiver which costs £50. This expensive receiver performs no better than the Orange ones which I buy from HobbyKing at £4 a time including P & P......you have to buy 7 at a time though to get maximum discount and postage  :-)

I also have an Esky 2.4ghz system with over 20 receivers, but these cost £16 a time, and excellent as they are, I am selling the system off bit by bit and buying Orange for the Spektrum.

I also got rid of all my 27meg stuff and also my Planet T5 gear with receivers, ALSO my Radiolink system and receivers....the only crystal set I have left is a Futaba computer 40mhz for my Submarine.

I wouldn't sell all my gear if I weren't totally confident in the Orange range....cheapies they are NOT, only cheap in price  :-))

Hi evryone,

I too can strongly recommend the Orange DSM compatable receivers.      I have 10 of them now as purchased from HobbyKing at well under £5 each including P&P - and over a year in many different marine models they have never let me down.      They are easy to bind to my Spectrum DX5E transmitter and I gave up range-checking after 250 yards at ground level.      In short they seem evey bit as good as the Spectrum original receiver at one-seventh of the price!

Think some of the cloned gear can be a bit of a crap shoot quality control wise. I've been unlucky with the Orange RX I got- it keeps losing its binding with my TX. So it'll be on its way back to China on Monday. May chance my luck with another, as these RX's seem to be well regarded, or perhaps just opt for another Corona RX, as I've had good service from those and the difference in price is neither here nor there.

I was a devoted Futaba user until the 2.4 debate started.  My opinion, and it is only my opinion, was that the Futaba Fasst system, irrespective of how good it is/was, would go the way of Betamax video so opted for the Spektrum system.  I put this in all my helicopters and initially my Fairwind Yacht.  Since discovering the wonders of Hobbyking, I have purchased all sorts of electronics from them with no problem and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone for any application.  Incidentally and without checking, I believe HK to advertise the Orange RXs  as Spektrum Compatible and NOT as Spektrum Clones. :-)
