More TRV1A questions
« on: July 15, 2012, 08:32:27 pm »

Good evening , I have just ordered a TRV1A from Macc's Models. Now, I need to operate the reversing lever with a servo, and, having browsed this section at some length, have not come up with a complete answer, I have seen several pictures showing methods using bellcranks, a disk with a slot in and what appears to be a servo directly linked to the reverser with just one control rod. none of these are very clear. What is the best way to go about this, and does anyone have any photos of their set up? I will also need a throttle/regulator valve, I thought RDG tools supplied one but I cannot find it on their website, are there any other suppliers of this item? Finally, for now at least, I have downloaded the instruction book and everything seems to be straight forward enough, are there any traps to avoid during construction?
Many thanks in anticipation,
Nick.

Peter, go to Clevedon Steam http://www.clevedonsteam.co.uk/ for your throttle. They do a lubricator and throttle all in one and both left hand and right hand versions as you can assemble the TVR1A with the steam inlet on either side to suit your installation. If you dont want the combined unit the also do a throttle valve on its own. They do not appear on the website but if you email Jerry I am sure he will send you pictures. Cheers, Ian

Hi there, I have emailed Clevedon Steam but, unfortunately, he doesn't make them any more as he was not happy with them, so unavailable until he has come up with a better design <:( <:( <:(
Many thanks,
Nick :-)) :-)) :-))

Bruce Engineering which is part of Polly Model Engineering at www.pollymodelengineering.co.uk also do a similar one at a reasonable price. You may have to download the catalogue to see a photo of it. Cheers, Ian.

Thanks for all your replies, I have found one at RDG tools in Yorkshire for £35 plus £2 p+p, which seems like a reasonable price, I am leaning towards Bowden cable for operating the reversing lever.

Nick. :-)) :-)) :-))

Slight error in the last post, I didn't get my regulator from RDG, they dont do them any more, I got it from the 21st Century Steam Company.

Nick. :-)) :-)) :-))

Well its finished, had to adjust the timing a couple of times, the eccentrics kept slipping, a drop of locktite cured that. Also, one of the slides slipped, preventing the engine running in reverse, goes well now though. :-)) :-)) :-))
