About 5or 6 weeks ago my Dad and I took a trip to Model Slipway and picked up a "Maggie M" kit. He is building a Model Slipway "Our Lass II" and very kindly purchased this for me so I would be a companion builder :)

I took a week or so to digest the manual then also had a week out taking 60 teenagers camping, but by fitting in an hour here and there have made significant progress. The next few posts will hopefully bring you up to date.

I realise as an older kit there may have been numerous threads about this kit, if there is any interest in this thread I will continue with more updates. The previous catch up posts have been picture heavy with little text, if you have any questions please feel free to ask

irishcarguy... you're too kind

essex2visuvesi.. I drew lines to mark the plank edges with a pencil, then painted every other plank with a jar of "sleeper grime" enamel paint. The secret is to paint very badly but between the lines. Its a case of getting it streaky but in a uniform way, in line with the grain. The reason for every other plank? When you fill in the missing ones, any over paint just makes the first ones look darker, making the distinction more pronounced.

Tonight's update.

The water slides added, and the wheelhouse window frames lined in green. The frames will need a bit of tidying up.

Inside the seats are made painted and fitted.

On one of the previous pictures I had part assembled the net winches, they got sprayed black last night, lightly weathered and assembled tonight.

Between drying on the above, I assembled the white metal parts for various other winches and sprayed them blue. They will need all the details picking out in due time.

Thursday and Friday Mrs RJR and I took the youngest teenager and her friend camping to Bridlington. Had cracking weather on Thursday which made for a good day on the beach and more importantly a chance to wander around the harbour and nosey at the trawlers

Most of which had SH numbers.

At first glance they looked pretty pristine till you got alongside and it became apparent that rust is a big part of any working trawler no matter how shiny the wheelhouse looks from a distance !

So this afternoon I decided I couldn't leave Maggie with out a "light" weathering. I have started at the stern, the mid to forward section will need the handrails fitting before any rust is applied. I had already assembled the trawl boards so they were the starting point. They are only hanging on for theses pictures and need the chains fitting.

It's starting to look like how I remember it.

As a Scarborough lad it brings back some memories. Should build one myself really but it wouldn't be as good as your's

I don't know how I missed seeing this nice build - anyway it will be all the better when you finish your weathering.

Tonight's update.. I have spent the last few days working on the mast and anchor. The spare anchor still needs a coat of paint and I guess it will look a little "newer"

Now I have made the decision to weather I am doing it as I go along rather than leaving all to the end.

I Very much envy your ability to GO TO Model Slipway and meet with those fine people !

I live in California, I have bought several Model Slipways kits and have had many emails with them, but to meet them would be Great fun.

Thanks Tim, it was a interesting visit to Model Slipway, you don't expect such a well set up business behind a domestic bungalow.

We were treated like royalty on a tour and shown all the processes from castings to packing. If anyone thinks a model kit is expensive, you don't after seeing how labour intensive the production is.

This is my first Slipway kit but my Dad has built the 10 hatch coaster, Wyforce tug, Aziz and is currently building Our Lass 2.

I'm working on him to start a thread here for his current Our Lass build, but he cheats, he has a little helper

And, another question:

I am looking at the rudder construction, looks complex to me ( double hinged ? ) ..

Did you Gents experience difficulty in making it operate smoothly ?

The figure is a "converted" Tamiya pit crew member that I gave a milliput hi vis vest and a more appropriate paint job.

He served his time working for me with some 1/24 railway scratchbuilds

But as my last boat was 1/12th and this one is 1/32 he has moved to Dads house to help with the 1/24 Our Lass construction

The rudder went together really easy as most Model Slipway castings do. These close ups may help.

Gutted Dave !!!

All this time I thought he was paying an interest in our modelling...

He gained quite a cult status on a well known model railway forum. There was even concern for his well being when I posted this picture!

I'm happy to report all was well, it was just a bad case of a wobbly baseboard..

Ps the reason for this non progressing banter, I'm on holiday in bonnie Scotland
