Nordkap help
« on: June 04, 2023, 08:45:11 pm »

The kit I am building is circa 1980s and the instructions (such as they are) show you do this regarding the glazing to the bridge. Can anyone explain what Billings are suggesting you do here and why?

The latest instructions on line do not show this anymore.

It appears to me that they are suggesting gluing paper to the rear of the wall and then cutting out the paper from the windows. I presume this is to give the glazing a surface to stick to.

I built the Nordkap in the 1970s but I can't remember anything like this in the instructions (it was a long time ago {-) ).  A thought however is that I do recall the wood in my kit was very poor quality which split very easily.  Perhaps the idea is that the paper reinforcing would reduce the chances of splits when the windows were cut out.

Good luck with your build

Many thanks both,
The kit supplies preformed plastic window frames which need to be glazed separately.
The front facia of the bridge is curved and of thin ply, so the paper maybe some form of reinforcing?

Just about every image on line shows the finishes done differently, which doesn't help.  {:-{
