Can anyone point me in the direction of a battery powered countdown race starter.   Audible only please.  I've had a look around the internet and there doesn't seem to be that much about.Thanks

Try using the search words AUDIBLE COUNTDOWN TIMER. 

From a cursory search using those words, I found the following (USA):
