HMTrawler Gunner was the precursor to the Castle Class trawlers from Smiths Dock on Teeside in WW1. Several were converted to Q ships and although, logically, there were no drawings of the modifications, records indicate that Gunner carried 2x9pdrs, 2x6pdrs, 2xtorpedo tubes and assorted depth charges.Admiralty instructions were that we were not allowed to strike first but MUST be attacked, camouflage removed and then and only then could we fight back under the White Ensign! The model is disguised as a tramp steamer under Norwegian colours. Ivaldi being one of the many Norse elves. On being attacked, there is a large explosion* from the forecastle with smoke and flickering lights. Shouting and steam whistle sounds* then quiet. After a couple of mins there is single blast of the whistle* the Norwegian flag comes down and the White Ensign is raised. The bow 9pdr rises on its "disappearing" mount, the stern 9pdr covers drop as do the 6pdr covers and the hold cover lifts to reveal the Thornycroft bomb thrower. Guns are fired* and the nasty U-boat is sunk. Huzzah!
That's the theory anyway. All the above is fairly faithfully sorted on the model *EXCEPT FOR THE SOUNDS!!! I've fitted a Forge/Battlecraft multi-sound unit and a large, decent speaker and downloaded BBC sound effects but I just can't get the system switching properly. I'm using a Futaba radio with EPA options and I think it may be that I can't get the settings just right.
Anyhow, the model is 1/35 or so and just under 4ft long. Motor is a 555 and I'd allowed space for 4 x 6V lead/acid because it needs the ballast. Separate NiMh packs for some of the "extras". All lights work.
She went to Mayhem at Wicksteed and seemed to amuse!
I reckon £350 but collection only since a demo could be important!
Sorry about the length of the Ad but it's worth the telling.
