Havila Polaris
« on: June 14, 2025, 04:19:56 pm »

I have recently been on the Norwegian coastal voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes and back to Bergen. This is a 2660 nautical miles (3061 miles, 4926 Km) round trip and takes 12 days. The route is shared between 2 companies Havila with 4 ships and Hurtigruten with 7 ships with a daily serice between ports. These are basically ferries carrying Mail and cargo as well as passengers around the coast, they call in 35 ports northwards and 34 ports southwards with some passengers only being onboard for short journeys. Most of the voyage is between islands and up fjords with onlyshort sectors in open water.I discovered this model on sale in the onboard shop so had to get one. It is basically a LEGO type kit although the parts are smaller than standard LEGO. While not the most accurate (the bow shape is wrong as the Polaris has a bulb) it gives a good general appearance of the full sized ship. It wasn't a long build, an afternoon and evening only, could have been a bit quicker but the build diagrams were not that clear in parts so some dismantling and rebuilding was needed at times.I won't show every step just a few that show how it goes together.

Hi JimG,
You had a very nice memorial souvenir of a long journey around Norwegian coast reaching nearly 5000km.!! :embarrassed: :-))
The LEGO like large ferry model looks well done for LEGO style, doesn't it? O0 :embarrassed:
Haven't you seen unusual ships to report like some coastal guard vessels and/or the like ?

Hi KiyoI do have a number of ships and boats seen on the way, I do still need to download them off my phone onto the PC first. I might then be able to show some of the many photos to the group.
