My Big Mersey
« on: June 21, 2006, 03:48:12 pm »

For those of you that have been following my 1/6th scale Mersey Lifeboat build on the main Mayhem site here are a few pictures that I took today on the lake near where I live. Unfortunatly due to a glitch in the radio system none of the shots are of the boat in motion  :(.

Also here is a quick video clip of the boat on the water ( sorry about the quality but my proper digicam is also on the blink so these are video clips taken by my stills camera).

Sorry but no? :(? The video only shows the boat being pulled back to shore with the mooring line as the radio developed a fault after two short trial runs, neither of which I filmed as I was setting up the trim!!!!! :-[? :'(

I hope to be able to try again in a few days time.  ;)

Thanks for the comments, I hope to have the radio glitch sorted over the weekend and will try videoing the boat on the water sometime next week.  ;)

EUREKA!!!!!

After four hours of wading through the wiring in the innards of the Mersey I have found the cause of the failure to run properly!! It turned out to be one sodding switch that was not operating properly!! >:(? ?Now I only have to solder in a new one and refit all the parts that I had to remove to reach it!!

This means a trip back to the lake next week( its full of anglers at the weekends? :P) for the video trials, fingers crossed!!  ;)

Good news all !!!!!!!!

I now have video clips of the first sailing ( no carriage launch as yet, the banks of the lake are not suitable :'()

I will be giving the video to Martin tomorrow at Doncaster so that he can post it on Mayhem and link it to the forum as he kindly suggested.

Try this link to see a low res version, it may not work for some of you!!!!!

Ignore the string!! I always test new boats with a safety line cliped on!! :D

Mike,

That must be the longest and bestest model boat video I've watched in ages... love the boat too - extremely nice job you've done there!

Well done Mike, the vid. gives a good idea of the Mersey's "presence" on the water.

I look forward to the high res. Vid and also some untethered footage with "full ahead".

Roger in France.

P.S. A "Mersey" is now 5th. on my "Must Build" list! All down to your inspiration.

As noted in the for sale section the Big Mersey has now been collected and is on its way to Scotland with its new owner. I hope he has as much fun sailing it as I had building it!  :D

He tells me that he also intends to use it to help raise funds for the RNLI so its is still fulfilling its primary function.

Here are the last two pictures from me of the complete setup (the second has a rare image of the builder included  8))

Thanks for all the interest both here in the forum and on the main Mayhem site, BUT watch this space for news of the new project!!
