I need some ideas for a motor mount for my springer.
I'm replacing the shaft and prop tube but now it doesn't line up with the motor.
Ideas please?

Hi,
You say that your motor will not line up with the new shaft assembly you have fitted,
can you not use a double U J set-up this will give you a greater scope of where the motor can be mounted, and this in turn opens up for even more ways to mount said motor .

motor mount on my fire springer:
An alternative is to use a piece of aluminium plate, bend to right angle and drill for motor mount and drive holes, and holes for holding down screws.

Martin....wrap motor in cling film.....Big dollop of P38 or similar in bottom of springer. Put motor to coupling and prop shaft and gently squeeze the motor into the P38. Perfect alignment....When dry, remove cling film...Done.

Try this thread for some ideas on mounts.. O0

I think the P38 is easiest....
Has anyone used one of these or know where I can buy something like these?

I think you may find you need the matching prop shaft as they are not 8mm standard , but astek do an ally one if you want one let me know

I've been doing a bit of searching on the old interweb, found a couple of ideas...
I like the way it's adjustable even after installing it.

I could file a couple of slots for the screw holes to make this one adjustable...

But I think this is the easiest way to ensure good motor / prop shaft alignment. - Who sells them?

I wonder if they will do a deal on their new "Sprinter" tug too! ::)

I thought they where one of your sponsor's they may give you to do a quick build for the next Mayhem meet next year :embarrassed:
I think you still have to put a motor mount bracket to hold the weight plus you will have to change tubes

If you use one of the coupler housings Martin you really need to fix it to some sort of bulkhead otherwise you will get twisting of the prop shaft with the torque of the motor.

Sorry, didn't notice. :embarrassed:

I was editing mine to include it when you posted so you would not have seen it/

Support the motor is easy enough, it's the alignment that crucial.
Many is the time I've asked someone at the lake;
"What sound system is that?"
"What sound sytem? It doesn't have one!"
"What's that noise then?"
"The coupling."
"................Oh!"
-
use a double coupling
Graupner Couplings
Graupner Double Coupling
or a Deans one

I wonder is I could solder one up out of brass....... :)

That's defeatist talk! ::)

There are one or two cures for that noise:
1. Stand further away {-)
2. Wear ear plugs. ;)

If you use the Graupner coupler housing and the ordinary Graupner coupling WHATS YOUR PROBLEM ! :-\
