Title: Photo Competition - Huge Prize!
Post by: Martin (Admin) on June 17, 2009, 08:16:24 pm
....well a £20 quid Argos voucher OK!  :-)

To lighten the mood on Mayhem lets have a creative Photo Competition.

The theme is .......... DETAILS!

That's it....... Ready, Steady..... wait-for-it, wait-for-it, GO!

End date: Sunday July 5.

Sorry Martin.
Details are scale related. What might pass as detail at 1:96 is nowhere near the detail required at 1:12. Perhaps you should have another rethink?
Personally I would go for "Quality of Workmanship" no matter what the scale. I thing "g-George" would be a front runner on that one.

the story behind this, it got ran over by a speed boat, that then got fouled in the rigging and then gouged a hole

That's some beautiful examples of modeling Bunkerbarge. The weathering really brings it to life.
On the modeling side, how about these:.......

- each of the Dreadnought's boats are 2 - 3" inches long

Peter.

That's the one Peter, although a couple of club members have said that I didn't really do myself justice because you couldn't dertermine the size from the article and it appears to be quite a bit bigger than it is.

Here's a couple more giving you a better idea of how big it is.  The scale is actually 1/35th.

Not missing the point at all. In common with most modellers I have a huge collection of little details of full size ships. The forum would be absolutely swamped if we all just posted details of "full size" things. I repeat: as this is a "model boat" forum then the details should be of model details. Your own models or somebody elses, makes no difference.
As far as your comment about the subject not being a point of discussion goes, I think that remark was out of character for you, and was verging towards the realm of censorship. Nuff said. BY.
Title: Re: Photo Competition - Huge Prize!
Post by: DickyD on June 18, 2009, 05:35:29 pm
I actually agree with Bryan this once. I think this should be models only and not 1:1 ships, because, lets be honest most of us can take half decent photos of real ships, models are a different matter.

The subject is "Details" interpret that entirely as you wish.

This thread is for the competition entries so if you want to open a debate about it then I would suggest that you go ahead on another thread but it won't change what is going on here.  If you have suggestions for alternative competitions then feel free to air them, all suggestions would be most welcome and could well form the basis of future threads.

As for censorship, the needles getting a bit stuck on that one, just get some pictures posted and smile a bit.

Getting a bit grumpy are we? No need for a pet lip. All I suggested was that the "rules" of the competition should be pics of models and not random shots of full size ships. No "cheers" this time. BY.

Sorry Bryan but I am definitely with Bunkerbarge on this one. This competition was obviously started as a bit of fun. No need for rules or guidelines, simply make of the title what you want. Remember Rules are for the guidance of the wise and the blind obedience of fools, so it is good not to have any for once!!

These photo's are of the survey Ship Ocean Voyger sinking in the Indian Ocean due to the failuer of a 36" valve in the Engine Room. All hands got off with out loss on to the "Chase Boat" An American warship tried to assist (seen in the back ground) but two of the three salvage pumps she sent on board didn't work so all three were removed .
and she sank after 9 hrs ... Voyger was the ship taking most of the film and pictures of the salvage work on the 20 ton section of the TITANIC'S Hull on the 1998 expedition

Afternoon Doug! (my own personal spell checker)

Actually, it's a bloke from Poland choosing the photos, so would that make it a "Pol?"

Have a Jury of Polish persons, then we could poll the Poles to find out who's in pole position.

Actually Martin asked a team of highly motivated, experienced, well respected and skilled adjudicators to select the winning picture.

Unfortunately they refused so he asked the moderators instead. :embarrassed:

And the winner is...

Bunkerbarge, with his photo entitled:

"A Dingy in the hand is worth....."

Doing a poll was just to difficult in the end, so I asked a few people and a professional photographer friend of mine.
Nice one Richard! Cheque's in the post....

Morning Richard,

Would you like as Argos voucher, used notes in a brown envelope, a present, alcohol, me to come and dig over your garden for a wet morning, a "get out of jail free card", shares in an Icelandic bank, love of a couple of loose women?

Regards,
 Martin

Now there's a thought but I'm afraid it just doesn't stack up against the two loose women.  I'd like to know where he intends getting them from!! O0
