Title: Spektrum DX5e Faulty
Post by: Bob_V on January 18, 2010, 10:31:02 pm
I have a dodgy stick pot on my DX5e. Seems to be an open circuit wiper as the servo goes to one end of the travel on switch on.

Before anyone asks, yes I have tried more than one receiver. O0
Has anyone else experienced this problem on Spektrum transmitters? My cheap Chinese transmitters seem to work fine.

Also does anybody know the warranty period for Spektrum equipment?

Bob.

I think there was an issue like this with some of the DX6 sets. Give Ryan at Horizon Hobbies a ring. He's the service engineer and an honest bloke (those terms are not always mutually exclusive.............)

To help diagnose the issue I have just one question
after a few seconds (after the light is on in the recever) will the servo move with when you move the stick.

If so I know what the problem is.

Mark,

I,m pretty sure the problem is the pot.

If I give the wiper conection a very gentle touch with a cocktail stick then the servo moves correctly.

If I let go then the servo moves to one end of the travel.

I have tried a soldering iron on the joint but it is not a dry joint.

Even so I would be interested in your theory on the fault.

I can see where Mark is coming from.   With 2.4GHz gear servos can, in some circumstances, take up different positions once the tx/rx have established the link.   However I think a duff pot is more likely from what you've said.   As FLJ suggests, the best move would be to contact Ryan Coxon at Horizon.  Even if it's out of warranty so won't be fixed free, he can almost certainly let you have a spare pot so you can do a diy job on it.

I have now been in touch with Horizon Hobby UK.

They seem to agree with my diagnosis and asked me to return the Tx for repair.

It would seem that Ryan Coxon left the company just before Christmas so is no longer a contact.

I must admit the response I received from Horizon was very encouraging and they thought the
turnaround time for repairs would be two to three days.

Thanks folks for your help.

Watch this space.....

Indeed.    I was sorry to hear that Ryan had left the company but it seems that there's still a strong customer service ethos there.

Cheers
