As long as its on the right frequency, the RX doesn't really care what is doing the transmitting.  The "double conversion" refers to the way the receiver does its job - it is a way of tightening up the tuning to make sure that only the wanted signal gets in.  It does need the proper double conversion crystals.

Dual conversion sounds like it could be 35Mhz which means it cannot be used in surface craft only aircraft. Dual conversion isn't generally used in boats anyway.

Yes. I had one of these radio too, good set but do a proper range check as my one did have a duff crystal.

You can get Dual Conversion Hitec Receivers on 40mhz as well as 35mhz. They are usually  6 channel and higher.

Genuine Hitec dual conversion crystals have a blue label on the tab. Single conversion crystals have a green label.

And you only need the Dual Conversion crystal in the RX - there are no dual conversion Tx crystals :-))

No such thing as a dual conversion transmitter.
It's the method used to process the received signal.
