Hi Guys!!!!
I decided to start a new project, a Bobby Police Launch, the plans are for free in the net, it is a simple design, but my objective is to make her with no wood, I’m using expanded PVC (known as sintra too) and styrene. The plan mark that she should be built with balsa wood, most of them ¼”, the PVC is about 1/8”, so I’ll have to glue two layers.
The original plans was inside the July 1977 Model Boats Magazine, to print them I had to reduce to 30% the archive

Hello!!!
Here you can find the plan, sorry, it was too heavy, didn't let me insert it

Hi, I built two many years ago, the remaining one has a brushless motor and goes very well!

Welcome to the Bobby appreciation society :-))
first rc boat I built..
-
Hello!!!!
Thank you guys for your comments
The next step was to make and install the keel (it is in two parts), these are made with PVC, then made the hole for the prop tube, by now I’m gluing both sides of the boat, this is with styrene
Best regards
-
Hello!!!!
The next thing was to install the propeller tube, I had a Robbe shaft and tube stored in a drawer that fit all right
-
Hello!!!
Next was to made and install the knees under the chine, the plan marks that those should be of 1/4", but decided not to use two layers of PVC

Hi Guys!!!
By now I build the bottom of the hull, this is made with styrene, made it a little larger then trim it
-
Hello!!!
After ending the bottom of the hull, I noticed that the expanded PVC use to keep all the scratches, even if you make them with the nail., my intention was to let it in the deck because of his texture, but I found out this inconvenience and already have some little scratches, so decided to use a thin styrene that I have in stock.
Best regards
-
After installing the new cover of the deck I made and installed a couple of belts in the hull
-
And began making the cabin
Best regards

Hello!!!!
Other think I made was the ruder, it's all made with brass and a little tin solder.
I made it as the plan said, but I'm feeling it's a little small {:-{ , what's your experience guys???
Best regards
-
I think possibly a bit bigger.
-
Make the rudder longer to line up with the lower edge of the prop.
A little wider would be OK too.
Ned
-
Ok, thank you guys :-))
I will do it again with your advices
Best regards
-
Have found mine, I will do a water test tomorrow to give you an idea on the water level. :-))
-
Wooow, thank you very much, maybe this weekend I'll begin painting the hull
Best regards
-
Hello!!!
Hope you all are fine
By now I´m building the main cabin, decided to use more formers in the center cabin, they all are made with PVC, the cabin is styrene
Best regards
-
Hello!!!
By now I'm working on the cabins roof, as I'm using styrene it's a little difficult to glue it because of the rigidity of the material, I was thinking about using a thinner material but the one I have is too much thin and don't want to buy a new canvas, so I had the idea to use a couple of small presses through the width size in order to bend the material as was needed then glue it. As I only have two presses needed to do it by segments
Best regards
-
Hello!!!!!
The next thing I did was the front of the cabin, Don't know you guys, but I made as the plans said and the sides didn't fit anywhere <:( , I had to do it again, first I made it with cardboard a little bit bigger and show it up to the rest of the cabin to in order to give it the needed size, at the end everything fits all right ;)
Best regards
-
Hello!!!
The next thing I did was the cabin roof, the same way as the rest of the cabin, had to use the two presses, at the end I let it a small sun shade in the front
I even installed the belt that goes around the cabin

Hi
Build looking good :-))
You asked about water line etc, these are some pictures I took with all the gear I use in the boat..
Also a shot of the rudder for reference..
-
Wooow, thank you very much for those pictures :-)) , now I can see where the water nine goes, even the size of the ruder and some details that need to be done
I'm extremely grateful

Hi escipion, no picture but I fitted a 3mm x 3mm. spray rail starting 6cm down from the bow and arriving at the lowest level of the hull at 23 cms from bow, continuing to the stern, it also protects the corners.
The waterline follows this down (it is curved) lower hull colour below this spray rail. Then I continued the waterline at about 6cm down from deck.
If your boat is fast you will benefit from a spray rail.
Sorry noy replied before but I have been on holiday.
regards Roy
-
Thank you very much Roy, really appreciate all the information :-)) .
I was thinking about using a spray rail in the top of the hull to protect her, but you have an interesting idea.
I'm planing using a speed 400 electric motor, don't know how fast she will run. Other problem is that my little daughter (6 years old) is telling everybody that it's going to be her boat <*< , so maybe I'll try not to do a fast boat and think about putting both spray rails. I´ll keep in mind the distance of the waterline that you are telling me
I'm extremely grateful
Best regards
-
A 400 should give it sprightly performance. If your daughter finds it a little too quick, just drop the voltage down a bit.
-
Ok, I'll keep that in mind, thank you very much
-
HI
Found this clip I took of a enlarged version of Bobby and fitted with IC, at the EPort show 2011

Have a nice weekend

Hi Guys!!!!
I was planning about painting the launch in red and dark blue the hull with white the cabin and gray the cabin and deck, but, as I’d already comment you, my little daughter decided It’s going to be her launch, she decided she’s going to have different colors: purple, pink and blue, some kind of barbies combination.
I had some troubles with the pink, believe it was an old painting can and took me about one week to let it as I want.
I already made a new rudder, following your advices, looks better now
Best regards
-
Hi Guys!!!!
I’ve been working slowly but didn’t stop. Made the base, varnish it and put some rubber to protect the boat. Finished painting the cabin and in other things, I’m making and painting the cabin and deck details. Send you a picture as she is by now
I feel the colors look good, discovered the details stand out in white color, by now I’m painting them, I’ll send you a picture when they are already mounted
Best regards
-
love the colour scheme....... O0 O0

Hello!!!
Thank you for your comment Neil
I've been working in the lathe a couple of hours making the horns, as the launch have no specific scale had to do them by feeling, want your opinion, feel like they are a little larger, haven't mount them yet, send you a couple of pictures
Nice weekend
-
that looks just about right to me. :-))
-
They look perfect.
Ned
-
Hi Guys!!!
Thank you for your advice, decided to put those horns
By now I’ve been working a little slowly. Already made, paint and mounted the hand rails, even installed the front bollard, the front hatch and the horns, all with small bolts and adhesive.
Best regards
-
What a charming model.
-
Great build I like the photo's .

Hi Guys!!!!
Thank you for your comments
It took the time for the rudder servo, the first thing was to make the base, it's made with PVC, only the piece where you screw the servo is made with styrene
Best regards

Hello!!!
This week I made and fixed the main cabin windshields, they are made from a CD box in good shape. Next was the bow and stern metal fenders, at the beginning noticed that the PVC use to keep the scratches and the bow is made with this material, so decided to put metal fenders, brass in this case.
Other things I’ve been doing was soldering the motor diodes, adapting the coupler and cutting the propeller shaft (was too long). Have no photos of this, but am sending you the last one I took with the windshields and the brass fenders
Best regards
-
Hi Guys!!!
By now I installed the motor with the couple. Even I'm working with the situation lights, spend some time with the lathe doing them, they only need painting and installing them
Best regards
-
I nick some of "my daughters" nail varnish to threadlock screws & grub screws. %)
You'll never find them again if they vibrate loose!
-
Thank you Martin!!!
Thank you for the advice, you are right, I'll take that in mind and do it.
Best regards
-
great work.. !
-
Hello Guys!!!
Thank you very much Krishna
The launch is almost finished, so I’ll tell you about the things I’ve been doing since the last time I posted the progresses.
First I painted and mounted the situation lights, even put a hand rail next to the door, believe it should have one
-
Then I made the mast with some modifications, added some blue and yellow lights
-
Send you a picture al the launch as she is by now, you can see the mast in his position, added a couple of cleats in the stern, believe it’s too lonely back there; Made and installed the door handles and made the cabin windows, only made two by side in order to let some ventilation for the electronics. Feel like she needs a searching light, so maybe it´s going to be the next step, by now she is more than 100% than the plan.
-
lovely.. once again.. waiting for a video of her maiden voyage..
-
Thank you Krishna, if everything goes fine, this weekend will be her first trip :-)
Best regards
-
I can say that the electronics are finished, she is using a 2.4 ghz pistol transmitter, the BEC-ESC is fixed with Velcro, I’m deciding where to fix the receiver, where you see it or up near a window, it have a small antenna.
Already made the first run outside the water and everything seems ok, hope this week can make the final adjusts and make the first run in the pond by the weekend
Best regards
-
great..
-
Hi Guys!!!
At last, yesterday was her first trip, She looks nice, at the beginning a little tendency to go to the right, and a little dive in the prow, so made the corrections mechanically in the rudder and a little weight in the stern. Only could navigate a few minutes because a heavy rain started :((
I'm uploading the video in Youtube, as soon as I have the link I'll send it to you, by now can share only a photo
Best regards
-
nice..
-
Thank you Krishna
Here is the video

Have a great week

Great little build Escipion
The model sails really well.
One question
Why does everyone sit with their backs to the lake
and ignore the boats?
Ned
-
Hello Netleyned!!!
What can I say, The place where the video was taken is within a small park, people use to go because there are a lot of restaurants, ice cream parlors around it, on weekends is a family place, people is seated around because the benches are not enough. People who really are interested in the boats are mainly children and they are behind those who are sailing. Mexico City have 20 million citizen, but hobbies as building boats, airplanes, trains, cars, etc. have almost disappeared, The hobbie with more fans is RC airplanes, then cars and last the boats, for flying airplanes you have to go out of the city, so the hobbie takes you all day. Other thing is that we only have a couple of public places inside the city where you can enjoy the RC boats, no place for glow engines. Yesterday there were only two more boats. The park have two blocks, in the other block there is a fountain like you saw in the video, there the people (mainly children) can rent some Acuacraft Tugs (a good business), but that is almost all you can see in the hole city. <:(
Best regards
-
beautiful boat.. and nice sailing..
-
Thank you Krishna, my daughter really enjoyed the sailing
Best regards
-
Hi Guys!!!!
I have one question, if you see the video, when she make a turn she tends to incline to the opposite side, for example, if she turns to the right she inclines to the left. How do I correct that situation???
Best regards
-
Think she needs more Ballast as it seems to waddle from side to side when going ahead
Dave
-
Thank you Dave I'll add more ballast the next time
Best regards
-
a little led weight will help.. and loves the movement of the boat in water.. that brigs great realism while moving..
-
Thank You for your comment Krishna, I'll add some weight.
Even some of you sent me some photos an advices about the waterline, believe there should be more information in the plan, maybe the magazines article talk about it
Best regards
-
welcome...
