You make that word 'moderated' sound like a surgical procedure <*< ....

I know Gordon is not a sprightly young chicken like some ........but have never seen or read a vexatious word about anything in any of his posts

If no one lives close by, possibly a member who knows his address should telephone the  :police:...and ask them to check on him

Goodness  RAAArtyGunner..I did not mean to be rude.........I have just re read 100 or so posts from Regiment and found no trace or need for the blue pen that leads to the brig

If in fact Regiment has been moderated, I could only conclude it was for a valid reason.......having said this I would have hoped that some notification from the WEB moderators would have been appropriate for a member that has posted in excess of 1500 messages and is at the ripe age of 84 years here on this not so gracious earth [if this is the case]  >>:-(

I am sad to say that this once very excellent site has now become to politically correct.Good people are being banned, whilst certain others get away with saying what they llike about anyone, and remain here.
I remain a member at present, but like another good friend, very rarely comment any longer.
I sincerely hope the site can return to the more friendly and informative page that it once was.

There is sometimes traffic that only those on-line at the time will see. Not all moderated posts will be seen by everyone, if they are removed in the interim.
Applying logic, people will find no traces of posts that have been removed.

Martin,
There is a feeling of not being equally moderated.
We have lost some members who have been members for a long time.
This seems to have accelerated recently and gives the impression that Mayhem has become more intolerant of only SOME members.
Please take notice of some of the above comments from non-contentious members.

I'm gonna sit on the fence and side with neither.

What I would ask is this. Was regiment made aware it was only a temporary ban?

If a moderator just sent him a message saying 'you are banned'  then it stands to reason he has no idea he could come back.

If he was told it was temporary, than he has decided not to return of his own free will.

Only Martin can issue a ban and he only does so with good reason. This sort of thing will never seem fair to some people as they are rather quick to rush to judgement without full knowledge of the facts. I have been a Mayhem moderator in the past and it is a thankless job as all you tend to get is ill considered flak as people 'have a right to their opinions'. Curiously that right is not always extended to other members who may take a different view.

I have been moderated myself on occasion and accepted that some people might have felt I was out of order in pursuing a particular hobby horse. I don't have an issue with that at all as I recognise that it was what I said that was objected to and there was no personal vendetta against me by the Martin or the moderators. OK, fair enough and no hard feelings on either side. Life goes on. However, certain people seem to take being moderated as a personal affront and that is the wrong attitude entirely.

I belong to a number of internet Forums and Mayhem is without doubt the most relaxed of the lot in what can be said. However there is no 'right' of free speech. Martin owns the Forum and sets the rules among which is the desire not to leave himself open to any form of legal action in respect of comments posted on here. Mayhem is NOT a platform for airing disputes with traders for example, no matter how hard done by you may feel. If you think you have been ripped off then you must take it up with the party concerned.

Oh Blimey , here we go again...

Its Martins Forum , he can do what the  %%...likes.

Having seen some posts from people who have been banned recently and in the past, and then thrown their teddy's out of the pram, The Mods were completely correct.  ( Can not comment on Regiment  as I did not see his post and also did not know he had a Temporary Ban)
Some go to set up other sites saying we will not do what has been done on Mayhem, But then you read the rules of that Forum and it is completely the same if not worse.

Its a Forum, get over it.. Get Building and Move on..  Most people who have been banned come back on, some have been banned more than once and are back on.. 8) 8) 8)

Sorry, but there is one particular person on here who IS allowed to stick 3 funnels sorry fingers up and say what he likes, about who he likes when he likes and gets away with it.There are quite a few on here who do know who I mean, but neither of us want to break the important rule of naming him,for precisely the reason it will be US who get moderated and banned and not that person.
You are quite correct in saying it is Martins site, and on the whole it is a damn good site, but surely without the contributers there would be no site?
Martin has earlier said he is taking heed of what is being said, and as I said earlier I hope it can get back to more like it was.

It's me! It's me!

There is indeed a small group on here who don't like some of the things I say and who exchange rather nasty emails amongst themselves in private about me without realising that I am getting copies but, ho hum, that's just the way some people are. I am quite prepared to defend my views in public subject to moderation of course where everyone can see the arguments and make up their own minds. I certainly don't expect everyone to agree with me all of the time but I do try to make a reasoned argument and am happy to receive constructive criticism rather than just the usual abuse. Usually I find this works but some people are just unreceptive!

I knew my post would provoke this reaction which simply demonstrates the point I am making.

Martin deserves our respect and appreciation for the way he manages the forum - he certainly has mine.

I wonder how many people have been moderated for describing how they are making a model boat?

Absolutely Mick and it was a personal message intended to try to explain why a certain person who I have never met is waging some sort of personal vendetta against me (and others) for no good reason that I can understand. It was intended to be factual rather than nasty but you chose not to receive it that way. That is your choice but do be aware that anything that is committed to the internet should be regarded as in the public domain and is being recorded. Personally I would prefer to keep those email exchanges between members private  but would be happy to publish them if you feel it would help the situation.

Never mind that this person has been identified, the principle he and others use is that there are boundaries. If you push them hard you get moderated and perhaps banned.
Some people know when to back off and don't get  :police:  . What they said remains on display because it is inside the rules ... just.
Others either don't know or don't care and get  <*<   off the forum. All trace of their bad behaviour is deleted.
It's a digital cliff that gives the impression that some people get away with it and others don't, but it's not really the case.

Mayhem should be about Model Boating and not about people pursuing personal agendas.

No Worries Martin,Colin will take over and run it! (into the ground probably !)
No elections necessary here,it would be a foregone conclusion who would win or get the last word as always as far as Mr Bishop is concerned.
And Colin, NO way would I publish your personal message to me,at least I pride myself on being a person of integrity, and speak my mind.YOU take it which ever way you like, but personally? I know what I would like to do.My name is Rottweiler, and I bite but only take hold when absolutely necessary, and those of you who DO know me,will know also that I seek fairness.
Martin,I rest my case, please either remove the self righteous and self opinionated person from the page,or remove me please,as everyone who has my opinion of him seems to like to load the gun,and shoot the bullets, but is afraid to come forward and lend support!

That's my right and only wife and daughter can tell (frequently) me otherwise!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but no one has the  right to enforce it on others...... unless you work for the IRS I guess. ( FLJ! )  ok2

DickyD (RIP) and I were sometimes at odds and some of you may remember, we had a major bust-up resulting in me taking the Forum off-line for a few days but we eventually resolved the issues and got a better understanding of each other, in the end.

That's all I hope for on the Forum, that we remember to respect each other opinions, even if just see the avtar of certain Mayhemers 'winds-you-right-up' before we even read the post!

So what is the problem then? I say what I feel is right, does that mean that certain other people cannot argue against it? If you feel you have a good argument then come out with it don't just cave in to say that 'Mr Bishop has the last word'. I'm prepared to argue my case so why don't you argue yours? If you are right then I am perfectly prepared to concede the issue. If you have a position you need to be prepared to stick up for it, don't be a wimp!

1. However I was not afforded the right to contact the WEB owner........my e-mails to him were blocked...so I was unable to appeal my case
....so from this I do see a certain inconstancy of comment here....about rights, privileges or the right of reply
2. A few days ago, I made a simple comment in the original 'regiment' thread .....that if no one had seen or heard from our 84 year old member, why not call the Police & ask them to check on him.......I also noted that this was not meant to be a silly comment or suggestion etc

Correct, WE Aussies who call a spade a spade say that is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Our laws are based on yours and unless I am wrong the TRUTH is ALWAYS a defence against claims of alleged, meaning it has to be proved, slander or libel.
Just because some "idiot" takes offence it is not slander or libel.
With the utmost respect, I think that is what the collective is saying yes moderate but do not be narrow minded and politically correct. I note that our moderators are located world wide and hope collective world wide experience comes into play
All to often we see the threat of "legal action" used to shut up the truth, if you fall for that then you are putting a nail in the coffin of freedom of speech.

Errrrr.... carrots?!

What's up Doc, turn left at Albuquerque.

There are those on here would make very good politicians, what with their grasp of the written word, and how to manipulate it.

Anyway, what I meant to say, hopefully, my shift in country, coupled with the escape from work, means that soon, I may be able to get a new workshop, start back onto the designing, building and sailing of my long list of "want to builds". And all the hulls I have already, require building into the boats intended.
If all goes well, maybe the odd (very) thread on here as well.
Just at the moment, final finishing touches to home, the magnificent beaches, the beautiful people who live here, and the best food in the world, are getting in the way, just a tad. And I'm supposed to be losing weight.
Life can be hard at times, can't it.
Oh, and did I mention, so many beautiful local boats to photograph, draw and model.
Heaven can't be better than this, if only I could speak the lingo.
Can't have everything, I suppose,
cheers
 :-))

ps - and the photo is NOT distorted, they ARE built that way.

Aha becomes clear now.

Wondered how Kiwi land became SE Asia which we are part of, so they tell us.

I like carrots cause they are crunchy.

I am an administrator (we are three) of the French forum.

I support 100 % MARTIN

It is HIS forum

It is HIM who is responsible

We cannot say everything and anything on a forum.

If we are not satisfied we do not come any more on the forum.

For those who enquired after Regiment, I have just had an e mail from him, saying he is alive and well, and making model yachts.
He didnt know how long he had been banned for, but had received an e mail asking him not to repeat any type of comment he was banned for,and if he did give his word he could return.
He told me he had stated his mind all his life,84, and was not going to stop now. HE BINNED THE E MAIL!
PLEASE,do NOT escalate this into yet another argument, Gordon would not want that, can we just agree that his actions speak louder than words, and above all,HE is ok and happy.
Thanks,
Mick F
