Hi all,Relative rookie here so please excuse what may likely be a very naive question! has anyone had much experience in having someone create an STL file for them? I'm currently building a 1/72 scale HMS Southampton, of WW1 and Jutland fame. She had four lovely funnels, two each the same size, but I'd love to have the funnels done in 3D, to make it look really good. I've had a go looking at things like Blender or Freecad but the technology is a bit beyond me at present.
Has anyone had luck in having someone design something similar before, and would the cost be ruinous? I'm naively hoping that two cylindrical funnels wouldn't take hours and hours for someone to design, but I could be way wrong, so thought I would get some opinions here before i went somewhere like CGTrader, or talk to the bank about a loan for shapeways!

Have been having a play with this, by no means am I an expert in 3d modelling but it's all good practice. Quite happy with how it's going so far
There's another tube to add, then it's on to the cage arrangement at the top. after that it's the second funnel

Further fiddling and the first section printed. I did imagine it’d have an issue with the very top layers as they’re a 90 degree overhang with no support, so the rest of the funnels I’ll do in three sections

Wow!
That's impressive work especially when you look at the details of the original funnels, it takes me hour's to build the funnels for my tugs by hand especially the like's of my Norton cross which has some very interesting shapes. Well done.
Regards, Pete. :-)) :-)) :-))
