Title: Bow Thrusters

Just wanting to no if anybody has used these or knows anything about them? Looks like they mite be kind of neat to in stall in a boat. {-)

Yes I have one fitted to Tito Neri and one fitted to Dutch Partner and have also used them on other boats.

Fine but can be noisy, if used on too higher voltage I have found that they are quietest on 6 volts Tito has an ESC to control it but the Partner has a switch system.
not because the switch is any better but I was limited to space on the Partner tug.

Make sure that you suppress the motor though.

I've used one on my deepv semi plaining boat ( see my avatar) which has a beam of 12" and length of 42 inches, and have seen them fitted to v hull model lifeboats of longer length and as catengineman says they can be noisy but do work well.

Hi Keith , ready built thrusters are good and can be niosy if used on too high a voltoage like catengineman says ,
but you dont have to go down the commercial route there are a few other ideas out there like the one ministeve uses for his tugs .
But i have also perfected (if not a bit crude) a side thruster idea http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=15323.0 ,
this method does work even with only one motor/side as the tanker/ thing  had the weight of not only
1 x 12v 40ah bat
2 x 12v 20ah bats
2 x 12v 7ah bats
2 x 6v 4ah bats
plus a side wind and it still worked for me .
