My friend Lachie Stewart has yet another new vessel on the water, this time the Northern Lighthouse Vessel Pharos. Still some detail to be added but already a cracking model.

An other fantastic model by Lachie. :-))
-
A lovely model and a very nice place to sail it. I used to enjoy watching THV Patricia working in the bay
but not seen her since the new THV Galatea arrived on station. They would both make very good models.
:-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

lovely day for her to sail and as always a top LAckie build, it was a pleasure to see her sail and sail with her {-)
nice photo Andy... you going to richmond today/tomorrow = Sunday 01st May? %%

Very nice model

Somewhat after the event but being the ever elusive 'Pimpernel' mole I could have been there or then again i might not have been. Rumour has it that I was at Carman flying field but will this convince 'Don't be Vague' and the Richmond crew?
Will pass the compliments to Lachie.

Today was an almost total whiteout up here in Scotland but Lachie phoned early afternoon to see if I would join him to sail the now completed Pharos on Loch Lomond. Ever the aged fool I agreed but before I left I charged up the NiCad for the converted Seaport tug and strapped on a FlyCam1, which I bought at an auction last year, to the front of the wheelhouse. First time I have tried it.
We did indeed get a window between blizzards and I thought that the FlyCam1 performed reasonably well for an inexpensive gizmo operating in fairly marginal light conditions.

Lovely looking model. Loads of character. :-))

Andy she looks a treat on the water - did you get any fine detail photos or were you too busy dancing to Jimmy Shand??
10 out of 10 for Lachie.
Geoff

Lovely looking ship. I saw her off Galloway a few years ago on a "northabout" Douglas/Belfast crossing. I thought then that she would have made a cracking build. Nice one!

Didn't get any detail shots that particular day as another blizzard swept in. Lachie has sailed the model again, still in awful weather conditions, and the following swathe of shots are the result. Please excuse the odd raindrop or two on the lens.
My thanks to all who have complimented the model and I have passed on the compliments to Lachie. He is completely computer illiterate, hence my Max Clifford role.
He is very pleased with the lights on the model, rightly so in my opinion.

Hello
Very very nice work !

Yes, really nice and the lights give it a nice mood too. What scale is it?
Dave

Hi Marine, what a great group of images & very good detail too. It is hard to believe it is a model in some of the pictures. I really like the one with the hills in the background, that's one to hang on a wall. Thanks for sharing, Mick B.
-
wow. one of the best boats I have seen.

Apologies for not replying sooner Dave. The model is to 1:50 scale.
Thanks to all for the compliments which I have passed on to Lachie.
I have started another thread on Lachie's build of another Ferguson ship the Polestar. This promises to be just as good.

Hi
Very nice work. Can I ask how you did the marine growth on the bouy's?
-
Fantastic. Well done. And great photography to boot.
What scale figures did you us on your model?? They look great and most I have not seen before.

Hi

Thanks Michael, I'll pass on your compliment to Lachie, builder of the model, and also get a detailed description of the marine growth. I'm fairly sure I remember him saying that he had coated the buoy with glue and rolled it through some dirt and fine gravel on his garden path, then painted the dried product in suitable colours, but I will check with him.

Again I will have to check with Lachie but I think the figures are 1:48, slightly large for a 1:50 model. Of course it could be a strapping Scots crew brought up on a on a healthy diet of porridge.

Wow, amazing model and stunning photos taken from the right perspective as to give the illusion these were taken from a real ship.
One really can hardly say if it wasn't the real ship.
The illumination of wheelhouse, deck house rooms and deck aisles is also fantastic as well as the choice of deck crew in their rain coats and rubber boots, especially on this drizzly, hazy and overcast winter's day, which capture that certain air of a Scottish lighthouse habitat.
But she is a buoy layer/handler and only maintains lighthouses as an extra chore, isn't she?
Where are the figurines from? Preiser? Or did you "dress them up" yourself from e.g. some military personnel?
I haven't seen those officers which assembled for a smoke and chat beneath the funnel on the port bridge wing before.
edit: forgot to ask, the paddle wheel steamer in the background is that the WAVERLY?
In 1990 I took a ride on her down the river Clyde from Glasgow.

A guy dosent get an appreciation for the size and scale of that ship until you see a man next to her..
Very nice ship..very nice.

Hi Andy
The idea of rolling the buoy in dirt is a great idea that I may use, thanks for that. I really like the 'moody' photos in the storm makes it much more real. Thanks again for posting this build.

great model tons of detail its good that you have to look every were and see such fine detail credit to the owner 10/10 and in the correct scale as well what more could you ask for tassie48

Thanks for picking this up Gingyer. At present I'm one of the 'disenfranchised' who had to re-register so I can't look at replies to my recent posts.
To all who have commented on Lachie's Pharos thank you very much and I will pass the compliments on.
To Deadwood and other interested parties Lachie's model of the Maid of the Loch can be viewed at

Lachie and I often sail at this location, a wonderful backdrop to any model boat.

Hi smart ship, I am looking to make pharos in1/48 to go with my THV beacon, could you give us an idea were you got the plans from
thanks
-
Lachie got his plans direct from the builder, Ferguson's. He has lots of photographs of the full size which he took during building of the vessel. If you decide to go ahead I will ask him if he is amenable tp the pictures being scanned and posted on MBM.
