Mayhem is an enthusiast site not a freebie site to promote your ebay sales.

Just a reminder chaps, you are not allowed to boost your own eBay sales here on Mayhem.
( or ask someone else to post it here either! )

....... if I'm in a bad mood, you may get your Mayhem account suspended for a couple of weeks.  <*<

judging from close inspection on the Slipway at Fleetwood docks, he would be lucky to get it to the other side of the docks at the moment from what I see of the wind whistling through the pin prick holes in the plating, But I suppose at 70 years old, she's had a long and hard life.

is this a modified lifeboat hull.

The stern around the rudder looks odd but could it be made into a single screw lifeboat.

Were there any single screw lifeboats of 44' long.

No lifeboats had a bulb on the bow.

Post by: BFSMP on May 26, 2016, 07:49:51 PM
think that has been added with filler as an afterthought. ned.

but the stern looks very much like the stern of neil's lifeboats with the undercut from the stern post.

it is hard to see though whether there is a tunnel at the stern.

Jim.

A tunnel each side of the skeg would be OK
Well overpriced whatever it is.

Post by: BFSMP on May 26, 2016, 08:07:03 PM
I was looking at neil's build of the William and Laura and that had the single tunnel split by the propeller skeg, and just wondering if this model would make into a similar boat, not that I would ever be capable of doing so.

ROYAL NAVY LIFEBOAT indeed.............when was the RNLI ever part of the RN. the only time the royal navy were ever involved with the RNLI  was when their officers took over as harbour masters during WW2 and would give permission for the harbour booms to be lifted allowing lifeboats to launch.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BILLING-BOATS-ROYAL-NAVY-LIFEBOAT-101-SCALE-1-40-BNIB-/371647625595?hash=item5687ecb97b:g:8-4AAOSwU0RXHlsa

I think someone should take Billing to task.

I don't think it mentions the RNLI, does it? So perhaps it's a lifeboat for a Royal Navy warship?

Billings are a Danish company. One may assume that the 'RN' in 'RNLI' they took to be Royal Navy. Unlikely that any mis-application was intended.

Clearly shown here as a Waveney.  http://www.hobbypoint.fi/the_beginner

Hi,

I sent an email to Billings after looking on their website where it lists the boat as a ROYAL NAVY LIFEBOAT.

Their reply:

In our instructions and on our website we clearly indicate that the vessel is a R.N.L.I. Lifeboat

“10 boats of this type - 44-foot vessels - were sent to England from the USA. After minor reconstruction work to make
the boats more suitable for English conditions, the vessels have since served various locations along the English coast,
operated under the auspices of the R.N.L.I. (Royal Naval Lifeboat Institution).”

well, they got all of that wrong then.

only one US Coast Guard 44' Surf boat was sent over, and it was never numbered but nicknamed "The Yank"

All the other boats, named after the river Waveney that served the RNLI, [ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION] were built in BritaIn, many at Brooke Marine, Lowestoft.

Hi BFSMP,

Your information agrees with my research on the vessel.

I sent the information to Billings but have not yet had a reply.

My reason for emailing Billings is that I and many others use the information supplied by the manufacturer to go with the model at a Boat Show.

finally found an untouched Glasgow kit on ebay !
But too many kits/too little time left to do anything with it !
Currently just over the £100 mark with 2 days to go, but proceeds are going to an aged concern type organisation.
Anyone interested, have a look then ask me for my paddle wheel set lol.

It needs a repaint and a couple of minor cracks repairing, but these are not urgent issues.

Not the words you need to see about a submarine.

GRAUPNER PEGASUS -  the only kit I was unable to finish due to, in my opinion, the poor quality of of an expensive kit, plans errors,  construction method ..... and the designers insidious attitude to the end builder!

I built this actual model to this stage and gave up the will to live!
The owner has also obviously given up on it too!

I never will understand why sellers put items on with a reserve, you pay extra for that privilege, just put the starting price at the lowest they will accept....

Hi all just noticed this.

For sale at £600 and the seller says it is scratch built!  Very unlikely as I recognize the flat stanchions that are with the fittings of the Billings kit.  The build quality is not good.  All electrics taken out!  Not much of a bargain as there is another working one at £180. also on ebay.

That's because he has included the cost of postage into his price, so when the postage goes up, so does his price.

Hi All, there is a Bassett lowke 1466 Marine electric motor as the drive unit.  A nice one of those went for around £200 on ebay a year ago.  I have one in use now and it runs very nicely in my Sea Jay copy.  It would chug along but no great speed, I think it is a motor gun boat not ASRL.  The mighty midget was used in several different rudder actuators, but nice to see.

I must say, I love unusual ships, and that is unusual...………. and I like that one...……..remember seeing the plans of it in one of the model magazines some years ago, and liked it then. O0 O0 :-))

... it must need two or three hundredweight of lead to get that down to the waterline!

Hi there are 2 sets of plans available for the Monitor.  One is a very simple one and the other I think from David Metcalf and was spread over several magazine issues.  The wide excrescence (for buoyancy) around the ship is at water level so that it was an early (1915) shallow draft  'Litoral' ship used for shore bombardment.  The class can differ with the numbers depending which big gun was available and I think they were 7000 tons or so and travelled very slowly about 7 knots.  If anyone has better knowledge feel free to correct me.
