INTERNATIONAL MODEL BOAT SHOW – Friday 8th to Sunday 10th November 2013.
The International Model Boat Show will be setting sail at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, near Leamington Spa, from 8th – 10th November 2013. Visitors are guaranteed a packed hall with over 600 models on the club and society displays, demonstrations plus attendance by leading specialist suppliers. Over 3000 visitors are expected to attend the show which is now regarded as one of the premier model boat show in the UK.
There are 31 confirmed clubs, societies and demonstrations attending this unique exhibition, including 5 new clubs, with some of the finest marine models on show. The prestigious ‘Society Shield’, which is voted for by the clubs and societies themselves, will again be awarded to the best club display in the show.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase whatever they need from the vast range of products offered by the comprehensive selection of over 20 specialist suppliers, everything from a single anchor to an entire kit.
This year’s show will celebrate the 175th anniversary of the SS Sirius Steamship and the SS Great Western crossing the Atlantic. Although the term ‘Blue Riband’ was not coined until years later, Sirius is often credited as the first winner at 8.03 knots (14.87 km/h). However, Sirius only held the record for a day because Great Western's voyage was faster at 8.66 knots (16.04 km/h). Great Western departed Avonmouth four days after Sirius and still came within a day of overtaking her. To mark this achievement Gloucester and District Model Boat Club member Bob Hinton will be displaying his 1/64th scale model of the model of the Great Western at the show along with pictures and drawings in a Brunel display. SS Great Western is described as one of the Three Great Ships of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and was the first steamship to make regular transatlantic crossings in 1838. Dr Marcus Rooks will also be displaying his Great Western motorised airfix model.
As the ONLY 3 day marine modelling exhibition dedicated to all aspects of marine modelling this is an event not to be missed – book your tickets NOW to take advantage of the specially discounted rates which is only available until 31st October (see www.modelboatshow.co.uk or call 01926 614101 to order). Hi Everyone,
We are getting close to the show now so here's a little prompt for you all. I'm pool manager again this year (as well as providing the PA system) and some of you may recall that in 2012 we allocated a slot to unusual vessels ..... in fact anything that was wacky, weird, unique or good for a laugh. This slot ended up being referred to as "Steve's speciality slot". I'm really keen to do this again this year, therefore, if you have anything on your stand that fits this loose description then we'd love to see it on the pool.
Hey, Stavros, how about your 'Baby' themed vessel that you had at Wicksteed. Maybe this time with a real Baby !!!!!
Look forward to seeing you all at poolside.
Steve Dean
-
OH dear me what can I say well when Mrs Stav read this I can not possibly comment on what she said BUT one comment was Well I suppose we could go down..................AT least I would have a slot on the itenarry and use the pool....AS A BIRTHING POOL O0 O0 O0 O0 {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)
Well that would defo go down as Steve's SPECIAL SLOT wouldn't it..........Also with only a week to go to Kelly giving birth we wont be there BUT if it comes early we MIGHT just well make it Pram in Hand with L plates on it.........At least this year I could create havoc with a Pram and not a boat and that would be a novelty
Dave
-
If Del-Boy puts a boat on the water that will be a "speciality slot". :} :}
-
Hi Paul,
I saw Del at the Midlands ME show today ..... he shocked me by telling me that you have been downsizing the fleet. Steady on old chap this is not good news.
'STEVE'S SPECIALITY SLOT'
Latest up-date on the Speciality Slot ........ the Knightcote MBC have a fleet of tiny little boats called Diana's and an exquisite little Huntsman in 1/48 scale (these will be on sale at the show from Speedline) and today I've agreed with them to get as many of their members as possible to put these boats on the pool. Adrian of Speedline showed me a Huntsman with twin very small brushless motors and Lipo cells ..... it's a real
cutie !
Let's hear from more you.
Cheers
Steve
-
Hey Steve
I've got some mini straight runners, I could cause a bit of havoc with those.
Had Del on my stand at the ME helping me out....will he come over to the dark side of straight running.......well from what he was muttering when he left....I don't think so.. {-) {-)
-
Hi Steve
Whilst maybe not directly related to the Steve's Speciality Slot in the way of wacky and weird but me and my Dad would like to display our unusually large (7ft 3in long) and very different looking model of an Insect class river gunboat called HMS Gnat on the water this year- I've been practicing and considering the size of the model I can get her to do some pretty amazing turns at slow speeds, only problem is that nobody else should use the water whilst we are on- not because of the size of the Gnat but because I won't be very happy if anyone runs into my very exposed rudders (it's bad enough when I run into them! :embarrassed: ). Fingers crossed she will look the part on the pool this year! :-))
-
High Nick,
Thanks for your message. I'm sure we all would love to see your model on the water. It would be no problem to fix you a slot to have the pool to yourself .... we did this for Paul Chilcot last year we his stunning model of the turbine powered FinnJet. Come and see me at poolside first thing on Friday morning and we'll work something out.
Look forward to meeting you.
Cheers
Steve
-
Nick, your boat would make the perfect straight runner ( I told you so)
In that case Steve...I have this steam straight runner......oh well maybe not.....
{:-{
-
i hope you have some new £20 notes ready phil :-)) were all after them this year {-)
-
Thanks Steve- see you bright and early on Friday morning
Hi Phil- have seen my Dad's latest project? He has decided that if it doesn't turn it will become a straight runner! O0 {-) It's 7.5ft long monster but only 7.5inches wide and deep!
See you all there, not long now to wait, I have booked my leave well in advance, not missing it this year for anyone or anything- even penguins! :-))
-
Getting closer now, on my stand will be SteamBoat Apprentice's award winning boat, which she did do all by herself......and keeps beating me......might get nudged off stand... come and have a look, its a thing of beauty........lots of other thing to see to. BTW if you want me I will be at Macs Mouldings as I need bits for S/Aprrentice's fishing boat (she told me) and not being shown up by her boat (tea on me Martin) O0 O0
-
Sadly,I have decided not to attend this year, even though I enjoyed it so much last year.My dear wife who is my driver and who has taken me all over the country this year fundraising for the RNLI, and I have decided its a "bridge too far" for us.
As the theme this year seems to be the Blue Riband,I was hoping to bring my newly acquired model of the Cunard Liner "Queen Mary"
which has various operating features.Sadly I was too late to get a space, but hopefully next year!
Of course this means there will NOT be any Lemon Curd Sponge this year either! YUMMIE,MORE FOR ME!
Mick F
-
not long to go now ... us boys from west wales model boats will be there with our boats on show ... come over and say hi . would be nice to put some faces to names !
-
You lot keep away from Chris's sheep! He wont be happy if you defile them!
-
Hi Ian and Ray,
I will be there on Saturday to get all my bits see you there.
John
-
Hi Guys,
I am sorry to let you all down this year but due to my ill health, I won't be at the Show. <:( So Phil, your £20 note is safe from me again - damn!! :-))
To all of my loyal customers that came and purchased at my stand in previous years, I say 'Pick up the phone and spend your hard earned cash with me' You know it makes sense. I may not be there in person but I will be thinking of you all. It will be the first one I have missed since the show started but my Cherry says it will be nice to be at home in the warm and watch the telly.
A message to the people that take over my stand space next to Martin, be good and treat your customers with the care they deserve, they are important. O0 But, If they are not good to you then give them a good clout round the ear and send them packing to Ron Dean. {-)
Best regards
Graham
-
Don't worry Graham there are others who have there eyes on my (now rare and seldom seen) £20. Will miss seeing you there, all the best
:-))
-
Hi All,
looking forward to going me and a few lads from barry model boat club will be there on the sunday, hoping to bump into a few mayhem members, put a few names to faces and catch up have a chat with a few people.
Also get stocked up with lots of goodies for winter projects! %% %%
See u all there :-))
Cheers Dave
WW.

All the tea is on Steamboat Phil this year as Graham is not there to take the £20 note so it has been decreed that Phil Buys ALL THE TEA
Dave
-
Argh now Stav, I have a tale of great woe...read on dear Mayhemers......
I have just had some major dental surgery, this has left me....how can I put it...oh yes :embarrassed:
having to remain a little silent, due mainly to the fact that my new bacon choppers did not fit <:(
this means lots of tea purchased by sympathetic mayhemers who will not be singing "all I want for xmas is my two front teeth" (and the rest of them for that matter).
So unless I can make myself a set before Friday no sentences will have an "S" in. Still plenty of time for me to learn a few bits of sign language...and soup for dinner it seems (again)

Brian
-
Where do I sign up for the free tea and coffee ?? ;)
-
Steam boat phil or martin, then again graham from kinglear model boat club a nice chap as well
-
At last my promotion to tea boy is confirmed :-)
Have started to dust off the boats ready for the exhibition, putting a shopping list together, and trying to work out how to hide my £20 from certain members of the trade {-) {-)
-
Milk 2 sugars in mine .......................................DARN and blast i wont be there will i...............................TRADERS take note Phil allways hides his £20 note in his left hand pocket.
Oh what a shame Phil wont be able to have his full english brekki let alone the superb steak and kidney pie this year ......maybee spmeone should take him a liquidiser
Stav.
-
phil send me the dimensions, i'll make you some new teeth for next friday,
they may be red yellow and blue, but you will be able to eat bacon sandwiches at least......
-
Phil, You could put a prop on your new red & yellow teeth and enter them in 'Steve's Speciality Slot'. That's of course if you can Lego of them !!!!
So it's tea all round, plus cakes from Debs. Perhaps we should spend the illusive £20 note on ice creams. Guy and I would like one of those with a big chocolate flake ….. ta very much.
Steve.
-
Build up all done, lots of good models this year. They have changed the tables sizes, which has thrown a few clubs, as their space is smaller, last seen: Graham and the King Lear club building up ! O0 looks like a small Chitin Itza.. {-) Steve has made his nest by the pool, and this year there are a few bouys for you to hit (or miss) %% , I am by between Ron Dean and the Vintage Model Boat Company....safety of my £20 not looking good.. <:(
Managed tea (of course) they were offering free chocolate bars....yeah like that works, I would have to suck it death.....thinking of asking Martin from Macs Mouldings to resin cast me a set, at least I might be able to sample the Steak & Kindney pie..... :embarrassed:
And I forgot my hat !!!! >>:-( so was not reconised for several hours (beard did not help...will be clean shaven tomorrow) ok2
-
Certainly confused us with the new table and club positions, we were panicking because we couldn't find our stand until we asked!
We only managed to spot Phil because of his 4x4 battle wagon parked outside with a strange beardy man pointing to his mouth and saying that he was fed up with soup! {-)
Tried to see the fabled £20 note but he has hidden it further, no longer in his left hand pocket! {-)
Got a little present for him tomorrow but only if he's good!
Wicksteed park stand up and running, waiting for tomorrow's onslaught... :-))
-
OH Patric or is it Phil right then this is simples really get 1 mug of tea and DUNK the choccy biccy in the tea to SOFTEN it....or in YOUR case fire up a steam plant....if anyone askes .....just tell them it's for demo purposes and place choccy bar on top of it ...................SIMPLES when you apply LOGIC
...................................MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM WISH I WAS THERE.....THINKS ME GOT IT WRONG AGAIN
And specially for Dave Milbs...............no sign of Patter patter patter YET
Dave
-
Well blow me the Boat show was mentioned on BBC Radio 2 more than once today ......wish I was there
Dave
-
We need the piccies from you lucky lot that
managed to get there :-))
Ned
-
Hope to get there tomorrow (Sat) - is the parking area passable?
Colin
-
The parking area was passable until this last lot of rain, now not so good. I left at 15.00 and it was pretty soggy.
Brian
-
Just arrived back from the show. Parking area was passable when leaving but the rain was pouring down and the parking area was getting a little boggie. If the rain kept going after we left (around 3pm), and continues into the night then I'm glad I decided to take a day off work to go today!! It may well be a bit of a quagmire tomorrow.
Show was very good with a good turnout from clubs and traders alike and some nice models on show.
Only a couple of annoying asides - the biggest irritant being the sound trader with the incessant duck quack quack sound module next to Dave Metcalfe's stand. Never been a supporter of shooting ducks. I am now! Bit of a chore to have a discussion about buying a boat when all you can hear is QUACK QUACK. >:-o
Sorry didn't take any pics too busy admiring some folks models and spending the wallet contents. Which are all gone now.
:((
-
just got back from day one of the show..... the car park is ok, but the rain was coming down as we left, it may be abit boggy if it keeps going all night....
lots of interesting club displays, the Manx club display was very good !- there was some interesting new models on show,
there was bloke in a very bright shirt taking lots of photos...... and there seemed to be a fair amount of business being done on the trade stands....so i think everyone had a good first day.....
missed the welsh womble, and slipway and hunters, and ray malone ... its not the same without you guys.....
going back tomorrow for a slice of deb's cake and to spend some money which i didnt do today due to too much talking !
-
Great show, only got about quarter way round but met up with loads a great Mayhemers & friend! Special thanks to the integral meeting of Mayhem at Wicksteed 2014 committee.... in case you were wondering what we were conspiring about.
Car park soggy but holding up very well, roadways not muddy, even shoes clean.
Lots of different boats on show, didn't get near pool but I hear lots of action!
Yes I have loads of photos but I only brought tablet so nearly impossible to transfer photos from camera to Mayhem.... :(( plus really crap WiFi in hotel. >:-o
See you there again tomorrow.
-
Yes you were missed Stavros + 1.... 2?!
NB. See Speedline stand, very impressive!
-
Hey Martin,
when you finish wuffin down your breakfast tomorrow, please take a couple? of photos of the L.B.E.S. stand,as I cant make it this year, and the guys wont be getting any Lemon curd sponge cake.

Another great day at the show, Ivan from the Vintange Model Boat Company managed to extract several £20 notes from me (well a lot) as did Mr Milbourn and componant shop, but the good news is they were all fake and the real one is still with me, although Mr Dean keeps looking at me....... O0

Thanks for the video Martin, we promise to do better with the banners next year! When we turned up we found we had a stand much larger than we had bargained for so Auntie Maureen had to scuttle around on the friday to get three more matching blue sheets to complete the display, it all worked out fine and from our point of view it was the best show that we can remember and possibly the best at Warwick that I have been to and I do the model engineering show and the model railway show as well so in all around 24shows in the last 8 years. The atmosphere was brilliant throughout the weekend especially on Sunday after the 2 min silence with the appearance of "Kitty Mew" and of course Phil taking delivery of his new straight runner, donated by the Wicksteed club to regain his supremacy in straight line running.
No doute Nick will be posting soon and I know we were all knackerd but happy as we sunk a pint of Wooky on the way home last night..

A BIG THANK YOU
To all the Clubs and individuals who took part in the pool demonstrations over the three days of the show I would like to extend a very big 'thank you'. Sometimes it gets tight on time and complex to co-ordinate all the activities and without your understanding and co-operation it wouldn't be possible. Even people who had 'seen it all before' were very complimentary and as for the 'Speciality Slot' …… well what can I say. Fantastic is the word that comes to mind …. tiny boats, huge boats, hovercraft, James Bond and the sound of the Finn Jet. Rapid quick fire change overs and action all the way with big crowds round the pool.
Well done everyone.
Steve Dean. Pool Master and commentator.

Hello everyone!!!
Just spent most of last night and all of today to this very minute putting our boats away, well, I lie, we left them in the van and had a massive tidy up of the boat shed!
Surprising what we found, or should I say re-discovered, mainly some lead ballast Dad was eying up until I remembered what it was for! ok2
Well, what else can I add, what a fantastic show! :-))
I think I met a lot of the Mayhemers who came to the show, to name a few
TailUK
Steve Dean
Capt Podge
Martin (of course, you can't miss that shirt!)
Bikerdude999
ian-mccaffrey

BillD203
SteamboatPhil
Steamboat's Apprentice
Klunk
Kim
Chuffy… and many more
I think I must have bought Simon of Prop shop entire supply of props, or it felt like it! At least I won't be worrying about props for anytime soon.
I must thank Steve Dean for allowing me to display my HMS Gnat on the pool during his Speciality Slot, it was a thoroughly enjoyable time on the water and hope to continue next year with another project.
There was certainly a huge amount of new boats on display, and to echo many other members on the forum, it was the best show at Warwick I have ever displayed with. Apart from the initial shock of not being able to find our stand on Thursday afternoon, and seeing Phil without his teeth and hat :D we had no problems setting up and hope next year is as easy.
I would also like to add thanks to Meridienne Exhibitions for organising the show, everything from my point of view went like clockwork, so a very well deserved thank you to Chris and his team for setting up the show.
As for pictures they are currently downloading on to my computer and as soon as it is complete I will put them onto the forum.
Oh, and of course, we missed you Stavros and Mrs Stav! :-))

May I through this post thank all those Clubs and Societies that were at Warwick IMBS 2013 for their support and their vote in giving the Manx Model Boat Club best in show for their display. It was our first showing at Warwick, and was so much fun that we'll be hard pressed to find reasons not to return.
Thank you all for your interest in our wares, next year we hope to have some more novel "floaters" for you.
Thanks again, Kim PR for the Manx Model Boat Club
Cheers Neil, now get them hulls built!!
