I think we need to wait for Martin to confirm whether we keep the usual dates or it gets moved to either an earlier or later date to prevent interference of interests between us and Beale. I'm sure we can work something out, but the show will happen I'm sure of it! :-))

Nick i don't see why Mayhem needs to move their date. it has for a long time now been on the Bank hol weekend. The Scottish lads like it as it give them time to travel back on the BH monday. If its a week later I can't go due to a VERY long standing booking and that weekend is normally Alford weekend.

I would agree, Beale park has moved their show around various dates, canceled it all the time mayhem had kept the same dates. If mayhem goes ahead then I think it should be the same date unless the organisers need to move it, not because of Beale park.... Just my thoughts  :-))

The entire model boating lake area and the new amphitheatre will be fenced off with wooden post and rail fencing before Mayhem, most of it is complete to date with the metal railway fencing being replaced during the Autumn, so no vehicular access from the public areas to the lake areas. The club car park remains as is so no further to carry boats than before. There are three self closing gates for pedestrian access.

All the hedges have gone and the whole area has been opened up and quite nice it is too. As a club we have already noticed a greater foot-fall around the boating lake and an increased interest from the general public and youngsters of all ages. And can you believe it, some established residents of Kettering didn't even know there was a model boating lake there. Can't be a bad thing for the hobby.

Paul.

Blind Steering possibly, with this refinement - team of two drivers, one blindfolded facing away from pool handling control, the other facing pool giving verbal directions?
Mini straight running for models less than 24 inches long?

It is easy to get this backwards, so I thought I would mention, that
the person facing the pool is the boats owner and regular handler, and
the person facing away from the pool is handling the transmitter, and may
have never driven this particular boat ever.

The reason, is that the model owner is going to be the best judge of whether the
model will need more or less speed, or more or less rudder as the "bosun" handles the controls.

 ;)

We also found that the second  person doesn't even need to be
blindfolded, just sat down facing away from the pond.  :-)

Title: Re: Activities at Mayhem 2015
Post by: Umi_Ryuzuki on October 11, 2014, 10:58:08 pm
you've tried it, then?

Yeah we found Blind Conning quite easy.
It is really up to the "bosun", the person not facing the pond, to decide what is
50% throttle, and 15° right rudder, when you call out commands.
It is then up to the Skipper, the one facing the pond to decide if he needs more or less
speed, or rudder, and to call for such during maneuvers.

We saw several people forget to call for "Rudder amidship", and have boats driving circles.
And our first course was just a Square marked course, and then docking. Once everyone in
the club had seen the event run there were no shy members to the challenge. However, that
first square course and docking event, absolutely no one stepped forward to try it till I and the
other person that set up the event ran it with first me as the blind bosun, and then him as the blind bosun.

This type of conning also allows for a "Command Count" judging.
Where you count the number of commands given to the bosun to complete the course and docking.
We had a course that would take 35 commands to steer, plus docking commands.
In all the time we ran that course no one broke below 62 commands. The highest count was 235

You could do a take on top gear's reasonably priced car. Take one rtf seaport  or such like and each person does a timed run on the steering course.

I like the sound of the suggestions so far, I've got one I'm in the process of sorting out something (to see if it's practical in the way of mechanics!) for the Victorian fleet review. Might be worth it but I'll let you know when it works! %)

I'll upload some pictures when I get back from holiday of the almost complete amphitheatre and model boat surrounds.

This would mean 'new builds' in a lot of cases, but what about a speed run for elastic powered boats? Go back to basics, where some of us started.
Title: Re: Activities at Mayhem 2015
Post by: Bill D203 on October 13, 2014, 06:37:08 pm
How about what we do normally.
ignore the plan and enjoy ourselves just like we always do. oh and after the days boating maybe a little drinky.
OK what about a night sail with the BBQ lakeside like we did a few years back. Then Ian could get his wizz bangs out.

Club 500 races would be good with knock out rounds so only the best boats will make it to the final Heat.

Post by: raflaunches on October 13, 2014, 06:46:17 pm
I like the idea of elastic band powered boats, they could also double up as straight runners too.
Bill we'll do the normal things just add a few extra bits for something different after all who could forget the springer battle of 2008! Those little sods who knocked my power leads off and towed my springer tug out into the middle of the lake and finished the game of football with out me! %% {-)

Too early to be certain but I could bring Canopus and Lord Nelson again. Any other takers?

What about another Victorian Battleship review? How many can we get this time with perhaps some proper formation sailing if the wind isn't hurricane strength like last time!

Too early to be certain but I could bring Canopus and Lord Nelson again. Any other takers?

Cheers

Geoff

Yes please, I'm joining in with my hopefully soon to be complete HMS Prince George (well almost!!!). :-))
If we can get more for next year it'll look spectacular, my dad is sorting out a proposed device for holding the ships in a formation until we are ready to sail away.

On another note I'm in the process of designing a straight runner and building it over X-mas- so here is a challenge to all out there- once we've finished finalising the design, who wants to challenge me to a game of straight running with Phil? Further info when we finalise everything.
I think the crazier the better- like the springers we all built all those years ago! :}

Oh and I'm re-arming my springer in preparation for the proposed football match/tug of war- all I'm going to say is 'Players Ready...Robots ready...Fight!!!'. %)

Have you guys considered some "how to masterclasses"?

I notice from the list of usual suspects ahem attendes, there are several members with high levels of skills in several areas.

For example Stavros could do a practical demonstration on filling and painting and another could do one on electronics, soldering etc.

2012 Warwick show.
I was doing some modelling and trying to be clever, was talking to a member of the public at the same time about the Hachette Bismarck on our stand (its my model!). Well as I was cutting the styrene, my hand slipped, and the inevitable happened. I cut through the top of my finger, quite deeply. I staunched the blood with some cloth and went to the toilet to rinse under the tap. The bleeding stopped, I wrapped it in toilet roll, and proceeded to go find the first aid station. On the way i stopped at Blackheath stand, where Stavros was yakking. I said some pleasantries and walked up to the girl on the door. held up my finger to show the makeshift bandage, At this moment Stavros ran up hit my finger so he could take a picture of my finger which was now pooring with blood again and the poor girl nearly feinted! Stavros got the picture he wanted though!
In 2013 a few weeks before Warwick, our club received a lovely letter from the organisers about the event, in it was a paragraph from Chris at Meridienne asking that a certain member of the club not be allowed to model with any sharp objects!!!

Just a thought Nick ……. you had in interesting vessel in my 'Speciality Slot' at the International Model Boat Show a few weeks ago ….. how about we drop bombs on it !!!!!

Being serious for a mo well ……. I do like the idea of a mass sailing session at an agreed time …… it would look great for the camera's. Or what about a massive towing session ……. has anyone got a very powerful tug that we could attach increasing numbers of boats to and watch it pull them along like a huge boating snake.

Or being completely radical ….. how about some sunshine and calm weather. Yeah, ok don't shout I know I'm dreaming.
Steve.

Hi Everyone …… just thinking out loud here. If we go for a mass sailing session just be mindful that around 40 models on 2.4ghz is about the max before interference is a possibility, especially for el cheapo sets. We need some folk to be on 27 and 40Mhz.

Last night I posted a note up the chimney to santa man with Martin's name on it asking for a glorious weather in May. Ho, Ho, Ho  %%

Happy new year to all of you. It's blowing a real hoolie here in Northants today ….. is this the May weather arriving early ?????

The long range weather pundits are saying that this year will be hotter than 2014. If it ain't good in May then we should spit-roast everyone at the met office.

Hope you all had a good christmas and the man in red delivered lots of nice shiny boat bits (or at least you told the domestic manager thats where they came from)!

Fantastic news - we've just been told our Holiday due to depart on the 23rd of May has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

This means that I can finally come back to Mayhem at Wicksteed after missing it since 2011!

Never been so happy to have a holiday cancelled. Best start getting a few boats ready, the only one seaworthy at the moment is the same one I took in 2010 and that just won't do.

Very excited.

I take my caravan to Mayhem weekend. You need to book in with the park. (Wicksteed park )  We normally get a area on the park campsite just for the Mayhem crew. There are toilets on site with showers however there is not (unless they have fitted it over winter) Lecky hook up.
What you need to bring is some a scene of humor oh and a bottle of something nice to drink.
We always have as much fun in the eve as we do during the daytime. Come and enjoy yourself. :-))

Bottles of home brew are always stored under the bed  %%  i think I can dig out my sense of humor... Think it was last under the pillar drill but not sure {-) {-)

Important note  for staying at mayhem.
1 everything is fair game.
2 your tent/caravan is never safe.
3 pictures will be taken and published
4 what's done at mayhem, stays at mayhem
5 Saturday night is bbq night. Bring food and beer and humour
6 the weather is what it is. We don't care
7 be respectful of others. You may need them to put up or take down your abode
8 have fun and smile
9 if it's raining and no one is around, we are all in the toilets staying warm
10 remember where your staying. Falling in bushes and ditches hurts and someone will be around with a camera.
11 if a drink is offered it's bad manners to refuse.
12 when you get up in the morning someone will be ready with a camera
13 take notice of all signs. Dire consequences await people who dont
14 hats are a must. The sillier the better
15 mayhem is about fun and model boats. The rest just follows
16 be prepared to try deep fried haggis and deep fried black pudding.

1 keg for each of the Scottish Contingent minimum!

You have no idea how much is consumed over this week end. Ask Ian MacCaffery.

Yes but you have got to get a motor on the keg 1st. Then you have to get the keg between the center posts.

I've been asked by Wicksteed Park how many tents and caravans we intend to have in our area so they can cordon off an appropriate sized area for us down in the lower field closest to the lake. Don't need to know number of people just tents and caravans so either PM me or reply on this thread and I'll add them up and add a few for those who'll turn up late.

I remember a certain year when Phils gazebo went flying backwards into the lake. Mite windy that day. Or as we were putting up said tent, someones wife filmed me with her husband on my shoulders putting the ridge pole back together.
Or a certain bottle of mead consumed by the Scottish Contingent.
Grass straight running
 a table being cremated
Caterpillar races
someone cuddling their ligther in their sleep
who did fall over by the cars last year?
silly hats
tombola stall
Carrying a certain young lad accross the pond
Phil rescuing a boat without remembering to put his waders on
Seeing the Scottish Contingent FRYING UP AT 12   on Sunday lunchtime still hungover
Freezing my socks off as it was SOOOOOOOOO cold one year! (PS I was camping in a tent!)
vertical mist
chasing a duckling around a lake!
Getting John D to accept a drink (He doesnt Drink)
Getting Ian to stop drinking!
Pyrotechnics!!!

You know last year we had a bit of a pyrotechnic display by our own Guy Fawkes  ( Ian C ),
We thinking of doing another one this year.

Standard & Brocks fireworks ain't cheap, how do we feel about a whip-round ( roundly whipped!) to raise some money for some more bangs, whizzes and Ooooes?!

Listen to Stavros lads.
Apart from being thrown out, including the resident club
(Guilty by association)
one stray pyrotechnic  could result in a not so little insurance claim.
If Ian's pyros are allowed on the lake as last year all well and good.
but a Barbecue with bangers of the wrong sort is a no no.

thats a little bit pot calling the kettle black . seeing as it was MRS STAV who asked me for some " pretty's " ( fireworks )  for the little un !  ..

and for anyone who thinks that im just an idiot who wants to blow things up . then you are mistaken . .. im actually one of the highest ranked pyrotechnicians in the uk . who does firework displays for a living on much bigger budgets than what was set out for wicksteed .

if the answer was yes then there would of been permission from the park . site visits . safety distances set out .. and also £10 million  ... yes TEN MILLION pounds worth of public liability insurance  in place !

and happy faces on a load of people !

but if you are hell bent on not having one . thats fine with me ... i dont want to upset anyone !  . just thought it would be a nice change and a nice ending to an amazing weekend !

Hi Lads

I just thought I would say something since I'm the liaison between the Mayhem forum and Wicksteed Park.

Both sides of the arguement are valid...

As Stavros says the park forbids the use of fireworks in the park- and quite rightly so to prevent just anyone setting off a private display in the parks ground which would disturb not only the neighbours of the park and general public and the campers using the park- but we do have permission to use a pyro display that was similiar to last years model boat battle scene.

On the other hand, as Ian says he has the insurance and certificates and experience to put on a much bigger show (thats not in any doubt) but it would need as he says too the parks permission to do so. Thats something he is better at organising that I would but considering that its only 3 months away to the show so its something we may have to plan for in 2016. The biggest problem is getting permission from the local council with regards to fire regs, etc.

Don't want members who are friends falling out over this.

On another note, thanks to everyone so far for the tents and caravan count.

ATB

All being well, I fully intend to be there this year.

Few questions:

(a) what's the disabled access like? I need to park near to the water because I don't walk/breathe too good, and the Akula is bl**dy heavy.
(b) can I bring my Akula with operational torpedoes?
(c) can I bring my ladyfriend? (she doesn't do cooking, but she can(will)show a few of you a clean pair of heels when it comes to sinking a bottle or six of red wine).
(d) can I bring my Motaflote? (if it's finished)
(e) can I bring a few cans of Stella(Cidre, of course...)and a cask of red wine for the ladyfriend.

rich disabled access is great. It's all flat. With parking close to the pond. Bring a wheelchair. I'll happily push you.
Akula is fine. Don't know about the torpedoes tho. And I'll help you get it in the water mate.
Bring who you like.

Aww, thanks guys...I'm not that bad that I need a wheelchair just yet, but walking with a stick with an Akula under the other arm is a bit dodgy, and the ladyfriend would be able to carry it, even if I thrashed her... %)

We'll be moored up in a TravelLodge I guess, that's her department, not mine...I just pay the bill.   :embarrassed:

There will be a Victorian Fleet review again, we'll all try to get there for one of the days to get the most on the water.

So come on Victorian sailors get your battleships, cruisers and TBDs out there once again :-))
HMS Prince George will be joining them this year!

And we want to see members having a go at beating Phil on the Straight Running, its not difficult I'm told! :D

Post by: raflaunches on April 07, 2015, 10:45:30 am
Right ladies and gentlemen, not long now before the big weekend! Hooray! :-))

Some updates...

This year I have been asked by Martin if I'd run the steering competition that usually operates from the wooden quay to the windsock in the lake, and from the suggestions from other organisers we will have a special section for those feeling brave enough! A blind-man steering competition! You choose your mate to guide your boat around whilst you are blind folded. A simple timed event and the best time wins.

All Mayhemers who have a Victorian/Edwardian era warship are invited to bring them along for a second year to get as many turn-of-the-century warships on the water as last year it was spectacular.

There will be a tombola run by the Wicksteed Park MBC secretary, Maureen, loads of prizes to be won, I know that there was a battle several years ago between two Mayhemers to win the KGV Tamiya kit- wasn't there Klunk!

As usual for those interested there will be a Bring and Buy sale hosted by two members of WPMBC, speak to them on the day and tell them what you want to sell it for and they'll do their best for you for 10%.

Best Photo of the weekend- so bring your cameras

Night Sailing- bring your lights!

Meet Martin and family in the Mayhem tent for Tea and Coffee with biscuits- bring some money!

Loudest shirt competition!!! I jest- we all know Martin wins this! :}

Springer Wars- I will have my revenge from the second Mayhem year when I was knocked out by the opposing team when I was rammed and my battery lead fell off!
Springer Tug-of-war, and Springer football will hopefully make a come back this year with Springer Tugs.

Saturday night BBQ

Free sailing

Warship sailing

Yacht Sailing

Tug sailing

Vintage Sailing

Straight running sailing

Plastic magic sailing

Sailing, sailing, sailing...!!! %%

Come along and enjoy yourselves.

ok, Bad bad news. Today I went to pick the wife up from Heathrow, and on the way back the radiator on the car gave up the ghost, also as no indicator light came on the dash board it looks like ive totally done the engine in!! Tapping sounds coming from the engine means the bearings are shot, maybe the big ends as well. Looks like a new engine that I just cannot afford! Will be trying to get a new car this week so will keep you all informed!!

Your master tent erector guru. Know one can do it without you.

You know what we're all like.....wheres the pegs.....whats a guy rope.....ground sheet doh!.....does that go in there or what.

And then theres the Barbie.....you guys got to have the biggest inferno device ever.....longest sausages, burgers like dinner plates, chicken the size of swans. If anyone ever invents a Barbie with an oven and grill....it will be team Luton.

So heres the plan.....your about 50 mile away from Wickie......you could walk it in 10 hours, so no excuse.

See you there

Ian, I think Stav was outlining the amount of work that Klunk has done at Wicksteed historically.
Not trying to dictate what he needs to do this year.
But, having said that, believe Stav is also obliquely inferring that  Both Klunk and himself, do indeed do a huge amount of work to have the event run smoothly for all the attendies. Now, with Stav not being able to attend, who is stepping into his shoes to help out.
And should Klunk also not make it, Heaven forbid that eventuallity, then who is also going to cover all the other jobs he does, this year.
Food for thought, maybe

Now now children and Mrs stav.
I will be there. In a much smaller car.
Unfortunately the bbq will have to suffer this year. Unless a wick member has a large one we could possibly borrow.  I don't mind cooking in the evening. I'm hoping Martin and family will be joining us for the bbq on the evening, as well as anyone else who wants to join us. Just bring the food and not just sausages.  If you bring foil I can do chicken breast wrapped in bacon, salmon fillets etc even fish fingers! Bring some large field mushrooms and pate and it will be stuffed mushrooms. Phil will bring the mining kebabs he buys every year.

As for the setting up etc , what Stav says is true. All this needs to done and coordinated with Martin. It's a lot of work and the Wicky members are brilliant and are truly unsung heroes. It will be all hands on deck on Friday so people will have to bear with us. Also Stav done the water retrieval with me so any takers please contact Martin.  We keep as few people as possible from entering the water. I'm sure a couple of wicky  peeps will be in the water ie Nick and no doubt Phil will try entering the water without waders again.

I'm really delighted to announce that, after a "gap" of 4 years, the missus and I will be attending the Mayhem Bash!
Having now joined the ranks of the "civilised", (I have ELECTRIC powered 'craft' and have passed through the noisy, smelly [but very exciting] stage of my life) I feel that I will be able to truly enter the spirit of Mayhem which, if I remember correctly, involves pranks, drinks, chats, drinks, food, drinks .... oh, and BOATS :)

We will be camping so I am happy to throw myself into the preparations (hang gliding with the marquee, pedalling the dynamo for the tea urn, etc)

I'm looking forward to my return, and hope that I have "models" which may bring a smile??? :)

Will be great to meet old chums (in case your memory is as bad as mine - I am the "artist" formerly known as "One Sheet)!  Boy, was 2011 a year to remember!! (the year of the Mexicans and the WILD Haggis) :)

Cheers

I know there are more nutters than me who have bought a little "Flash" racer.
http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=45810 (http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=45810)
They are such fun and, like the club 500, should be raced together (if you you get them round the course).
If you have one, please bring it along to Mayhem, I'm sure the organisers could fit in a 5 minute race for us.
(I paid £36 and think I've got great value - now they're only £24   >>:-(

For four years its been a toss up of either Mayhem or Santa Pod ... why do they have to be on the same weekend  <:( ... unfortunately Santa Pod has won this year.

However, as we will be camping down in SP I'm hoping to pop in to Wickstead on one of the days ... especially it rains.

Sorry to hear Stav and Mrs Stav not going, not sure it will be the same.

Hope you all have a good one whatever  :}

I'm sure Dave will be the first to agree that the event it's self is bigger than any one individual, of course all three Stavros's will be  missed but the show goes on. I can't think of anyone else who would spend all day up to his kinky knacky knoos on cold water just to take pics and the like, though Pete (Klunk) may well have designs on the job as he's got a dapper brown one piece and being a lot taller would not have the aforementioned problem!

More importantly, I cannot find my Ernie hat. Kindly donated by Carwash! Emptied the 3 sheds last Monday and no sign of it!!

Why do you need three sheds?

Off again.

A serious question now lads
The BBQ last year was obviously someone's. But turned out to be a communal BBQ.  Is this gonna happen again this year. As it would save some others bringing BBQ equipment.
Maybe we could just bring food and drink and all use the same bbq

Rob whose bbq cooked a lot of food last year and blazed all night keeping g us revellers warm cannot attend this year.
I now have a car but with severe capacity limitations. Indeed my 490 liter top box is bigger!
So luton cannot bring a big bbq. But if someone can I don't mind cooking.

Is the timeline for campers still the same?
1. Friday afternoon, arrive, set up personal tent/caravan/foxhole
2. Friday evening, set up tea tent, check lake is still there.
3. Later Friday evening, Fish and chip run (is this up to individuals or is there a group run?)
4. Even later Friday evening, general unmoderated natter, drinking practice, then bed

5. Saturday Mayhem, 9 to 4 ish?

6. Saturday late afternoon, put boats away, change ready for BBQ
7. Sat early evening, light BBQ's (individual??) break out alcohol, stuff face
8. Sat late evening, gather in large group, put world to rights, drink, evening sail for those who can still see boats.
9. Late evening, elderly members go to bed, rest reduce volume to jet engine equivalent and put world righter.

10. Sunday am, Get up, dress, take pictures of anything funny (many opportunities), eat, play boats.
11. Sunday afternoon, pack up, hope alcohol has cleared system, depart for home.

Does that sound about right?
Danny

Must be something about the run up to Mayhem that causes cars to break.

Took the kids to Legoland on Saturday and the Compressor for the air suspension decided to call it quits on the way home.
It's booked into the garage for Tomorrow but I'm told there's quite a lead time on the part at the moment.

I've told them I need it back by the 20th at the latest. Fingers crossed!

Do you have a Citreon TugCowboy, my C4 Picasso has an issue with its suspension. It will drop then the compressor will, kick in and the car will go up to the correct height. At the moment no one has an idea what the issue is.

Best guess is that you have a leak, some soupy water could help in your hunt for it. Get it on a lift and spray it on the houses and connections if it foams up you have found it .

Carsten

Thanks for the replies guys.

No it's a Land Rover Discovery 3.
I'm confident there's no leaks as it's been 2 days now and the height hasn't dropped at all since I cut the power to the compressor so the pressure must be constant.

No biggie as the car is 8 years old now and I do take it offroading so that long on a compressor that gets used hard is quite acceptable - just annoying it went now!

Huge amount of boat bits on order due to be fitted on Saturday as I'm busy from Sunday-Thursday.

If they don't come you guys might see a partially finished boat on the lake but nothing is going to stop us getting to Mayhem this year.
Oh darn I need to make a suitable transport case too - best pop down B&Q later.

Nasty noises coming from the RX8 today on the way home from work :(
Initial diagnosis is rear stationary bearing failure, so engine rebuild time

The full name is the rear stationary gear bearing

E2V...2500 quid for an RX8 rotary engine rebuild sounds well priced ...in OZ they charge $120.00 for one litre of engine oil for the RX8 rotational donk {-)....

Like when the owners go to the petrol station it's OK to fill the fuel tank....but if she need soil...it's up to the Bank to get an overdraft first...... >>:-( .....Derek

That's not a bad price at all, my brother in law had a 2009 RX8 R3 which he's immediately regretted selling and trying desperately to get back. Hugely fun cars.

My Disco has behaved herself impeccably since the issue last week and is starting to be loaded up with all the stuff needed Tomorrow, once I've finished the boats that is!

There are so few model boat shows within reasonable access of East Berkshire, and like a number 27 bus they all seem to come at once this year.
Going to Mayhem at Wicksteed means I have to miss Beale Park which is on at the same time.
The Alfold Charity Model Boat Show is also good event, but this year is the weekend afterwards.

That's it, apart from mainly static indoor events which IMO are not as much fun.   Why ?

Looking at the possibility of a slight shower of Northampton vertical mist at 1pm on the Sunday would the Victorian and Edwardian warship sailors like to meet up on the Saturday as the main meeting of the Victorian fleet review. Obviously I'll be there all weekend and both days are still open to us to sail and I do believe that we would have enough for two days but of we can get a lot on the Saturday it would look most impressive :-))

I was hoping that would be on the Saturday as I have no camping stuff and can only do one day.  Aiming to get to Wikki soon after 10 am.  The lake is not deep so an ROV sub-Springer rescue boat should not be needed.

Well hi there, I bet there are loads out there in Mayhem world who thought I had sunk, kidnapped by aliens, been sold at auction or at the very least blown myself up while setting fire to the petrol tank on my steam boat. Well panic not I have surfaced, escaped the alien probes, bought myself out and doused the flames to return to the weekend known as "Mayhem" (or better known as Singing in the Rain).
I and the steamboat apprentice will be arriving at the jolly old campsite Thursday eve to start the weekend rolling, a few markers for the straight running course (well bendy course) a few beers to help with the aforementioned, and a BBQ (wood fired if all does not go well with the bendy course) and a PA system so we can hear our glorious leader (whom no doubt we will be able to see given his wardrobe) and of course the most vital piece of equipment known to model boaters.......the Tea Urn.......so me heartys I shall be seeing you   :-))

Chewed my way out, which given the state of modern day plastics took a while, I knew I should have got MACs mouldings to do them, an extra item for their catalog......meanwhile have been building a new workshop in jolly old france, decorating the house and trying to find half the bits for the boats that I put somewhere safe..........
Now all I have to do is repair my waders, and given the location of the leak  {:-{ and the water depth at Wicksteed has become a bit of a priority..... O0

Only got a little camping one, hopefully someone will have one to bring with them :-))

The campsite area for us is cordoned off ready for us, so just drive right down to the main campsite field and look to your left and you'll see it.
Lake is ready for sailing on, our van is loaded up with three gazebos, banners and trollies for tomorrow's big set up, and I have found my waders so I can go for a paddle to set up the steering course and of course assist Mr Klunk and Mr Abbot with other duties!

Thank you for your discretion in not publishing the red face of Mayhemer Yours Truly having an unexpected waterline malfunction.

GREAT DAY TODAY!

First of all  Grateful Thanks to the Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club for hosting Mayhem at Wicksteed again this year.
Thanks for all your efforts and support lads & ladies, lake looks great again this year.

The promised sunshine didn't turn up but it was a lovely warm day with the slightest of breezes......
The 'gazebo flying competition' was a bit of a damp squib this year so the camping shops will be down of resells this year.
SteamboatPhil was on good form this year, shiny new gnashers and glamorous girlfriend Steph keeping them both out... in trouble!

Only one sinking this year Bob K's "H.M.S. Polyphemus (1881), not quite a submarine", the topic obviously will now need renaming! - http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,36872.0.html

Great to chat with everyone on such a cheerful and relaxed day.
( Sorry if I made even less sense than normal while chatting or even a "bit off" but I've a hell of an gum abscess going on and I'm quite doped up!  {:-{ )
A great wide variety of boats on the water again this year, even wider than normal!

Here are a few photos....

Klunk, who wanted a Royster kit, got a complete kit, hull, superstructure and fittings with the machined alloy rudders set and complete running gear?

Will bring it with me tomorrow if it was some one at Mayhem.

For anyone that may see it today could I ask someone to find out some information on the control module in the perkasa which I saw yesterday.

Nice bloke said it was a German made unit but I forget the name of where it came from, ( no it's not the graupner unit)

Any help would be appreciated.
Have a good day guys and girls

Brilliant weekend what more could a model boater wish for!!

Lots of people made it possible but at the end of the day it's all down to Martin who sowed the Mayhem seeds a few years ago and the Mayhemmers, who must include Ruth and no 1 daughter who give him so much slack to indulge his whims and fancies.

Now completely knackered I'm about to pop a few pills and off to bed.

J.Beasley asked about the sound card I had in the Pekassa, it was manufactured by Beier electronics of Germany and is much more than just a sound card, includes 2x 20 amp amplifiers and  can be programmed to control servo's, switching, lights, the list is almost endless. This is not intended to be a sales pitch so contact me off forum if you need to know more.

Paul.

Right. I'm chinstrapped . Another great weekend marred by good weather. As said before the gazebo flying had to be postponed by to lack of Wind. The weather was unusually warm. Great to see faces old and new. Some great boats being sailed and new boats on view especially the banana boat which won the owner a medal. Thanks to Martin and family for tea and bacon rolls. The Wicky guys for helping out and hosting mayhem. The scots for general all entertainment . To nick for being nick. I hope Maureen recovers. And I have no problems about not winning the gato!
All in all another great weekend. Remember next year is the 10th anniversary of Mayhem. Let's hope next year someone at beale park uses their loaf and does not book the same weekend as another established show.

Anne and I had a really enjoyable day yesterday – it was great to meet up with friends old and new.

Many thanks to Martin and everyone who helped out for all their hard work (not forgetting Ruth & Gina for their tea and coffee making!).
Many happy returns to Tug Cowboy and thanks for his generosity in sharing his nautical cake (a delicious masterpiece made by his mum-in-law).

A word of warning to Steph after her straight running bullseye – It's not his own toys that Phil throws out of the pram!

Having joined the huge queue on Saturday to pay I was surprised to turn up on Sunday to have to pay on the way in, it used up £10 pm my cash I'd brought for a model they had for sale.
Meant I missed out on getting it as the seller wouldn't shift on price.
This made my wife very pleased indeed, she didn't stop laughing for at least 5 minutes.

Apart from that it's been an amazing weekend and met so many new friends and caught up with old ones.
Got about 400 pictures of which I'm sure at least 30 are good enough to share but won't be home for a week so  will share them when I get back.

Already planning for next year. Mayhem is simply the best boat show there is.

Huge thanks to Martin and the team for the massive amount of effort they put in.
Alex

On behalf of the Peterborough Club attendees, a huge thank you to Martin and family, the Wicksteed Park Club team and everyone else who worked so hard to make the Mayhem weekend such a great success.  It was great to meet so many Mayhemmers and to enjoy some excellent sailing. Even the weather was mostly kind and we didn't have to retrieve the Club gazebo from the other end of the Park this year !!

No problem with getting out of the park this afternoon, I bought a pre-paid exit ticket on entry this morning. However, I experienced similar problems, highlighted by others, finding the ticket machines on Saturday evening. Having asked several people for directions the machine was eventually found but had failed. By this time, the queue to the office, the alternative place to get the exit ticket endorsed, was out of the door !! A couple more ticket machines and clearer sign posting wouldn't go amiss for next year.

Other than that, a fantastic weekend and thank you all, once again, for organising and hosting the event.

Glad everyone enjoyed the weekend, thanks to Martin and family, Html, Phil, and Klunk for without them we wouldn't have had the organising team for the event. I had my first BBQ night with the campers and I will definitely be staying the whole weekend next year- just watching Klunk assembling the BBQ was entertainment itself!
Steph excelled herself beating Phil again, revenge is on the cards again for Warwick! {-)

My penguin was kidnapped by the Scottish lads and held to ransom by the Scottish duck!
Thanks to Ron Dean and Ian Kennedy for supporting Mayhem at Wicksteed once again showing the best of Deans Marine.
A big thank you to Maureen for her excellent tombola prizes and getting Klunk to buy as many tickets as possible and still not win the gato sub kit! :}
And finally I would like to thank every Mayhemer and everyone who attended the weekend for supporting Mayhem at Wicksteed- it's fantastic to see that we will celebrate our tenth year next year and I hope everyone will come again for something big (once we've worked out the details!) ;)

And finally, the new pay system has only been in operation properly for about six months and took a little while for us all to get used to but I'm sure the park will get the system to work to satisfy everyone. It was introduced to reduce fares on staying in the park so you only ever paid the full amount if you stayed over three hours. Like everything new it takes time to fine tune to get the best. :-))

Arrived home safely after yet another fantastic weekend. The Mayhem bash just gets better and better every year :-))

A great big thank you to Martin and family, Wicksteed Park mbc, kllunk, HTML, Nick, Phil and Steph, and everyone else who helped make this event, the best on my model boating calendar.
For once, our evening" celebrations" we're a little more subdued than recent years and we got to bed at a reasonable time(honest) O0 the irn bru flavoured vodka went down a treat though %%
We're already looking forward to next years tenth anniversary show and we just wouldn't miss this one for the world .
Thanks to everyone, our friends old and new,  for making us feel very welcome and hope to see you all again next year. :-))

Don't think numbers were down on Saturday, didn't seem like it.
Sunday was quieter but as the rain didn't turn up there was a steady stream of public all day.
We didn't turn off the tea urn until after 3:30!

Missed you Bill!  {:-{

Ah Ok Martin. Just in the video it seems a bit thin on public walking around .
Ive been busy of late. SMBC took its display to the Stotfold Mill weekend and I used all my passes on that. On the sunday there was 2500 cars parked up for the show . Still I was at a Steam engine rally on Saturday at Shrumshaw Norfolk and talked to members from  Norwich MBC doing there display at the rally.

The battleship is HMS Lord Nelson and is one of Geoff Dixons Victorian era pre dreadnought battleships. His steam powered HMS Canopus is just as fantastic as the Lord Nelson!

I was by the old entrance bill. One minute it was empty the next 50 odd public standing behind me. The new amphitheatre creates a new entrance to the lake plus there are now walks around the back of the campsite giving the old shortcut entrance a new lease of life. There were plenty of public and Steve deans AFOR went down a treat with the kids.

That OK then. It just did not look very busy in the videos . As I said I'm glad you all had a good weekend. Let's hope I can get there next year for the 10th year PARTY !! %%

Finally got all things sorted out and put away. I still cannot believe how much you have to take with you to sleep away from home for two nights

I am not sure this weekend was a good one for cars, I pulled into a motorway service for a comfort break and got hit in the rear passenger quarter just behind the rear wheel

What a great weekend, brilliant to meet up with faces old and new. Hopefully the missing ones will be at the tenth anniversary event next year

A big thanks to all the Wicksteed club for their continued support of this event, and to all the Mayhemers that turned up again and made the event another success. I was told that there were 150 boats on display on the Saturday, that is a good turn out. I think with the new layout it is hard to judge how many people are actually there walking around

A big thanks to Steamboat Phil (ex-chairman of the straight running club), Steph, Nick, Klunk, JayDee and finally Martin maybe next year we can get him to stay and have half a shandy in the Saturday evening.

Perhaps next year Phil will remember just how much beer he has in his caravan, so Steph has a bit of room for some vegetables

The Scottish guys were on top form once again, good to hear you guys got back safely and yes the vodka/Irun Bru was quite something, as was the sloe gin.

See you all next year, if not before at other shows.

Brian

That surge of people you were talking about Klunk always happened about 15 minutes after the train went by, they see the event from the train and just follow the track down to the lake. The whole event is now more visible with the new layout and is more open so people are not as concentrated in one area as before, in reality little difference in footfall from last year but we could do with better signage at the entrance gates, The temporary one that Gina did for us looked great, would she do some more for us for next year?

The self closing gates can be a pain but they are part of a scheme to drastically reduce the number of geese that get into the area, yes I know they can fly ( but not in the breeding season I believe) but it is working. the path fouling/ cleaning this year has been minimal, so far I think just once, the Tuesday before Mayhem. a vast improvement on previous years.

Paul.

hi all back at work  <:( <:(  and sobered up now :-X

Great weekend meeting up with everyone and having a laugh
Thanks to all those who got together to arrange this great weekend.

Regarding the "issues" stop moaning it was a great weekend.....
So what if you could not find the pay to get out machine at a event called mayhem
Your lucky there was one and you were not stuck inside the park going round in circles following a sign for the elusive pay point   {-)

Visitors yeah they were there i think but I was too busy watching Steph show Phil how to do straight running and let's be honest it goes up and down, even if they weren't it is all about meeting up with friends and having some fun and a sail  :-))

On a serious note for some strange reason some park official was asking me howeve show was and how we rated the campsite, he did say they were going to look at encouraging more people to go to the boating lake by changing the path layout

Roll on 2016!!!  :-) :-))

A hearty thank you from the travellers from the "Far East".  We all had a really enjoyable, fun time and are indebted to all those who helped make this a truly memorable event.
The best bits for us (in no particular order)
the friendliness
the Scots lads who put the "bar" in "barbecue"
"Klunk builds a barbecue"
"Steff scores a bullseye"
the variety of models
the weather (just enough rain to make it worth putting the gazebo up)
A GREAT weekend  {-)

Danny, remind me next time to avoid the pics being taken! It was nice to meet you all, and next time I hope you all partake of the delectable beverages offered. Oh plus the food! And if you do come again come down and sail the Atlantis!

Saucer of cream for Mister Mccaffrey! They are fine waders though. Are they wet suit type or completly waterproof?

One of those essential requirements for model boat recovery.

Keep those mega pictures coming Mr Mod' they are dandy.

I be tweaking right now! For just a small handful of groats I can even take years and pounds off you and even use at bit of Holywood CG to put a smile on your face!

Being serious for a moment ..... standing ovation for the Davis clan ..... loads of tea and even a bacon butty. Stupendous! Somehow we even dodged extremes of climatic conditions .... just when I had mastered ye olde art of gazebo flying. Having conducted a scientific analysis of the weekend a simple fact emerges ..... Stavros wasn't there and the weather was good. The prosecution rests its case.

Looking forward to the big 10 year bash in 2016 ...... bring it on!

I think that the Groat ceased to be legal tender the
day DM left the IRS to fend for itself and started
jousting with his favourite Postmaster  %% %%

IRS?? That's American AND it's Income Tax!!
No, dear boy - I was an Officer of Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and proud of it, until Gordon B****y Brown decided that he couldn't handle two revenue departments and allowed the scumbags in the Inland Revenue to take us over. I understand from former colleagues still under the yolk that under the new regime simply to mention the words "Customs and Excise" in the office is a disciplinary offence.
And as for a pint at lunchtime...... :o :o   I'd not last a week!

A groat is still legal tender in the more remote parts of Lincolnshire. Mind you, they think that Elvis is still alive there.......

Might get a groat at Coningsby today
Amongst the BBMF  aeroplanes the Antiques
Road show is being filmed as I type.
Sorry about the Tax office faux pas.
Customs and Excise guys used to have the
odd tipple with us RN Surveyors on the East
Coast in Harwich and Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth.

Well we are finally home, a little later than most, after a week long detour via Blackpool.

Just going through the Wicksteed pictures, of which there are hundreds, will chuck them up as I find them over the next few days - if there's anything specific anyone wants, or from different angles, I may well have it so please just ask.
