hi all I have left this a little late this year due to the loss of my best mate and show boss john Hughes
so here are some details, the show will still be on the first weekend in march 2016 which is the 5Th and 6Th sat 10-4 and sunday 10-3.
The invites for traders and club exhibitors will be going out in the near future.
entrance to the show has been set by the museum at £5.50 for all per day which is still low for a show of this quality not your average hall/sports room so don't let that put you off, come and have a sail in and around our, by now, famous model dock system or buy what you need from some of your favourite traders or just come see some wonderful models on display,
I hope I haven't missed anything but I'm sure you lot will let me know
look forward to seeing some new and old faces again,
regards Steve (ministeve) epmbc sec

Will be there :-))
-
I assume we are referring to Ellesmere Port but many people who read this forum will not necessarily be aware of that. It would be useful to rename the topic and give full details of what the show is about, where it is, how to get there etc. - and a website link if one is available!

Cheers Steve,
Colin put the spade down I think we all know that the first good show will be "Ellesmere Port" no matter what it will be called.
Well done Steve I am well aware of what is involved organising such an event (see my PM) see you on the day's.
Cheers,
Faz. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

It's an excellent show by all accounts, the more people who know about it and come the better. Not the only early show though, there is Brighton Modelworld in February and that's usually pretty good too with just about all branches of modelling represented.
Colin

My favourite show of the year and it's at a fantastic venue too. It really is worth making a visit, and there is always the nearby Cheshire Oaks or Liverpool One for diverting SWIMBO's attention away from your Bring & Buy purchases.
I'll be looking on the bring & buy for Chant plans / hull .... Hint ok2
Dave

Really looking forward to this. I booked my hotel a few days ago and the boats are in dry dock for refit/maintenance!

I have some news too we have had talks with the new museum management and the outcome is the show price will remain at £3.50 per person the rolt center lift is working fine and also the night time sail with the docks illuminated will be happening so if you would like to stay on for the Saturday nights fun pls come along the cafe will be open for business too for the evening it would be great to get some good numbers to this as it is a great evening and we have a laugh you would have to supply your own beer if wanted but must stay sensible lol
show of hands if interested in the night sail

Please don't forget the large bring and buy. Still £2.00 an item, Anything nautical related, models, kits, books, magazines etc. Accepting items from the Friday afternoon.

now the wait for photos of the show. that's one I would love to go to if I ever get back to the UK.
-
I`m waiting on a weather report for the long distance travellers, been a bit nippy, snowy and almost Baltic in that part of England over the past couple of days. Model ice-breakers will be in demand.
-
Cold but dry, no snow here.
-
Hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes but this show isn't as good as I remember it used to be. There seem to be far less traders attending, and and a few clubs are missing too.
Don't think I'll be going again next year.
Is it me or does anyone else feel the same.
Mike.
-
thought the footfall was quite a lot myself, only so many traders to sell the same gear think the majority were there last year and the year before maybe you came along at the wrong time it did go quiet at about 13:00 hrs for lunch and there was a queue at the cafe of about 45 mins so reasonably busy me thinks
Mark.

Use it or loose it springs to mind.. I actually thought that for this show it was about normal, all the traders I hoped to find were there quite happy to take my money and in fact I had to go back a couple of times because of the ques.
Taking in the fact that already this year 1 show has fallen to the side , do you want to lose another ?
To be honest we are actually quite lucky this show happened at all considering the main organiser passed away last year.
-
Hear hear
Enjoyed it and big thanks to the organisation team.
-
Hello everyone,
Bums on seats! that was what I was told when I raced motorbikes no riders no show. If we keep getting the negative comments and knocking the organisers/ traders etc it will not be long before we do not have any shows to attend. I fully understand that some people may think "there wasn't much there or too many traders didn't turn up" but hey guys n gals have you ever thought about how much time and UNPAID EFFORT goes into sorting out all the details and problems to make such an event happen? Please remember folks that all of the business's have to make a profit or they go to the wall and we will have nobody to buy our stuff off onsite so we can see what we are getting. Come on people rally round and help don't let us lose all our shows.
Rant over.
Sad over the comments,
Faz. {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {:-{
-
I was at the show today and was very pleased with it.only complant I would have was the queue at the cafe tho when served it was good and hot.
it looked like all the traders were therefrom last year andlooked like 99% of the clubs turned up.so from me and the rest of the lads who came from my club well done to all concerned.
-
Great day at Ellesmere Show today.A cracking start to the show season. All the traders I expected were there. Some stunning models on show on the well laid out club stands.
Just an observation and by no means a criticism, perhaps some signage to the various buildings with clubs in for newbie visitors, especially as there were no programmes this year.Having attended for many years we know all the places to look for the club stands, and best of all the way to the bring and buy.
thanks chaps, your hard work is appreciated.
-
And £1.70 for a cup of tea!! It's a teabag and hot water!. Great show though.
-
Hi guys
Well I enjoyed it and thought it was great value at only £3.50 (half what lunch cost). I think maybe slightly fewer people but that was probably just people not travelling thinking the weather might be bad. As for traders I managed to get all I wanted and Component Shop did very well out of me .... swimbo would faint if she knew. Anyway I have dived into Action gear for my next build plus bought some upgrades for boats I have already. All in all a nice day in good company. :-))
Dave
-
FastFaz and TheLongBuild are on the money here guys.
The people who do this, do it for nothing, and at a an expense to themselves in both time and money, just so people can enjoy it for what it's meant to be. It is and can be a great show going forward, and yes the organisation has changed somewhat but the people who turn up and show are still the same, and are always committed to providing not only a show, but advice and information for anyone to take in.
The displays, clubs, traders and the guys and girls who sail the models are all key to making this a success, and I for one have massive admiration for the effort and time that goes into this from all of you, so thank you all of you.
On a lighter note, it was a great first day - yes the weather is terrible which has unfortunately steered some folks away, but there has been plenty of sailing and no doubt more tomorrow. :-)) Except, the big Type 45 wont be on the wet stuff after suffering a slight leak.... again!
Lets see some more action tomorrow!
-
:-) Always take my own food, and drinks
will put some pics up later

Hello,
With the bad weather in the area recently, I was very surprised how many people turned up at the Show!.
Most of the Visitors I spoke to were just very pleased to see all the Clubs and Traders.

So HOW MUCH is the new Shannon from MBD, and what do you get for your pennies
From their website.... The semi-kit will consist of hull, deck, superstructure and fender
I Think the price at Ellesmere Port was £295, but it may be a bit lower. From discussion at their stand, I don't think there is definitive list of all the parts needed to complete the model and there was no suggestions for off the shelf scale water jets.
-
yes cos i saw him there 1st person i saw .....gave me nightmares...thought at one moment he was going to jump in as he was measuring the depth of the lock !!!!!!!!!!!!! Ill put up some NASTY pics up later ha ha

thank you gentlemen for posting all these photos of such wonderful ships, tanks even land rovers.
I must , one day try to visit the show as it looks idyllic in such a lovely setting, and such a wonderful variety of models as well.
I just thank you on behalf of those unable to actually physically get to such shows for posting all these wonderful photos of the shows.
In my humble opinion I don't know how anyone can say that there wasn't enough to see is beyond me, as it would have taken me the whole weekend to view it all.
Thank you again.
Jim.
-
Thanks for the pics guys, yes its me, yes I am still around and you thought you'd escape me....
NO.
I would have had pics to post however sadly I cant post the pics i took as my camera fell into the lock and is lost, Thanks to Ministeve for trying to fish it out but sadly the pics I took are lost. (enter censored language here!) Great to see the Red Oktober is around, and i think thanks to a visitor from Canada, will be safely in vancouver by the end of the week before going to Australia.
ps: thanks for the pic Larry Longbuild. :)
-
Great photos folks :-)) a shame about the lost camera!
Thanks for a great weekend Steve and everyone who put it together. I really had a great time as always, it was great to see some familiar faces, and to meet some new friends too.
Also, I'd like to thank especially the guys who helped me in and out of the water with the big 45. I'd have been stuffed without you lot and I owe you all a beer! I may live to regret that {-) but next time you see me, remind me and I'll have one on the bar for you.
Cheers all! I'll upload some photos later in the week. :-))
-
Adam, I think I had photos of the 45 as well on that camera!
grrr
-
Very nice pics
It amazes me that people can transport these models without damage!
-
HI Essex done it for years with no problems along carrying the club display stand. I made a rack for my car the club stand goes underneath and the model go on the top. The models are then packed using the old toilet roll working from the car edge inwards and at the bow and stern works for me every time. Also handy if you get caught short. I would like to thank Steve and all at the Ellesmere Model Boat Club for the hard work that goes into making the event possible. Our club stand was kept busy lots of questions and positive feed back trade support again proved a success. And I am sure we would all hope this will one for the calendar in 2017.
Stan on behalf of all club members who attended.

Going to do the long weekend stint again next year, missed having a wee sail this year.

he brought this tug in his suit case type of flat pack & Ray Malone that's the guy with him built it up at his place in South End so
he could bring it along to E/P

Hi Steve you are right John was missed over the weekend a loss to the hobby .All clubs have engine drivers and without them no events or shows would take place. The loss of any show or club event is not good for the hobby .I know from my work load at club level what is needed to to run a big event so thank you and your club for last weekend and long may it continue.
Stan :-)) :-)) :-))

Thank for the great photos it is appreciated by modellers that live too far to travel especially for a weekend

Many thanks to everyone who visited the show, we try our best. The number of traders is, we believe, right for the show. One can get nearly everything needed for the modeller. It would be nice to see maybe only a couple more but 14 traders would be enough. Regarding the signage I can only apologise for the lack of it. It was agreed at our last meeting with the Museum that they would attend to that but it did not happen. A program was also produced by the museum for previous shows by the museum. (Come back john Inch, all is forgiven)!!! We are always open to suggestions as to ways in which we could improve the show, we always try to do our best. Please remember we are only model boaters like you, not proffessional show organisers.

This has been passed on from Ellesmere Port Authority. They believe there is three people trying to get to Canada by giving a gift
to a person so he will take them back with him. The thing is it's not there gift to give, shame on them {-) {-) {-)

First time at the show as a member of ELLESMERE PORT MBC. Very impressed with effort by members and members of other clubs to get the place organised despite clod, wind and sleet on Friday. As someone new to the hobby I was impressed with the helpful attitude of the traders and their tolerance of a technical idiot. Had passing conversations with bods from Balne Moor, Wallasey, Runcorn and a few other places all of whom were great ambassadors for the hobby. Hope to see you all at the Boat Museum in 2017.
