Snapper was a free plan in the May 1968 Model Boats magazine. It may be worth trying to locate a copy of the magazine with the plan. The June 1968 issue featured the second part of the written build item.

They don't have Snapper plans, but there are some interesting vintage models among the X-List plans at Myhobbystore. http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/browser/5559/sports-boat (http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/browser/5559/sports-boat)
The Screwdriver looks interesting, and at 48" L and 15" beam.

Hi Madboats
I have an Aerokits Sea Hornet built from the original plans.
It is 25 and 1/4 inches.
So this is what I have in it, 3S 2650mah Lipo battery, 45Amp car ESC(with reverse), 2 blade 32mm prop with a B28-57-15L 1900kv 750kw motor.
All from Hobbyking.
Speed about 40mph.
Balance point 10 inches from the stern.

Hope this helps with you setup.

Hi canabus
Thanks for the info on my snapper post first kit i built was a aerokits sea nymph back in the 60
The brushless motor info you have listed will be a great help,i run brushless in a catchalot and a marksman but wonder if i have got the size right ok on ic engines but all the numbers with brushless puzzle me

Happy building & boating  :-)

Brushless motors, generally the first two numbers are the can size e.g. B28-57-15L 28mm, the second two numbers are the can length 57mm and the KV is the revs per volt (1900kv = 21090rpm on 3S(11.1 volts) and 28120prm on 4S(14.8 volts).
My 3648-1450kv(1600 watts) on 4S=21460rpm over powers the old OS40 FSR(20,000rpm 1.6hp).
One hp= about 750watts.
This new brushless and Lipo battery stuff is so powerful it turned by ocean racer deep vee(geared 540 brush motor on Nicads(10 minutes run with the speed of a tug boat) into an insanely fast ocean racer in a bit of wave running on the prop in the water only.
Total hand full and a bit trying with over 1/2 hour running(5800mah battery).
Looking at the Snapper you may have to put the battery under the driver to get the balance point right.
I have had the original plans for the Sea Hornet, Swordsman and Sea Rover rescanned into PDF format, so I can get them reprinted to larger sizes e.g. Sea Rover 20% bigger to 35 and 1/4 inches and the Sea Hornet 25% bigger to 31 and 1/4 inches.
The Swordsman is 33 and 1/4 inches standard.
Also have all the frame drawings.

The Screwdriver is a great offshore boat, designed originally for a 10cc glow.  My dear old Dad and I built one many years ago and fitted it with a 15cc spark Gannet engine. I still have it.

A couple of years ago, I came across a fibre glass hull for one and that is still waiting building

Current add on Ebay Uk.  Same seller has the June edition with the second build part.

Just out of interest, I bought the Sept. 1968 Model Boats from the seller above for an article covering the build of Hammerhead , a small offshore racer.

In the small ads in the back of the magazine was one for Snapper hulls , complete in any colour fibre glass for £7.00.  Don't know what the equivalent price would be today

According to this it's £113.65.  http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1633409/Historic-inflation-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html (http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1633409/Historic-inflation-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html)
Take care, though - it's only an average calculation and doesn't allow for things like Duty rates. For an extreme example of how far out it can be, a packet of 20 Embassy Tipped cigarettes was 3s 2d (16p) in the late 60s. That translates to £2.57 in 2016 - except a pack of 20 Embassy Red King Size is actually £9.80 in Toss-co!

Pity that my time machine is up on bricks for the winter, otherwise it would be worth nipping back and buying a few, so I could make a quick profit.  Would be the only time I have ever made anything out of model boating.

My time machine would not fit a E-type and a GT40 in with all the kit boats!!!

We will have to borrow the TARDIS from Dr. Who. That seems big enough for most things
