Title: Mayhem at Wicksteed 2018
Post by: Klunk on May 29, 2017, 03:00:57 pm
After this year's do.........the committee (is there a committee? ) are pleased to announce the dates for 2018.
26 -27 May 2018.

Come meet your fellow modellers and Forum members. Put names to faces and see who built what.
Can't promise good weather, but we can promise good company and lots of boats.

We propose a small theme for next year....
In honour of 2 well known boat builders, we would like to see some boats from Vic Smeed and Glynn Guest
All you have to do is build them!

There will be a small prize for the best boat!

Hope to see you all there .........

Sir Klunk & Martin!

I think this is a fantastic idea and I now have a third project between my two main ones. :-)

Let's see how many we can get for Mayhem at Wicksteed 2018. :-))

It does not have to be a new build.  This is a tribute to both men for their contributions to modelling.

Couple of questions Klunk;

1. Can it be a modified GG or VS design? (eg. bigger)
2. Have I read somewhere, that someone used a car type differential gearbox, with brakes,  to drive and steer a side-wheel paddle boat?!

.... just thinking out loud...  %)
Title: Re: Mayhem at Wicksteed 2018
Post by: Klunk on May 30, 2017, 06:46:30 pm

I think in the spirit of Mayhem it can be a modified design.
if you want to build it big enough to house that type of gear then be my guest, i will even help launch it!!!

Well hopefully we will have a lot of uptake on this. Both have given so much to model boating.

I'll be doing one as well, in spirit of the show and coming up with a good idea to get everyone building, hopefully everyone will take part.

Would having a separate topic be good so people can post there progress?

Hi ya Bri

I have just been through the thread for the RTTL build - I noticed half of the pics are missing at the end - no doubt this may be due to a wobbler that happened to Mayhem,.   I wonder if Martin can salvage some of the pics he may have them on backup disc somewhere - I don't keep build logs.

If I can help though, I will.

Blimey, well reminded, my dad built me that in 1969 although without the vane steering and I still have the boat. So I think I will add the vane gear for next years mayhem, I have have also decided what I am going to build (scaled up a little) it will be guess the boat during the build log  :-)) :-))

Replicas of classic vintage builds sounds interesting, but what really lights my boilers is imagining an even larger battle squadron of six foot plus battleships.  There should be two Agincourt's on the water next year to add to that awesome line ahead column.  Plus, I know that Nick is building a famous battlecruiser from an extended Dreadnaught hull.  We may even get to see more ships with simulated broadsides ?

That long line of mega ships was my highlight of Wicksteed, something you will not see at your local pond.

B-Liner was a Vic Smeed design Phil I built one and funny enough it's still in my parents loft l think with a more powerful motor than a Monoperm I think it will be a lot more of a successful boat.

After 2 years away I finally have all the stars aligned and the diary allows us to return to Wicksteed in 2018. We also now have a caravan so will there be the camping arrangements available in previous years for those with tin tents or shall I book a local site? Want to get it booked up quickly then she can't change her mind  <*<

Well 2018 is here. So happy new year to you all.
I hope you are all on your builds, GG, vic smeed or the secret 10!
For those camping, its time to start dusting off the cobwebs from the equipment.
For all others its time to just dust off the cobwebs!
Nick and Steve are brewing Sloe gin, the scottish contingent will be doing there own thing as usual....and i do not want to think what Steamboat Phil is bringing after last years sampling!
As usual fish and chips on friday night and the BBQ on Saturday for those camping.
Free tea and coffee all weekend (donations always welcome in the box!)
Great sailing weather promised....just not sure by who! But we have had 2 good years on the trot now.
As usual free entry but WP charge for parking. Im sure once Nick is back he will fill in more relevant details.
As previous years car parking within 100 yards of the lake, if you need help getting boats to the lake please ask on the day.

Ps. On a side note for the BBQ, you bring the food and i will cook it. Anyone want to be more adventurous than sausages and burgers, and Stepanie that DOES NOT MEAN GREEN STUFF!
But i can conceed to stuffed peppers, filled garlic mushrooms, grilled haloumi, salmon fillets, etc etc

I aim to be there for both days, arriving Friday evening.  I think I got my tiny tent figured out from last year.
Best event on the calendar IMHO   :-))

If anyone remembers Ron surprising me with a giant hull, and then loading it with 29Kg of lead, I am aiming to bring the full working ship this time.  Automatic turret bearing control and gun fire smoke included.  Yes, a 2.2 metre ship can fit in a tiny car  %%

It is pretty good for parking, even later in the day, and the path to the lake from the parking area is level enough not to shake all the joints loose on your superstructure! There is a narrow gauge railway track across the access road the path links to but I have never seen any issues the times I have been.

I expect we would have heard much gnashing of teeth about it if it was contrary!

And (aiming for) the first gun fire battle between dreadnaughts, each using Geoff's unique gun fire system.
HMS Iron Duke vs HMS Agincourt.

Was it only last year that Ron Dean surprised me with a giant hull, and proceeded to load it with 29 kg of ballast?

On a side note.......does anyone want to make a video of the weekend.....like Martin does with the camera. Ho around film all the boats on display a couple of interviews etc. And if your camping the weekend a highly edited version of the Saturday BBQ. You know just for you tube. The unedited version is to be used for blackmail.
Also any volunteers for the death slide if its open this year. People i would like to see go on it.....any of the scottish contingent.  Martin.  Little Miss, Stavros, Steamboat Apprentice, Ballastankian.  Sorry Bobk your not tall enough!

warwick was my birthday weekend. And that was standing half naked in the most English pub I have ever been in. Singing the welsh national anthem as loud as I could
Ordering 20 pizzas. And getting a taxi  100 ft up the road
That was a cracking weekend too

I intend to stay both days this year come what may (including bearing the lack of sleep Saturday night caused by two rooms of girls and women from the same family moving from one room to another via loud knocking and talking in the corridor despite two warnings from the night manager. I don't know enough expletives in Urdu or Persian to get my point across about SLEEP! ) so I will have more time on the Sunday to get moist on the death slide!

How much is it? If it is more than a reasonable sunday roast then I may have priority issues!

Hi Phil

Discount all sorted and in the finalised stage of ensuring that when a Mayhem member rings up to book their camping space that the person on the other end knows to give the discount as a new team of receptionists arrived last year and didn’t know! Fingers crossed you’ll get all the information in 12 days when I return from Aki!

How come I was told by Martin, that there was no discount this year ? Without a discount at £30 per night for me to do for me to do Fri/Sat/Sunday night's, because of my disability, which meant £90 without any electric, it put it out of my available pocket (As I was coming on my own - My wife hates model weekends). So now i have made other arrangements to go to another "day event", I find that discounts are available. I'm not changing my arrangements again. So looks like I miss out on Mayhem again.
Extremely fed up about it 😔

Hi Rolfy Dave

I’m sorry to hear about the confusion. I don’t know why Martin said that but he is quite a busy man and may have been misinformed about the discount. Either way I’m sorry for it as I’m the one who organises the campsite discount. The reason why the discount information is late being issued every year is because the Park doesn’t formally open until Easter every year so they operate with a skeleton crew. They have to brief out the information to the receptionists so we don’t get the confusion we had a few years back when some of them didn’t know about the Mayhem discount and a few angry Mayhemers couldn’t book the site.
Hopefully this is all behind us with the new Management and I get on quite well with the new MD.
Regards

Nick

I’ve just checked my inbox for my emails as usually I get a response in a couple of days but no reply. Did a bit of investigation and discovered that the clever iPhone predictive software chose an old email address to send my last email to. I’ve sent another to the email address I know that works!
I’ll let you know hopefully by Wednesday. Typical technology letting down simple requests! %%
If all else fails I’m going up to reception on Tuesday to drop off the paperwork for the weekend I get it sorted then.

Unfortunately yes.

I believe it's £6 per day, Mayhem has no control over this as its the park that charges it.

Hello Campers, Hi-Di-Hi!

Just finished speaking with the park and we have a discount for the campers which lowers it to the lower rates for the long weekend.
Please contact the park directly via telephone quoting that you are ‘Model Boat Mayhem campers’. The telephone number is: tel:(01536) 512475

Please do not ring today, all bookings will start from Friday 6 April and please do not book later than one week before the Mayhem weekend as they need to know how much space to allocate to us in the campsite.

Any problems please let me know via the forums PM system and I’ll try my best to sort it out. :-))

Hello,
How deep is the water in the Lake at Wicky????.
I will be bringing another SMALL yacht, which has a rather deep keel !.
Been looking at photos of folk standing in the Lake, but how deep is it ??.
Has anybody sailed a new Marblehead Yacht there - - has a deeper keel than mine.
John.

Actually it's 6 or 7' deep but you will need to bring your own JCB to facilitate that..... and probably a solicitor!     %)

Hi Jay Dee

The lake has had Marblehead Yachts sail on it. It might scrape the keel on the campsite end of the lake but the car park end has plenty of room :-))

I was having a chat with someone this week, it  occurred if you haven't been to Mayhem @ Wicksteed before, you may not know what it all about! It's really just a 'come-sail-your-boat weekend and like-minded comradery!

It's a very informal event for ALL model Boaters local & Worldwide!
No invites needed .... (except this one i guess!), pack a boat... or ten, pack a chair, drive to Kettering and join in!

Mayhem @ Wicksteed
Free entry ( park entrance / parking,  £6 per car )
Free Sailing
Free tea and coffee all day for Mahemers, kindly sponsored by SteamBoatPhil, Ruth & Gina!
Evening BBQ with the campers
Free very unpredictable weather

We promise lots conviviality,  chinwagging, rib-taking, inciteful knowledge & and encouragement.
Overnight camping encouraged for those who wish to stay late chewing the cud and sinking a beer... or two.
Trade, club and static displays are all welcome, post any questions on here for more details!
As this is informal we will be providing various Mayhem Medals  in various categories, e.g Favorite boat, best finish, most working features, furthest traveled, best sinking, silliest idea etc...  :D

Sorry, can't oblige this year, we are due to get back from France late on the Friday night so not really practical to toil up to Wicksteed a few hours later. Shame as it is shaping up to be a very interesting event.
I'd bring some French weather back and send it on except that the forecast for the Loire Valley is thunderstorms which is similar to the usual Mayhem default meteorological conditions.  :((
I do hope the weather is kind for once though and look forward to seeing the photos.

I know it has been mentioned many times before but I can not find it.. What is the procedure for gaining entry, I know there is no cost to the actual Mayhem weekend, but I believe there is a car park charge.  And where is the car park in comparison to the Boating Lake..

Asking for a friend   ok2

look on page 2 of this thread.
on entry you get a ticket.  before you leave go to machine and redeem ticket. all day parking is £6. DO NOT GO TO LEAVE without paying for ticket. car park fir mayhem is  100yds from lake
Title: Re: Mayhem Weekend 2018 - May 26, 27
Post by: Martin [Admin] on May 21, 2018, 02:13:09 pm

Yes the parking system at Wicksteed is not the friendliest system, you can't pay at the exit!   >:-o
( .... unless the machine is busted again! )

As sir Klunk say, you grab a ticket from the machine at the entrance barrier, stick it in another machine to pay ( in the park central area ) and you post the paid ticket in the exit barrier on the way out.

But the weather is looking promising, the lake is excellent, Wicksteed model boat club are a great bunch of guys and  camaraderie is good  :-))

..... Oh, and SteamBoatPhil will be there.... sorry about that!  {-)

Hi all Deans Mari e will be at Wickstead over the weekend, not a full stand as the old bones can not cart it all 4 times, so if you want anything in particular gives us a mail and we will put it in the van, boat bits only ?
We will have on display on our stand the next release to the range, first time out on show to the public and to be released very soon,
Large Gas Carrier tanker, full of gas, from Ron see you at the show,  bring yachts, we do not need the wind, still have not found the marquee from last year.Regards Deans Marine

Very impressive as must the real tanks be. They took a load of coded welding to fabricate! Are your tanks vacuum formed or GRP ?

Klunk I am late in notifying my intention to  camp on Saturday night and still need to
book with the office tomorrow.
Rodger from Northampton has already booked to camp.
No new model boats unfortunately, but a decent deckchair and the all important hat to guard against the 'wall to wall' sunshine !

But on a higher plane.....I have found my hat and goggles, That should please CarlMT as he wore the goggles last year at Deans marine weekend and looked like Boris out of Men in Black (google it). I have also found a certain outfit that will be worn in part on Saturday.......But I cannot find my tuxedo for saturday night!
PS bring some warm clothing for the BBQ, it did get very chilly last year!!!

Ron's probably loading the van now, so if you have any orders or specific items you what him to bring ( and avoid P&P! ),

  .... get your orders in ASAP!  -    https://www.deansmarine.co.uk/   -       deansmarine@yahoo.co.uk

well, we are coming up my lad and I ... we have not been before and not really sure what we are going to see... other than a big lake and some boats things LOL...

now I had a problem with my wooden launch boat but I did order a new receiver and it's arrived ( where it is now though :-/ ) on the off chance that was the problem with the boat but not sure if I will get time to put it all togeather gulp!!!

I would like to bring out sail boat but that's old crystal transmitter so I am guessing this is going to be an issue??

are there going to be any trade sales for picking up bits and bobs for builds we have on going? I would like to say we would bring our Pegasis but it's er... in bits LOL..

So might have to ask to borrow a boat if any one is kid enough to lend us one... We are coming from Southampton.. and collecting lifeboats for next builds from a chap we are meeting up there..

Hi surfer71,
I know Ron Dean will be there not sure who else, also no problem on 27 of 40 meg, we do have a frequency board, I still use 27 meg (not bad for a straight running boat)
If my grandchildren don't destroy the boats I am more than happy to loan you one for 2 days of....well MAYHEM  {-) {-)  You will find me in the Blackheath MPBC gazebo,

Hey Klunk you thought you had a lot to get rid of, not sure there is space in the car for Steamboat Apprentice with all the bits I have, and there certainly isn't space for vegetables.   %%

Is anyone taking a charger that will cope with 12v (10cell) NiMh battery pack? Mine only runs up to 8 cell.May not need it since there could easily be a sinking feeling and I could split the pack but I thought I'd ask first.
Cheers for now.

Hoping to set off at around 5pm Tonight for the 155 mile journey of hell around the M25 and along the M1 - we're booked in at a place a few miles away so should be able to be there nice and early in the Morning.

Evening All!  :-)

Saturday, May 26 - Well what a GREAT day.... and to be honest, totally unexpected Sunshine!
Weather started out dull, damp and miserable, well around Peterborough anyway!

A lot of people were already on site by the time we pitched up .... mechanical problems, couldn't roll out of bed, nearly all the trolleys were missing from Tescos, could find the breakfast wraps on the McDonalds, blaa, blaa, etc.  Anyway, the girls soon got Phil's tea urn on the go and things soon stated to look better.

There was always a good number of boats on the water all day, John says he counted 25 at one stage! The yacht boys had a particularly good day even though the it wasn't very windy and thankfully not choppy. We also found out what the "Secret 10" was about..... battle Springers! Not as exciting as it sound but it was a great laugh! Some really nice boats on show and on the water, two that I particularly liked were a couple of Brushless Sea Queens (?) that effortlessly flew up-&-down the lake. Both had really nice paint jobs that made you smile with the bright sunshine caught them in a turn.  O0 Of course the show stopped when BobK and C3P0 turned up with HMS Agincourt, or as Bob called it 'Agin & court' as the vessel splits in two for transportation!  :-)

Great to meet up with old friends and meet new one....like JayDee new 'White Star Line' captains  beard (sponsored by Birds Eye Fish Fingers)!  Thanks for coming up and introducing yourself, makes it all worthwhile. André from Belgium was a great chap, thanks for the hand delivered beer!  :-) ( Sorry if I didn't get your name right, I don't have an problem remembering faces or names... but it seems I do have an issue with putting  the names to said faces! )   :embarrassed:

Wicksteeed club had once again done a wonderful job again and the place looked great, especially when the sun came out, thanks chaps, we all thank you. Also to Many thanks to John ( Celestine ) for the magnanimous donation to a whole table of slightly used SLA batteries... that gone in less than an hour!...... which had the detonator in it again john?!  %)

... and now, some photos....

Unexpectedly Brilliant Day today at Wicksteed!
The weatherman  weather person had promised lightning, thunder, rain, brimstone & fire but none of it!
Turned out to be an even better day than Saturday, weather wise, actually hotter in the afternoon, wonderful!
Most of us had expected to be packed up and going home after the bacon rolls this morning but none of it! If you gave it a miss, you missed out on a great days model boating.    (NB: We always bring more bacon than last year... but still not enough!

.... big Andy even got me to sail Klunk's wonderful Atlantis yacht, even after I declined Klunk's offer, twice earlier in the day!
What a wonderful thing that yacht is.

Klunk was trading like  Arthur Daley  over the weekend, some REAL BARGINS were to be had, three time I picked up stuff only to have to close my eyes and walk away ( I was in direct eye-line of Ruth! ) overall Klunk seemed very happy.... but it's hard to tell.... he's always happy! Top Bloke.   :-))
.... but I still didn't get a TID off him.  <:(

Anyway, an 11 out-of 10 weekend, thank you for coming and making Very enjoyable and such a good laugh.
Thanks to Phil & Steph for your generosity and Support.
Thanks to André for coming so far, Belgium... and the beer!
Ruth & Gina for the teas, coffees & bacon rolls.
Thanks to Tony, best & worst ship builder at the same time.
Ron Dean of Deans Marine.
Missed our friends that  didn't / couldn't come.
We met Martin Chorlton, new Model Boats magazine editor, thoroughly decent chap!
Everyone that showed me their boats, posed for the camera and letting me video everything... with two or three retakes!
The Wicksteed model boat club and park management.

See you all next year - May 25, 26  :-) .... it is actually worth the effort!

Lots of photos & videos to follow, please post yours here too.
Sing out if you see yourself, your boat or other vessels / people you recognize!    O0

I'd like to add my thanks to everyone involved in organising the weekend, especially Martin and family, and everyone that showed up.

It's been 6 years since I showed up at Wicksteed (and two since I've been on here) but it's good to be back, and great to see all the old faces.

Highlights of the weekend were:

- Finding a prop nut in the bottom of the lake (see above photo...)
- Pete: "put a 9 volt in it Phil" Phil, 2 minutes later as straight runner hurtles across the lake in a very non straight manner "ANDYYYYYY!"
- Looking very nonchalant, whilst actually being a giant tent peg for Phil's gazebo
- The Secret 10's epic initial battle, then very long drawn out way of finding who had the better battery...
- Random woman carrying a swan
- Phil's Granddaughter being better at straight running than him
- Getting Mr Mayhem himself to actually sail a boat!

Thanks to all

I promise that I'll try not to sink next year :embarrassed: but at least I managed to prove that Mr Thornycroft was fairly good at his job :-))

You showed us what destroyers can do Tony and that is with a bottle of Old Speckled Hen on the go!

Thanks for a lovely weekend folks.
-I spent far more than I intended thanks to Klunk's hypnotic sales patter!

-We did indeed see that both of Phil's Granddaughters are better at him at model boating activities as his youngest sailed a yacht around the lake Sunday morming like she had done it for years!

-The bacon rolls were deeeeelish, as was the tea and coffee. I apologise to Bob K, for waking him up to see if he wanted a brew. Luckily he did  :embarrassed:

-Agin and Court met in the middle after a little gentle 'nudgery' and then proceeded to sail around the pond sedately looking like a bloomin star, and that's in ply and primer.

-The return trip home was much better than the drive up, though we had biblical floods, thunder and lightning around Birmingham. The drive south of that just got better until Somerset when it was just as good as it had been at Wicky.

-Sunday was a lovely day of yachting and relaxing. Here' to next year with a boat that sails!!!!

Many thanks to Martin and the Team for an awesome Mayhem Weekend.  Special thanks also to Geoff and C-3PO for their efforts in getting my Agincourt first sailing underway.  IMO if people only ever went to just one show a year, Mayhem is the one to put top of the To-Do list.  So many good friends, awesome ships, and two days of continuous fun.

I will admit to being totally exhausted after the journey home.  At lot of late nights, and very early starts, on my big ships development programme.  Sustained by a joyous late evening BBQ, I was introduced to sloe gin  %%
I can almost forgive the weather filling my tent with water overnight.

Well what a weekend!
I’ve just recovered this morning from the lack of sleep from Saturday evening (if you get the chance to stay over for the night I highly recommend it- so much much fun seeing what can be BBQ’d as Klunk has a way with cooking anything really well).  O0
Who would have believed the weather too, I was truly expecting the biblical rain on the Sunday and vigilantly watched the skies for transgressions but there were none!
Any way...
A big thank you to Martin, Ruth and Gina for their hard work manning the Mayhem tent- I certainly needed the bacon butties and coffee yesterday.
A big thanks to Klunk and the Luton/Hemmel clubs for all the help especially the Springer Demolition Derby, we’ve got some great ideas for next year and I can’t wait!
Of course who can’t forget Phil and Steph allowing their grandchildren to beat them at straight running (sorry did I say allow! {-) ).
I want to personally thank Davie and Capt Ron (2 of the infamous Scottish Lads) for the funniest time I’ve had in years and for helping the Wicksteed club pack away our kit.
It was great to see Ron Dean- yes he was actually sailing this year- four different boats he told me and he did mention that the radio gear wasn’t valve radio too ! %%
It was great to see old friends and some new ones too, I’m looking forward to next year when I presume the weather will go back to normal service!!!!
Thanks everyone for a brilliant weekend and see you all soon!
And don’t forget to look in your future copies of Model Boats magazine to see the new editors report on the weekend. :-))

to the happy campers......great to see you all again.
Tony h.  thanks for the beer and watching that weird contraption you had!.
to the new campers this year.  please come introduce yourselves. we don't bite. we are a bit loud and raucous but we are very friendly.
Martin and family again big thank you for tea coffee and bacon rolls. can't wait to see what Little Miss will be wearing next year.
and a personal big thank you to all who bought  anything off me!  I know most were shocked at the cheap prices.....but hey  we are all modellers!
bug thanks to all who attended making this a great event. and to the new editor of Midel Boats magazine, welcome to our family

Another year another FANTASTIC event, Ruth and Gina certainly deserve a shopping trip now Martin  :-))
Thanks to Andy and Phil for the glue otherwise my tug boat would not of made it onto the water, always prepared and spent a good couple of hours on the water trouble free again.

Klunks sailing yacht is a thing of beauty not to mention his selling skills to Shipmate60 (Bob).

Lovely chat with Ron and a pleasure to see the new boat.
Martin from Model boats magazine what a nice chap and even took some photos with his mammoth lens.

All in all a super event thats NOT to be missed

I did enjoy seeing capital ships being escorted by destroyers over the weekend. Tony did a sterling job protecting them from submarines. Geoff did bonk a mine with Iron Duke Saturday morning and I am sure Tony would have been there sharpish to take off survivors  :-))

Seeing his HMS Marksman on the water gave me renewed confidence in the freeboard of my little lard tub destroyer!

Yes,  that's my Beastie.  Spent a lot of Saturday wiring it up at C-3PO's, but did get her Maiden Voyage in.
Nick says he may have a photo of her on the water.

As you can see the wiring needs rationalising and tidying up, and is by no means complete yet.

Well, I went this weekend to the event in Northampton.. I must say, I am not going again!!

I mean.. I came with 4 boats and parked up... before I knew it.

I had bought a boat for my son, from the set up trade area.

Then as the day went on I ended up buying more boats, and then offered more boats and then Phil gave my son an old Sea Queen in need of resto........

The problem now is .......................

where to find time to do them all ..

Honestly I came with 4 boats, left with 10............ that's not all of it.. then on the way home following a lovely olderchap and his wife I now have a further 5 !!!!

So I am not coming again.. well unless I come in a VERY small car  {-) %% {-)

 :-)) {-) {-) {-) {-)

15 Boats in there... so now you can see why we didn't come and camp over night LOL..

But honestly.. what a cracking day.. we really enjoyed it.. BIG thanks to every one that has helped top up our workshop with new boat projects.. my lad is keen to try some out and more important get the " Jaw Dropping " IOM Light weight race boat on the water.. I am off to PJ sails soon.. Boy that boat I recon will be fast and just right for him. He was the lad on the 65 Fiesta M sail boat, for almost ALL the day. I taught him the basics of the wind and he is self taught from there on in.. So I know the chap selling us the boat thought it was too much for my lad, yes normally you would be right there, but he is already a condifdent sailor so this IOM ( Not MarbleHead ) will be with him for years to come and he's going to be in at the deep end in terms of speed v skill but i am confident he will be ahead of the game in no time..

As for the others well, thank you.. Steamboat Phil the sea queen will be in the loft for the summer as too much on the go at the mo.. but will come out in the winter for wet days tinkering in the workshop.. so I can see that returning to the water in a year or so :-)

For me I collected my RNLI Life boats for me and one for my son and I to do together..
54" Arun and a Trent.
LOTS Of learning to do there...

My solid sail, sail boat.. well the night before we came I had to change the radio gear due to problems so hence its set up was poor.. but once I tinkered a bit with the excess slack on the rope it was off on its way.. I knew it would have the heads turning.. it's very different, very bobby about boat but it takes all the gusts well..

Thanks to local club member John and his lovely wife My son and I have 5 more boats!! to restore and tinker with.. one boat I am giving to another dad and his son to tinker and learn on with us. They are RC plane fans like us ( only basic park flyers, we just want to chuck and fly, Super Cubs ) so I am giving them a boat to work on and have as it's spreading the boats out there to a new generation.

Sadly my Launch boat did have a fault with some thing on it I think it's the reciever and i only got a short run out on that boat.. so it's back in the workshop for that..

building from plans is NOW on hold! due to projects.. but we will be busy and we will be asking lots of questions so please do help..
Met some great folk this Saturday.. we will come again... but this time to sell my boats to make way for these new ones LOL..

TO be honest I had wanted to sell some of my boats before this weekend, to get some new ones to play with.. so the time has come and I will be selling my long term owned boats soon.

Spearfish
Lesro 70's Pilot boat
Poss my 130cm hull and deck
My Burgundy 130cm speed boat..

details to follow.. the only reason the above will be up for sale is because with all the new projects I can't really kept them All LOL...

Star of the show for me was collecting this from John and his Wife, sadly a past member passed away and we have taken over the reins now for this boat.. We are big fans of sail boats my son and I .. so him with his super fast IOM race boat and me with this stunning 1 meter wooden classic.. I can see lots of father son time at the lake with these two.. RNLI donation on it's way John.

So we will come again next year... but in a smaller car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so we can't BUY anything LOL  :}

 :-)) {-)

I swapped out the wood launch for the Yellow Solid Sail boat so I didn't lose out any time on the water really.... ok2

I think it's the receiver that's gone.. it works perfectly for a few mins then shuts down and either the boat goes off in circles on it's own ( which it did ) or it just stops..

But hey ho.. new one in the box ready.. It was too perfect a condition for sailing not to miss out really.. so hence he was on his 65 and I was on the solid sail boat.. next year will be IOM's :}

Phil isn't it? :-))  Big thanks for the sale of the sail boat.. he's not stopped talking about it  %%

SO we are now setting it up and put in an order for some parts to put it on the water.. RC gear going in now I have tested my other T5 set up.. yep my receiver in that has gone so looking for a new one..

Such a great day.. really enjoyed it.. even if we went abit mad with the number of boats but rest assured we are full of projects and winter shed time is going to be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks and in that case I think it must be the Revell S 100 which they used to demonstrate one of the micro RC sets a while back so 1/72nd.

Hi All,

Had a brilliant time at Mayhem as always, seeing old friends and making some new. Wasn't quite as easy as it could have been, will try not bring the family and dog next year but they rather like Wicksteed park which makes it difficult!
Also won't come without any working boats again next year, feels a bit empty not able to sail a boat there watching all of those amazing models from others.

Here's a small selection of the pictures I took - I'm no photographer so excuse the terrible focus and awful composition.

well..... I am not sure how this has happened.. But for 26 years I had 1 boat.. then I come to Warwick show and bought 3 more, then this forum and the model boat weekend and now I have this year amassed 26 boats...  %%

LOL... lucky I have two boys so between the 3 of us.. we have a load of work to do, which we are looking forward to.. some boats will be sold as the number did go mental LOL.. but none will be sold with out us having fun with them first and painting and sorting ( learning ) from them.. Which is the enjoyable part.

Winter shed ready for next Wicksteen event is going to be busy !! :-) I am banned from buying any more  {-)  by my self!!
