Title: Anyone up for building this little beauty?

I saw this on my news feed on Facebook and thought it was an interesting vessel and thought I might share it with you guys.

It is a great looking submarine. I took some photos of it (a replica) when I was on holiday in Barcelona a couple of years back:

Models of it are rather rare.   Have a look at Photo 167 in the Gallery for a non-diving UK version by Alf Blake (I think):

Over on the  SubCommittee site you will find a lovely model by Pedro Gomez:

Maybe the carpentry involved puts most people off !?

For me the carpentry would be the most fun part of the build. It is a period piece that looks almost like a full size model from fiction.
If I was into submarines I would give it a try.
Those pictures are great, and the model pictures are very interesting, not sure about the compressed air steam engine though.

The boat shown in the original link is a recreation of Ictineo I. To the best of my knowledge that has not been modelled, all models I know of have been based on Ictineo II, although the lineage is fairly clear.

There is a book about Narcis Monturiol called 'Monturiol's Dream' which is well worth obtaining if you're interested in these craft and the designers life. It does include some drawings of his craft, although it would require good modelmaking abilities along with some interpretation by the modeller to recreate a working model I think.

A visit to the maritime museum in Barcelona would also probably be a good idea, as they have an extensive archive on his works.

Thank you for the explanation . That explains why the recreation looks like a shortened version.
