Hi,
I have just ordered a Speedline Severn.
I already have action electronics speed controllers and mixer and I was wondering if anyone can recommend what motors I need to suit this boat.

I've just started building the same kit. I got a pair of Overlander 4260/06 500kV 900W brushless motors on the recommendation of my local model boat shop. I've not tried them yet so no idea how good they'll be.

Apologies Bob, I didn't read your post properly. I think something like Graupner 700BBs would fit the bill. I've still got the Model Boats review of the kit at home so I'll have a look tonight and see what motors they used.

Just checked the magazine - they used Graupner 600BB Turbos

I have several of the Overlander 4260/06 500kV 900W brushless motors in my boats, they are controlled by Fusion Hawk 60A ESC's and I am really impressed with everything about the ease of use and set up. I, too have a 16th Speedline Severn and will be using this set up in it.

A real pleasure too meet you as well.
As I have already invested in all action electronic duel speed controllers ect I will stick to the 600's.
I will try the brushless on my next lifeboat which I hope too be a Speedline Tamar.

1800w sounds a tad overkill on a 1/16th scale, what does a Severn of that scale weigh? 500kv only results in 5,550rpm using a 3S lipo.
For comparison, a Tamar in 1/16 weighs 7.5kg and requires an RPM of about 8,000 for scale speed.

Sorry only just picked up your post. May seem like a strange answer to your question about runtime but I genuinely don't know. I normally take a couple of my boats down to the lake and use them alternatively and have never had an issue with batteries going flat before I am ready to pack up. I can be at the lake for anything up to two or three hours.

Go Brushless outrunner. Amazing performance, dont get hot and run for much longer.
On 11.1V an 800kVa is motor of 35mm dia should be good. Just a guess though, not tried them in a Severn. I will do soon though.

I have just had my 1/16th Severn on the water for the first time her power train is per shaft a Turnigy D3536-9 910 kv Outrunner motor, Seaking 100 amp speed controller with a 2222 55x55 5 blade prop shop prop and 8.4 NIMH battery.
She planes at scale speed on less than full throttle.

Looks like a perfect little motor for the job! About 370w, 25 amps... Should be working fairly efficiently at that. If you needed more speed you could always switch to a 3S LiPo, but as you say - no need! Speed controller is over-specced but I don't think there's much downside to doing so.
Would love to see some videos if you are able!
Meanwhile I went for motors for my build with double the power... Ever seen a lifeboat in orbit? %%

Lovely model and ample performance, I'm guessing that most of the time was not full throttle as a couple of times it briefly took off!
