-
no problemo then :-)) :-))
-
Crikey, you are one hull building machine at the moment! There is a pattern forming but I cannot put my finger on it :}

Ok then Brian, you've convinced me - I'm going to have to start another model. %)
Regards,
Ray.

Its the nice weather we are having lads, its been a while since i build anything but enjoying these hull builds. :-))
A couple of photos of what she will look like. (hopefully LOL)
-
Jeez you really like work don't you! That's gonna be two noteworthy builds I'll be following O0 O0
Davie Tait, while we are talking trawlers, have you bought the recently published hardback called British Steam Trawlers, isbn: 9781903599 23 5 Its an absolute treasure of information and plans - right down to plans of galley stoves and otter boards :-) Written by another Scotsman from Aberdeen way I think.
-
Started on the base today, managed to get keel frame in and a couple of side frames fitted to the base.
-
That's a whole lot of boat! looking forward to seeing more of the build.
Alex
-
small update from today most of the frames cut out and fitted, working on the bow section a little bit harder then the stern
-
The installation of the frames looks very neat and clean Brian - which type of glue have you used ?
Regards,
Ray.
-
Mitre fast bond Ray, I use it all the time great stuff 10 second fix. I get mine from screwfix best price :-))
-
Oke doke, thanks for the info Brian. Must admit I've never heard of that one before, I shall have to give it a whirl...
Regards,
Ray.
-
Not a lot done today but managed to get all the frames cut and fitted, I decided to use pine for the planks on this build instead of ply.
-
Another attractive build project there, and also a rapid build.
-
Got a start on the planking today
-
Beautiful work!
-
Beautiful work!
cheers
-
A bit more planking done, really enjoying this build.
-
...and we're enjoying watching it come to life Brian. O0

If I may butt in here, ;) Brian.....thanks for mentioning this book. Mine has arrived this morning, and as a beginner it will be a great help with my Boston Typhoon build.

Just a bit more planking done, starting to take shape.
-
Your planking is really nice and neat. I like the bottom, interesting to see a sloping bilge rather than a flat one.
-
%)...chip.....[modern designs!] she has some very unwomanly looking underlines <*<......but I am sure all true to design and your planking is going at a great rate of knots....what type of wood are you using?
Do you rip your own planks with your PROXXON table saw?
Derek

Hi Brian,
if it is of interest to you, here is how we do our hulls on the cnc. Pros and cons for PoF & cnc but as Ballastanksain says the sterns are becoming as complex as the bows.
If it interests you i have posted a very short clip of our prosess of 'cutting' the stern here -

Your doing well in a very short time!

I am using pine and hardwood Derek, to be honest I ripped an old door up for the hardwood LOL. The proxxon is a good saw but the amount of planks that are required it would be a bit much for it, I have a Dewalt bench saw that I used :-))
-
is this the plug for a GRP hull?
-
Beautiful work! I like the planking too.

i used 9mm ply for the frames and base, I have a dewalt table saw that i use for the straight cuts and a band saw for the shapes.
-
A small update, I am now at the part using the fillers and sanding then more filling and sanding I find this is the worst part of the build.
-
Sadly a part of the process we can rarely avoid :((
-
Thanks, looking superb.
-
Here is the latest update on the Grampian plug, i have fitted the belting bars and given her a coat of primer, i find this is the best way to show any small faults that need extra fillers and then more sanding. she is beginning to take shape.
-
Definitely going to be a tough looking ship when she's finished!
-
Beautiful! It looks huge!
-
First Hull from the mould, the belting bar was remove from the plug before the mould was made, it just did not look right.
