Top tip wrap some insulation tape or heatshrink around the red coupling as brushles have a nasty habit of exploding those couplings....been there had the tee shirt !
Dave

Pat Mathews has made some VERY nice 3D printed fittings that will work very well for you.

I produced the 1/24 Higgins and also the Elco as complete kits some years ago now . The hulls and masters sit in my store waiting a manufacture to take an interest in taking over these as I have my hands full with my on-line fittings shop and building for Clients. Also have an MTB

You are doing fine Graham! She looks lovely, very well finished, nice and smooth so far. Are you training the grand kids up for simple jobs like priming and the like?!

Graham

Hi Bofor assembled and painted.

20mm mounts made.
Oerlikon gun 3d printed but have replaced barrel with brass tube.
In my experience the 3d barrels start to droop.

Here is a link to the website for the Higgins PT-658 in Portland, Oregon, if it might be helpful.
Quite a sight to see on the local rivers here when they run it.
I've been on board a few times, please let me know if some onboard pictures would help.

Graham
-
Graham......
Those torpedo rack throwers look very detailed and crisp :-)). I am sure that Shapeways.com would have studied the original drawings & detail before production....[the Shapeways range of naval marine product is :o mind boggling]
Having said this, the geometry of the assembly appears as having greater throwing requirement than just one vertical handle & hence one person...but would be interested to understand the launching & arming procedure of the Torpedos
[My work in Above Water Weapons did not include Torpedos as whilst they may reside on the deck, were thankfully were classed as an Under Water Weapon]
Derek
-
Is this it Graham?...from about page 35 :((.................. Derek
Product Description
High Detailed 1/24 Scale TORPEDO LIGHT WEIGHT LAUNCHING RACK used with US Navy PT Boat in World War Two.
These racks were used to allow the Mk 13 Torpedo to simply roll out of the deck.
Designed to house my available Mk 13 Torpedo Model.
-
Hi Derek that's it Panzer vs Tanks by Holden 8702.
Graham
-
Nice 3D prints from Shapeways. Which material did you order and what priomer did you use? I still have problems processing the frosted detail and ultradetail parts.
-
This is really for Derek! Doesn't answer the specific question but may start the ball rolling.
http://archive.hnsa.org/doc/pt/know/index.htm
A very nice build.
-
The torpedoes were,nt thrown but rolled off the carrier cradles. A simple gravity system rolled the torpedoes into the sea. The operating lever once pulled released the cradles which dropped and lowered effectively dumping the released torpedo overboard.
-
For Derek i understand the captain electrically fired the torpedo from a button in the cockpit once the torpedo starts running the torpedo man pulls the release lever dropping the weapon over the side.
Construction of the vents, cowl is 3d print note segments which was a feature of Higgins boats.
-
One more.
-
Dr Schmidt the material is White Strong & Flexible Non Polished White Nylon Plastic.
The primer is from a auto spray can suitable for Acrylic and Enamel paint systems.
