Title: Tamar Motor help
Post by: ajb63 on August 13, 2017, 05:47:34 pm
Hi All

Just got around to start  building a Modelslipway 1/16 Tamar . This being my first model boat and RC I am at a loss to what motors to fit . I would prefer to install conventional brushed motors  ,but the ones recommended a few years ago 600 eco are no longer available Would be grateful  for any proven recommendations ,or any easy setup using brushless without cooling . Trying to keep it simple and not too expensive
Thanks in advance for any comments .

I have one of these fine boats.
2 Turnigy D3530/14 brushless with 50a esc's.

Did have 3542/5 but found them too 'course' and noisey.

the /14 makes it better for low speed contol.
batteries 2 of 3cell lipo 5000ma each.
Propellors are 5 blade brass, not cheap.
On full throttle half the hull raises above the water, but don't expect more than an hours running this fast!!!!!.

The Bow thruster is a must to have.

I have a 1/16 scale Model Slipway Tamar running on two Tornado Thumper 3548/05's, controlled by 50 amp Fusion Hawk speed controllers and powered by 11.1 volt Lipo's. Never had any problems with overheating. It's not the cheapest set up but I have tended to standardise on Tornado Thumper motors and Fusion Hawk ESC's in all my boats and have yet to have a problem.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
A lot of very knowledgable people on here.
Don't be afraid to ask anything, but before you do use the search function
As your answer might be there.

The Tamar is a lovely model.
For brushed motors
Dave at Action recommended
Action 755/775 12000rpm version
With action esc's, The component shop.

I agree with Flack
Overlander 3548/05 900kv Kings lynn model shop
On lipo or nimh
Hawk esc's 60amp Cornwall model boats.

Bow thruster, Jackie at Ms recommended
Raboesch 16/19
Available from model boat bits>Steve
Whilst your looking at it online, check out the couplings Steve has
Reasonable price and does the Job.

Protean Design/ Simon Higgins for props 40mm
5 blade contra rotating. But apparently on the model 4 bladed is the way to go.
