Title: Have you spotted a bargain price? please share
Post by: T33cno on October 11, 2017, 08:31:39 PM
I'll kick this off with a Proxxon 10" sander. Check out prices! this floors them at £195.95

Sorry, but not a fan of Proxxon tools......vastly overpriced and just not up to constant use........had 5 different tools  that I bought when I retired with a lump sum from teaching, and not one of them lasted more than 15 months.........just long enough to see out their warranty, and negate any sort of repair........just junk now lying in a corner..........

you can get far better tools and much more rugged for half, even sometimes a quarter of the price, and will outlast any proxxon ten times over.......been there, bought them and junked them in a corner, much to my disgust.

My thread is about bargains not product reviews. Those who favour proxxon will not agree with you but back to the point.
This is a regular price for the same product £258

I have just bought one at £202 delivered. I like my 125mm Proxxon but sometimes a bigger tool is an advantage  {-)

I have had my little circular saw (A4 footprint) for over 20 years still use it most days.  I did buy it in Germany where they were much cheaper. (in D Marks).

what happened to free speech.............

if someone feels that such a make is crap from personal use, then they are entitled to say to others who have no previous experience of a product that they might want to compare the product with cheaper and better ones...........

a bargain isn't a bargain if there are other better and cheaper products on the market that are equally if not better quality.

and if you wish to make a statement about bargains on mayhem, then you'll have to expect others to contradict your original point of view.

after all, there is such a thing as free speech and other opinions count as much as yours. >>:-( <*<

T33cno’s original post is valid, the quoted price does seem to be a bargain when comparing prices for Proxxon. Whatever your opinion of that brand may be doesn’t alter that fact. I know Neil speaks from experience, and his opinion should carry some weight when choosing a particular tool but, as the OP said, his post wasn’t meant to be a product review.

Perhaps other members have spotted some bargains and, if so, tell us about them.

Peter.

here's one I bought in Lidl a couple of weeks ago......came as a full kit........a tree pruner, but I've already used it on a couple of aspects on my lifeboat build......they sold out within a couple of days but usually both they and Aldi follow suit and get more in...£29.99p.....I had looked on ebay nd amazon about them before buying.......and the price ranged from £49.99 to £120.99 for exactly same model..............it quite easily cut through 4" branches of my willow tree.  litho recharge battery as well.

and a good strong tool as well especially for 30 quid.

I first took up modelling in mid January. I'm nearly though a whole bottle of Aliphatic.
Delivered price of £12.49 is I believe cheaper than on the shelf drive and collect price

Water filled blisters free of charge. Just hold a piece in place while the hot glue sets. It also comes with much pain - also free of charge. You won't find a better bargain as I can testify to it.

I wish I was there to buy the LED light for 6 quid. It would be really useful sat on the bench as a low level light, to use when finishing.

Hi Neil - you didn't happen to have a DS 460 scroll saw amongst those did you?

I'm planning to get one in the near future and you've put doubt in my mind now!

Having said that all that I've read about them is good.

Beware of the Record model. The plastic shield around the blade in the work plate warps and causes your work to snag. Blade selection is very important and there are a number of U tube articles about it.

My latest acquisitions from Reichelt in Germany. Quite a bit cheaper than UK and only £4.99 postage by DHL
The proxxon flexishaft £21.86 is much more flexible and very much thinner than dremmel kit

I needed a 1/4" x 32 TPI 90 degree valve for boiler water.....so looked  %) at maybe 6 Australian distributors..

1/4" x 40 TPI 90 degree steam stop valves in abundance for $65 AUD each + $15 AUD postage......= $80.00 AUD

Well that was a bl##dy useless exercise so looked  %) elsewhere

Jerry from Cleverdon have them in stock for [15 GB Pounds]...so the 1/4" x 32 TPI 90 degree steam stop valve + a 1/4" x 32 TPI vacuum relief valve [4 GB Pounds] are on their way from UK to me

Total price was 23.50 GB Pounds including air parcel post....... = $44.49 AUD  :-))

I just bought these Italian flush cutters. This pair cuts up to 12 AWG copper so I'm confident they will be very suitable for handrail or ladder brass up to 1.6mm without negative issues.
I think this is the cheapest delivered price £14.55

Hi T33, are these cutters that leave a nice cut edge and do you know if they are the same as used for cutting model railway track?  Sounds like a good price.  Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Roy
They are made for cutting wires flush on circuit boards so unlikely they will cope with rail lines and rated at 2mm diameter copper

Those Italian nippers may be OK for a pedicure set  {-), but of little use in model industry....

The German KNIPEX 68-200....do a mans job  <*< in wire tying & cutting steel tie wire for reinforcement/fixing......[prior to concreting]

@ about the same price  .....there is no question.......

My pair of some 20+ years have absolutely unmarked clenching jaw blades used a 'million' times for up to 1/8" diameter ....but only for brass stock.....

Yes I have pincers but they do not cut flush
Flush cutting means just that Derek

This is flush

Goodness T33cno....

The German KNIPEX 68-200 are 'metal Cutters', not 'carpenters Pincers'......there is a clear difference in the design and function of the tool

Horses for courses......& these are the best I have found.....

However after 50 years in this craft...have never seen a nipper set to cut as cleanly and as sharply or 'flush' as you show %)..........
