Title: Colourised old photos
Post by: dodes on October 12, 2017, 05:44:29 pm
I found this photo on the net the other day, I know that it has been coloured in in recent time. But I was impressed in the way it breathed new life into what would have been a run of the mill B/W print. Though I believe the people who do these prints now spend along time researching colours and applying them on photoshop, believe there is a new book out soon with colourised prints.

The colourising techniques certainly do bring those old photos to life.

Hi,
I was taught to colour photographs using a brush and thin layers of oil paints.
These days I use Photoshop.

On the Hull old days group on Facebook the admin is doing this quite regularly with b&w prints. From what I've seen she is using an app to process the photos. I'll ask her and see if I can get a reply if anyone here is interested.

mmmmmmmmm...having difficulty in understanding the direction of everything relative to the angle of the decking  :o ........

Could this be an example where the Director of the Movie Stage Set had no experience in how wooden decks were laid in ships?

Could this be the same Movie Stage Set location where the American Astronaut's were reported as being filmed all those years ago?

If we guessed at say 1900, I could see Commissioned Officers wearing  highly polished lace up boots ...but unsure of the Rig for Sailors

Derek..... :embarrassed:

Thanks TT....a Google search confirms the timber decking on the USS Oregon circa 1897  was of traditional fore & aft placement

From this, sections of the superstructure [deck housing] must be placed so as to show that the deck housing is such that can portray this angular >>:-(  image........

The last image.......close by the 13" gun mounting is a potential location as the diameter of the Turret is larger that the width of the deck housing  %)

Interesting deck plan. Clearly shows superstructure at 45 degrees to the centre line, in places, which would explain the angled appearance of the decking in the photo.
There are plans for this model here http://www.building-model-boats.com/uss-oregon.html (http://www.building-model-boats.com/uss-oregon.html)
