Title: Show us your tool!
Post by: tizdaz on December 14, 2017, 04:40:34 am
Hi guys,

I'm sure some of us have modified/created our own "special" tool that we reach for often to make a particular job easier with our boat building, if so share it here!

Be interesting to see what contraptions people have come up with!! :D

So to kick this off here's mine, Simple.. But Effective!

It's basically just a junior hacksaw blade with some tape on one end for grip/comfort, its use? To cut down lengths of planking as dremel/multitool circular blades are too thick & end up with strips too thin or wasted! With this method, very little waste & splits the planking clean, its not quick, but it does the job perfectly :)

Red (RS Tool) 'Nose picker' in the middle is one of my all time favorite tools.   Hook one end, jabber other.

I will make disposable jigs or tools for the task.

Drilling and spacing stanchion holes, port and starboard markings.

A certain individual I know who shall remain unnamed would make random tools which looked very handy but in actual fact were completely useless, whilst working in a garage. For example, he would cut a screwdriver in half, and weld it onto half a spanner, then kink the spanner over at a funny angle.

A week later and there would have been a few imitations made up by people who had no idea what it was for but were sure they would need it at some point.  :}

I have also seen a pneumatic pistol drill modified with the addition of a 5 foot barrel to create a very effective airgun which fired 8mm studs.
