Title: Brushless equivalent for 540 brushless
Post by: Flatspin7 on March 20, 2018, 08:40:51 am
I am building my first boat : the Swordsman from the Bluebird build class .
The original shows a 540 brushed motor : I would like to use a brushless equivalent
either inrunner or outrunner together with lipos as I have plenty of batteries from aero use.

Could anyone give me an indication of the possible replacements : I appreciate brushless may give more power but I only need enough to replicate the original .

Thanks in advance

Hi , another willing 'gluer' is always welcome . . .
Look at my reclaimed Swordsman build for a few tips . .

There's a link there also to a fantasy Huntress I've built , I'm newish to brushless so it's a learning curve , I'm leaning towards Outrunners they appear to have all the torque you need , in fact I've just changed an inrunner to outrunner on the Huntress(it's tiny) & it's far better , LIPO's are not the Demon battery folk are making them out if you follow charge/discharge rules correctly , good luck with your build .

Thanks for the swift response & useful info via the link . I have experience with brushless & lipoi in planes but never made a boat . I like your cooling fan on the shaft ! I see quite a few boat motors with water cooling so guess some form of additional cooling is required ?
Btw : do you have any idea what the power ( watts ) put out by an average 540 brushed is ?

Depending what make it is av is arounnd 47w.....personally i sould look at something around 900kva running on a 11.2 lipo trying a 40mm 3 bladed prop
