Title: Tifone an Italian Polizia Launch
Post by: GG on April 27, 2018, 02:26:37 pm
Needed something "light" before I could face a complex model and this was the result.  It's a simple hard chine type of hull built from balsa.  It could be finished off as a Customs, Pilot, Service or Lifeboat, what ever you fancy.  But, Mrs Guest loves Italy and we had a holiday in Venice part way through the construction, hence mine finished up in imaginary Italian Polizia colours.
The model is about 25 inches (63 cm) long which is a convenient size and weight for launching and recovery.  A "SLEC" Thrust Pack (combined motor mount, prop shaft, coupling and even the propeller was included) which ensured that motor and prop shafts were perfectly aligned.
Wanting a relaxing model to sail, a mild motor was used, MFA 540/1 type.  Using a six cell Nimh battery pack it still zips along at 5/6 ft/sec (1.5/2 m/s) which creates a realistic purposeful air.
The only downside is that when sailing it will not guarantee the correct sunny Italian weather...!
Plans in the post to the Editor of the Model Boats magazine.
