HOUSTON................we have a problem.....

halfway through my ARK build and the water keeps coming down in buckets full...........but the big problem now is that the garden sump pump that I installed in a pit in the garden to drain the water away..........is now shorting out after 5 years, and every time I turn it on from the garage, it trips the circuit board in the house shutting off everything down stairs, computers telly's, gas boiler....... the lot.........the wiring is 60 amp insulated but underground.............

do I dig it all out, get a new portable pump I can drop in through the inspection hatch..............or just set sail earlier than envisaged................answers on a postage stamp please........I can then return comments by postcard, stamps free, lol.

My suggestion is to disconnect the mains at the house and then disconnect the pump and meter its coils in an effort to trace the short.

If it's in the cable run then you have a problem.

Best of luck.

hi ken. cheers............funny thing is, it only happens now and then, but the lead to the pump is only a plug in, and it only happens when the plug has been left in after a pump out, and I have forgotten to unplug...............and then turn on the workshop lights and heaters after a day or two, still with the plug in...............if the plug is out of the socket before the lights are turned off or on, and then plugged in once the shop is lit up.........its fine, no problem............but only been happening since the incessant deluge we've had up here.

Sounds like a wiring plugging issue & an IP 23 {-) Rating instead of IP 65  Rating ......

the 6[5] signifies the following....
Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm nozzle) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. Test duration: 1 minute per square meter for at least 3 minutes
Water volume: 100 litres per minute
Pressure: 100 kPa at distance of 3 m

Hi all,
Just about to start building this.  I know it will not be so good as UK Mikes but I found his build log very useful for all the tips and it will keep me busy for a long time.

Best wishes to all from Belgium.

I want to complete HMS's Ready and M19 for Wicksteed.

I plan to start (Well, I have sort of begun it but not seriously yet:) HMS Cochrane, which was to be HMS Achilles, but I found better references for Cochrane.

And alongside the Cochrane, I want to complete HMS Rupert and maybe the Novgorod.

After that, it is a toss up between Helgoland (to support Pete Subman's Kaiserliche fleet in duffing up all these Royal Navy Capital ships that are breeding around here  :} ), HMS Prince Rupert or HMS Indomitable.

Hey Andjo, as long as you enjoy the build that is the main thing  :-))

I am working on a model of Malaysian marine Police Boat PX14 Kelang in 1/24 scale, which was built by Vosper Thorneycroft in Singapore in the late 1960s. The hull is a modified wooden hull built from the Dave Metcalf Sangsetia plan and the superstructure is scratchbuilt in plasticard.

Still building a 7 foot HMS Agincourt, which completely fills my little workshop.  Hoping to have it working for Wicksteed, but will not be finished until later in the year.
